that's just something ugly people tell children I suppose I'm the exception to the rule then. So you dont tell your childrten then I dont think anyone on these boards who actually is an active skydiver would fit the profile of the OP description of Fat. I think he is referring to Morbidly obese people, the sort that need assistance to stand up and have not seen their toes in years. I don't hate fat people if I'm being honest I feel sorry for them and even more so for their families and friends. I have worked for several years with the clinically obease in hospitals pre and post stomach stapling and banding operations. With people who have osteoarthritis or pain in their back, hips, knees, feet. The amount of times I have heard "I don't know why it hurts?' when they are in effect walking around with my weight as well as theirs. I had one patient who fractured her pelvis because a taxi she was in stopped suddenly and she slipped off the seat on to her knees. Unlike in the US we the tax payer have to pay for these peoples treatment and they are crippling the health system. The woman in the taxi for example screwed the taxi drivers income as she had to be cut out of the taxi as she was so big (Actually she was an American its still not that usual for Brits to be that big although many are trying hard to catch up) she had no medical cause for her obeaseity. But while the firemen were cutting her out of the taxi they were not available to attend fires or other emergencies. The road was closed in Wimbledon causing massive traffic problems for hundreds if not thousands of people. A surgical team had to work for several hours to fix her, the anesthetic risk to her life was huge, she was lucky to survive it. She remained in the hospital for several months as she couldn't mobalise as quickly as a normal size person. The drain on resources was huge. She was actually a nice person, I didn't hate her I felt sorry for her but hers was purely a plight of her own making. As for taking the obease for runs I'll leave that for Vortexring and his E&E course. Its not possible to say that unless you have something to compare it with. by that I mean unrestricted access to firearms which we have not had in the UK in my life time. You don't need to have "unrestricted" gun access to compare it with. You already have the previous less restrictive laws, when gun crime was lower. And that compares with the far more restrictive laws now, with higher gun crime. That's a valid comparison. And since the effect is opposite of what it was supposed to do, it proves that the gun control laws are ineffective. If everything else had remained the same then maybe your model would apply however it doesn't because it does not take into account other variables that have changed in the time that has passed since the laws were passed. The UK of today is very differnt in demographics from the UK of the time when the laws were passed. You are only taking into account one variable. So although I happen to agree that the ban on hand guns has made very little if any difference to crimes committed with a firearm I would argue that your methodology is flawed. I guess that must be to do with restaurants and cafe's and food safety standards enforcement officers. I'm guessing that Scoop has better things to do than root around in peoples fridges Now this one isn't funny, they're not actually Police but interfering busy bodies from the council who go around making sure that the council regulations reagarding bins are not infringed eg: the lid closes, no garden waste all that shite. Actually thinking about them and maybe that really is an arguement to arm everyone. Its not possible to say that unless you have something to compare it with. by that I mean unrestricted access to firearms which we have not had in the UK in my life time. UK culture is violent and given unrestricted access to firearms I believe that it would be carnage on a scale worse than we see right now. Having said that I do agree that the gun ban has not had any noticeable effect on crime figures, because the only people it ever really effected were the law abiding firearm owners. But we never had the situtation of easy access to firearms that you have in the US. If we had and people had grown up with an understanding of firearms as tools rather than fashion accessories then maybe un restricted access wouldn't be such a bad idea. What are you describing as fat though? I'm 6"4 and 17 stones so am a big guy and could do with loosing some weight myself (which I'm in the process of, mainly for health reasons) there are degrees of being overweight. Unfortunatly I could not vote. Your options were to polarised. I woud have oted in the current climate in London that the Police should have the right to search anyone who gives them reasonable cause to do so but house searches should be restricted. In effect i'd vote for the current legal sitation in the UK. As well you know John, the UK isn't the US and the same application of law can not be applied to both due to cultral differnces. Just as if the UK were to have the right to unrestricted firearms their would be even greater bloody shed than their is already (although knife crime would most likely fall) When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. An interesting thread, I missed that one. I would have been very unhappy in your place as as far as I see it its a safety issue if someone is bloking your exit from your seat in the event of an emergency. I don't think that the woman should be allowed to sit on the aisle for safety reasons. If I were the young guy I would not have been happy to have her put the arm rest up and overflow on me. uhUH! Not happy at all. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Is it? I didn't see any dedicated Escape and Evasion sessions whilst living off the land, neither was anyone in the bag.

I didn't really choose that word very well. What I meant was on a sliding scale of at one end attraction indiffence in the middle and at the other end the opposite of attraction ...repulsion. I suppose it would be fairer to say that watching obease people eat chips/crisps irritates me more than repulses me, but having said that I supppose that if I'm being honest it also depends on just how big someone is, I saw a program on the half ton clinic somewhere in the USA recently and yes, those people actually put me off my food, it was very unpleasent. Firstly I agree that not everyone who is obease is that way due to a lack of dietary control and lack of exercise, I know someone in that group who has hypothyroidism. However, as I mentioned previously those people are in the minority. Lets look at the information on the link you posted in regards to genetic factors. A predisposition does not mean that one will go on to develop a condition its simply means that you are more likely to. So what would make that more likely to happen? See the next part.. So to recap, the factors that would most likely lead to insulin resistance and metabolic sysndrome in those with a predisposition are 'excess body fat and inactivity'. So in other words the people refered to in this situation are most likely the way they are due to having allowed excess body fat to develop and a lack of exercise which in turn lead to insulin resistance syndrom. It was not the other way around. The article that you linked to then goes on to say... There are to many people willing to blame reasons beyond their control for being obease which is hardly supprising as the main cause for most of them being that way is a lack of personal responsibility in the first place. Is that judgemental? Yes. But it also happens to be broadly based on the facts. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Morbidly obease is what I'm talking about not someone who is a size 18 dress or carrying a few pounds over. I went to see WALL_E and the sight of all the morbidly obease cartoon people along with the other thread about obease people complaining about the film prompted me to make the original (not so well worded) post. Not one of my best posts. I think the term Repulsive is a bit to strong in hind sight. i also have a family history of diabetes. Both of my sisters are overweight one of them is obease, I have to work out hard to keep fit. Maybe watching bits fall off my aunt as she slowly died from vascular disease due to badly managed diabetes didn't help. I also love my sisters and am not replused by them. Tonight Fi and I went dancing and there was several obease people there dancing and i didn't have an issue with them either, maybe its the excuses and whinging while eatting junk that annoys me so much. Right, now imagine that you live in a country which has a public health system which you pay in to. We all have to pay for stomach stapling, hip and knee replacements, foot operations, Cardiac operations, vascular operations and diabetes medication for other people who don't have the self discipline to eat well and exercise. Thats simply wrong. Why should we who are socially responsible pay for those who are not? Being obease is socially and personally irresponsible. (I would say that in the case in the small minority of obease poeple who have a genuine medical reason such as Hypothyroidism I have no problem with paying for their treatment, however these people really are in a small minority for the obease population) When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy.
