  1. That would be going too far. Instead we should convince as many people as we can to carry and conceal small, unmarked gasoline containers wherever they go, so that they can protect us from crazy people with gasoline. 3. Interesting post thanks. I don't have an issue with the parade as such and don't think that a Gay Parade is necessarily a political event. However I do feel that Gay service personnel wearing their uniforms at such a parade is a political statement, especially as they were marching behind a float with 'Freedom to serve' on it. However, my thinking is no doubt influenced from my own cultural experience. As a British Solider we don't (or at least not in my day) have a 'liberty uniform' wearing uniform off base and off duty was a big no no, in fact it was banned as we were terrorist targets for Irish terrorists. So wearing a uniform to a off duty social event is an alien concept to me. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 5. The lines are already drawn, some to tight as it is. Fair enough. So, where do YOU think the line should be? I see no reason why citizens without a criminal history or previous mental health issues shouldn't be allowed to own semi automatic rifles firing either centre-fire or rim-fire ammo. I also don't think that .50 Cal rifles should be banned. As for handguns in the USA well, CC permits should be awarded to those who have proven themselves proficient. 6. Interestingly you are the first person either in SC or on media outlets who have called this man what he is a 'domestic terrorist'. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  7. I actually wonder if this loon was trying out a temporal illusion experiment to see if he could change the past. I know that sounds nuts but hey we're talking about a guy who dyed his barnet red and shot up a cinema. 8. No. Why? A shotgun at close range in a crowd will do massive damage to human targets. So why the decision on one type of firearm used in a massacre compared to another? Where would YOU draw the line? The lines are already drawn, some to tight as it is. 12. Howdy folks, I saw the following article online. Essentially it seems the defence department gave permisson for Gay service personnel to march in uniform in the Sand Diego Gay pride march and dozens did. Now I don't personally have a problem with gay service personnel and I don't believe their sexual status should be hidden in the services. However I do think that this is a step to far. Why do they have to wear their uniforms in a gay parade? The main problem I have with it is that its not expressing their sexuality but pushing a political agenda on gay rights. Service personnel should in my opinion be apolitical, you give up your rights to make political choices outside of elections and thats the way it should be in a professional Army/Navy/Air Force. What are your thoughts? (Edited to add: The first poll option should read they should not have been allowed to wear their uniforms in the Gay Parade) http://news.yahoo.com/troops-march-san-diego-gay-parade-uniform-204528956.html When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 13. I've never heard of a person with a knife attacking and wounding 70 some odd people and killing more than a dozen with a short bladed knife in about a minute. The guy was definitely nuts and determined, but if you choose to ignore the weapons he used were a calculated decision, you're fooling yourself. The weapons he picked and their ease of use and availability are a huge factor is what made the high body count possible. Why does it need to be in a minute? 19 guys with short bladed knives managed to kill 3000 people about 11 years ago. Took a couple hours, but I doubt anyone gives a shit about the time differential. Seems as silly as campaigning to make sure people aren't killed with assault weapons. 500,000 people were murdered in Rwanda in 100 days mainly using machetes. 14. The UN troops couldn't stop Srebrinica happening under their own noses. Also as the US holds a seat on the UN security council how the hell would that ever happen? 16. You keep talking about getting rid of what you describe as Assault Weapons, (Lets for the sake of argument just talk about the AR-15 he allegedly used). He also had a shotgun and a Glock, without doubt out of the three aforementioned weapons the shotgun would have done the most damage at close range in a packed theatre, are you suggesting that shotguns are banned? 17. There fixed it for you. Without the evil intent the rest is simply no more than you'll find in most people at a range on any given day, the vast overwhelming 99.9% majority of whom will never cause a problem like this in their lifetime. Bingo! But easier said than done. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  18. Agreed. Article 1, Section 8: The Congress shall have Power … To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions; Seems pretty clear. Yes it is. It applies to well-regulated militia. It doesn't apply to any schmuck who wants to arm himself to the hilt at the neighborhood Wal-Mart because he thinks that he may someday need to defend himself *against his own government*. I find it bizzare that the United State and its allies spend billions on tracking down people on the other side of the world who at some point went to a camp to learn how to shoot and use explosives yet are fine and dandy with such camps being run in their own country for the express purpose of training individuals to overthrow the US Government and kill its forces. F*@%ing bizarre indeed. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  19. Why would I do that? I was talking about your argument not you personally. Also I shoot at least once a week so am far from anti guns. One problem is the insidious nature of a government attacking its own people. Look at the Jews in Germany, it was bit by bit a gradual erosion of liberty and rights. Who dragged the Jews into the gas chambers? Nobody they walked in expecting a shower or detention and then it was to late. When people disappeared in Argentina they were alone against many captors who took them, people are asked to report to a police station for questioning and then never seen again in some countries. People awoken at gunpoint in the middle of the night by state officials. In these circumstances a gun would often be as much use as a piece of paper, in fact often much less useful. 20. I tend to agree with you. However, I do disagree on this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Slovik JerryBaumchen I hadn't heard of Eddie Slovik before your post although I would not condemn him for cowardice, unless one has been under a 24 hour artillery barrage its impossible to understand what that can do to a mans nerves. However as tragic as his death was I can understand why he was executed given precarious the situation at the time. Without doubt he was a victim of the war. 21. Sorry but those figures are nonsense, it implies that everyone who was killed would have lived if they had a gun, clearly this is patient nonsense as when a minority against ones own government a gun is pretty ineffective. 22. Here's what we DO know: 1. Holmes purchased all of the guns, ammo, and equipment he needed legally. 2. There's no government database that would have alerted law enforcement about what he might have been up to. 3. Nobody in law enforcement ever questioned him about why he needed to purchase 100 round magazines. 4. Holmes had no problem transporting his arsenal without government interference. You can thank the NRA for this situation. They so are feared by every politician in the U.S. that none of them will even think about proposing legislation that would at least help law enforcement to detect such purchases in the future. No, you can blame one crazy person. You can not legislate us into the world you want to live in. It will never happen. If it were possible to legislate something to the point that you couldn't put your hands on it there would be no drugs available in this country right now. I'm not a drug user but I could bet you $100 I could leave the house now and be back in an hour with at least 3 different types of illegal drugs. This has absolutely nothing to do with the drug war. I think it's a matter of time before the tide turns and assault weapons will be banned. We're not going to give up. And what would be the point of that? They did it here in the UK and its done nothing to cut 'gun crime' in fact its gone up not down since the ban. They banned them after the Hungerford massacre and it was a stupid uninformed move based on fear and easy votes from a uneducated and ill informed public. To do it again would be just the same but worse as now we know for certain it makes no difference to 'gun crime' and it didn't stop Dunblane from happening a few years later either. 25. I really find that position odd...I mean if you're being stabbed and the attacker intends to take your life...you really going to stand behind your statement? That would be self defence not the death penalty, apples and oranges. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy.
