That would be a better prep for post school life but they'd probably end up not taking them and wanting to role them over at the end of the year! When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca -

On second thoughts Bill, Kwanzaa should be in the list of approved American holidays as it fits all the criteria. Its not religious and it is an American holiday, invented in America and pretty much celebrated only within the borders of the USA. Thank you. The answer is: There is no such thing as an American Value or American National Identity. Usually people who say these kind of things are ignorant and/or racist. I'm pretty sure his "American Values" is different than my values. The author fails to realize that he is calling one type of culture in the U.S as superior. We have the same nonsense with people banging on about about British values (probably just the same as American values or any other countries) its usually the same type of people as well. Generally I have no problem with much of it, though it does raise some interesting questions. 'The only national identity this school will care about is American' Easy to say but how does one define American national identity? What is it? 'this school will be guided by America's values.' Again, what are American values? Who gets to decide what American values are and which ones get included and excluded. What makes those values 'American' and how are they distinct from those of other nations? 'we will end all self-esteem programs.... Seriously? You have self esteem programs in school in the USA? 'No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue. ' As the most obese nation on earth and one which is moving towards socialised healthcare it is in the best interests of the American people for their young to be educated on matters of health so I don't think removing health education from schools is a smart idea. Father beats man to death for sexually abusing his daughter...
Skyrad replied to wildcard451's topic in Speakers Corner
this one does sound justified - 'not guilty' based on this little article sound like a no brainer. I hope the evidence aligns. the more difficult scenario to come up with the correct answer: If he was able to stop the guy, but THEN, he continued to assault the scum instead of holding him for the cops. I'd have to say 'guilty' even though I'd approve of the results (I'm ashamed to say). Legally I see your point but in that case I'd feel happy about justice being blind. Because, as God is thier witness, nobody believs mice can fly. It would appear pretty cruel to just toss the mice out, even though they are being tossed to be eaten. I'm curious if the dose of acetaminephen are harmful to the mice. I can't imagine a dose that would affect the snake wouldn't have some pretty serious effects on the mouse. And the idea of a snake eating a dead mouse (as mentioned in the story) is preposterous. Snakes won't eat anything that wasn't alive when they grabbed it. If a human ODs on Paracetamol it takes a few days to die of multisystemic failure. (A bloody horrible and very painful way to go) it doesn't take much to kill a human and so I guess its the same for a mouse, a relatively small dose and the mouse will have a few days before death by which time it will have been snaffled by hungry snakes. BTW you are incorrect about snakes not taking dead feed, they do and have no problem with it. Its about time that the USA realised that its in danger of destroying all together its relationship with Pakistan which is already in a fractious state following insult after insult to the sovereignty of the nation. Todays comments don't help the matter and smack of the school ground bully. http://news.yahoo.com/panetta-patience-pakistan-reaching-limits-085857670.html I remember when Pakistanis would fly the stars and stripes next to the Pakistan flag even in the shanties. People loved the USA and that wasn't so long ago. Since then threats of 'bombing them back to the stone age' by Bush and constant drone strikes with attendant civilian casualties and the bombing of Pakistani troops within Pakistan's borders and conducting a military attack deep in to Pakistan. The USA must face the fact that the puppet government in Kabul will collapse within a short period after the withdrawal. That being the case they are already talking to the Taliban (while decrying Pakistan for not destroying them) Jalaluddin Haqqani is likely to play a key role once the current incumbent has run or been removed as some in the state department and CIA know all to well. If the USA wants to remain a player in the region it has to keep Pakistan on side or risk loosing influence.
