So, Folks Across the Pond, Prince Harry to Deploy...
Skyrad replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Tea time is a tradition. Royalty is silly. Sorry, that's just my opinion. If you want to honor someone for their blood line, have at it. No more silly than making common actors into Royalty. Or treating some slapper who banged an old man till he croaked then pretended to be Marilyn Monroe until she OD'ed like a goddess. Have they finished fighting over her corpse over there yet? At least actors did something for their noteriety other than being born. Royality is silly and outdated. Accept it and move on. Or kiss my "royal" ass. Having a Royal family is the best soap opera of all. I wouldn't want to be one at all, their lives are not their own. Good on him. Sandhurst doesn't pass you just because your Mummy's the Queen. From what I hear hes shaping up to be a good officer. He wants to be with his men instead of sitting in a barracks somewhere safe in the UK or some cushy posting, top man. We've had thirty eight years of doing this shit here in Northern Ireland. Also we don't have the same level of issue with the Sunni insurgency (although there have been other players) and we also have a government that desperatly wants to be re-elected and a Prime Minister that is about to exit stage left who doesn't want to be remembered as the guy that led us into a 'war without end' That said, from what I can tell the US forces in Bagdad have been doing some good work and with the change of tactics from the FOB mentality to the take control of policing out on the streets with area bases I think a real positive effect may result, although it will take years and dialouge to effect a lasting change. Most likely we'll be redeploying them to Afghanistan to fight the on coming Taliban spring offensive which is about to kick off. People have taken their eyes off Afghanistan which is a even bigger threat to the UK than the Iraqi insurgents. Heroin is wrecking havoc in the UK not just the inner cities. The Taliban have regrouped and are a serious threat to the British (and other) forces over there. We've seen the heaviest fighting since the Korean war there. If you shoot shoot to kill or there is little point in opening fire. Also once a bullet enters the body it is unpredictable in the course it will take, a shot in the shoulder could kill just as a shot to the chest may not. In fact a shot through the chest into lung is a lot more surviveable then a shot in the abdomen. I've seen a man shot in the head just behind the ear walk out of hospital an hour after arrival as the bllet tracked around the outside of his skull and stopped just behind his other ear like a giant zit just under the skin. He went out and shot the guys who shot him just a couple of hours later, they weren't so lucky. This is a odd question, its also a redundant one as no one really knows until they are in that situation, regardless of what they think they would do before hand (includng those that have been trained for such a situation) It also depends on the circumstances. In the late '80s two soldiers in Northern Ireland found themselves in a bad spot when they drove around a corner into a republican funeral, their way was blocked by republican driven Taxis and a mob surrounded the car. The two soldiers were both armed but did not open fire and were dragged from the car and beaten to within a inch of their lives they had the clothes torn from their bodies then they were executed by shooting in the street while a army scout helicopter filmed the whole thing unable to help. I was in the forces at the time and it made a impression on me, I remember walking into the NAFFI and it was silent and everyone was very subdued. I watched the news footage on the TV in there and they kept replaying it, I remeber thinking that in the same situation I would have opened fire and tried to escape, but they were trained soldiers as well. If they'd been asked the same question what would they have answered before hand? A few years later I found myself in a situtaion in Africa when it came to it I found myself ready to open fire, thankfully at the last moment I didn't have to but I know that I could have and was half a squeeze away from doing so when the threat was removed. http://loyalulster.150m.com/Corporals.html When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. How can Britain be "tops" when Ireland is worse? Is Ireland no longer in Europe? Seems like another ill conceived JR diatribe against the UK. Not in the north its not. Up there everyone loves each other now and swaps spit whilst holding hands on a regular basis

Source: Sun Times So, gun owners should have to pay for the county's fiscal mismanagement, and shooting sports are now a "sin", like drinking or smoking, that does harm to people and society... I think those shooters will just go outside the county to purchase their ammo. Sounds like a sure way to harm the states gun shops and other ammo suppliers.
