So, the story in a pot... Widespead instiutional abuse of children by the Catholic Church in Ireland, the now Catholic Primate (Head of the Catholic Church in Ireland) Cardinal Brady was involved in investigating at least one serial paedophile Priest in 1975 by the name of Fr Smyth, two children were questioned by Brady who then made the two children sign an Oath not to discuss the matter with anyone other than an 'approved' priest. The paedophile was then moved to another area, he later moved to the USA where he went on to rape and molest at least another 7 children. There have been widespread calls for the Cardinal to resign but he refuses to go saying that he was not obligated to report the paedophile Father Smyth to the Gardai (Police) and that he should not be judged by the standards of today for what happened in 1975. Personally I think he should go. What do you think? Do you support his stance? If so why? http://www.independent.ie/national-news/gardai-knew-of-brady--link-to-smyth-for-years-2100100.html I'd say he had at the very least a moral obligation if not a legal one... here is the counter argument with which I disagree. http://www.independent.ie/opinion/analysis/maurice-dooley-bishops-were-not-obliged-to-tell-gardai-of-abuse-2099999.html When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. I agree with the sentiment but not with the mothod. The Pakistani forces are hurting the Taliban & their friends; they need support in the form of intteligence and training but what Pakistan does not need is an invasion. Down that road lays disaster. I remember during the 1980's Pakistan was very pro USA, even in the slums you would see American flags flying along side Pakistani ones. After the US sold Pakistan the F16's there was real support for the US. That hasn't entirely gone away but is burried, what needs to be done is reinforce the fact that America is a benevolent nation and that the extremists are the enemy. With the constant bombings against civillian targets in Pakistan that isn't to unlikely a goal to achieve. Invade Pakistan though and you would confirm the enemy's claims that this is a war against Islam and Muslims globally. I'm going to respond to your post before I read what others have said. I agree with a lot of what Mr.Paul said in the clip you posted. However, I do not agree with everything he said or all of his conclusions. War is situational and situations change; I was against the war in Afghanistan in fact it was one of the only times in my life that I went on a march against anything. But times change. We are now in a war in Afghanistan, will the USA and its allies be there in ten years? Yes most likely if they have the courage and backbone to finish what they started. It would be very foolish to think that when you go to war with an enemy who think in terms of eternity that you can win a war in a decade. Just as foolish would be to think that one can win a ideological war with hardware alone. ' We kill Taliban and we just get more Taliban' yes of course, what does he expect? But the war against the Taliban is not just against the Taliban, its against regional hard men, warloards, drug dealers and international Jihadists. The war in Afghanistan has to be seen in the larger context of the war against twisted people who use Islam as a front to wage a war of terror on innocents. This war is fought not only in Afghanistan but here on the internet, and in countries all around the world. But pull out of Afghanistan and the US will be defeated in the eyes of every Jihadist and sympathisers around the world the US will be humbled and defeated viewed as Russia was when it was chased out of Afghanistan by the Mujahadeen, it will be seen as Allah's judgement against the US.it will fire them up in a way not seen since 9/11 and then the war will be brought back to the US and throughout European cities, a war of terrorism. In the eyes of the world (outside the US) the USA suffered a humilliating defeat in Vietnam, this would be worse because the VC didn't put on vests and travel to continue the war in the US. Another common sense solution from Nightingale ... Nightingale for prez in 2012. This is nuts. The entire prom will be canceled because of this? WTF? I know a male in a prom dress is controversial, but a female in a tux? Come on get a grip. I used to date a really attractive girl (yeah I know hard to believe someone as ugly as me could date an attractive woman ... haha) and she never wore skirts or dresses. Plus she was religious on top of all this. It's not like she was stuck in the 1950s like members of this school district obviously are. Someone please go close the doors to the asylum. All the nuts are escaping (including me). This sounds like a collective punishment designed to invoke a individual punishment by the collective. Something like making a entire squad of men do press ups in the mud while the one guy who was talking in the ranks gets to stand by and watch, followed by running the squad fr a few miles because of one guy. Make the collective punishment because of one person and watch the mob tun on them. I'm suprised that the school can legally get away with this kind of discrimination. A country of 260 Million, just from these forums you know damn well that not all Americans support or condone torture and many are against it. So why lump all 260 Million in together? It makes you sound like Bush when he bangs on about the 'good guys verses the bad guys' making balck and white statements that are over simplistic. Indeed there is a certain irony in the fact that you've just countered an arguement about 'the worst kind of generalisation' with the worst kind of generalisation. Our methods may differ but we#re on the same side. Don't forget that; I don't agree with waterboarding but lets not forget that the enemy is relentless and determined. In any war mistakes are made. Hi John, yes I believe that I can. This weekend I ran 15 miles on Saturday and 30 miles on Sunday. I'm in heavy training and have been for the last year in preparation. Four weeks ago i did two back to back UltraMarathons and ran a total of 95 miles in two days. Its going to be tough; I have no doubt about that but yes I believe that I can do 78 miles in under 24 hours.. How was your vacation? Unfortunatly John its a sign of the times we live in. We had some very bad floods here in Ireland not so long ago, many people lost everything, the damage was estimated to be 100 million, the government gave 10 million in flood relief to cover everything. Its not that they don't care, they simply don't have the money to build the hospice. So until they do one day have the money, it is left for people who care to find the money because the need can't wait. Hi everyone, Every year 1400 children in Ireland are diagnosed with life threatening diseases. Of these over 354 a year die. In 11 weeks from now I am running across the Namib desert to raise money to build Irelands first and only childrens hospice. I will be carrying all my kit on my back and will cover 78 miles in under 24 hours. The temp will be up to 46 degrees. Please sponsor me and help these children die with dignity and give them the support that they and their family need. Thanks, Skyrad http://www.mycharity.ie/events/jamile http://www.sunshinehome.ie/hospice.html **This post has been approved by Sangiro** When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Its a dilema eh? Israel has to defend itself, to do that it needs to target and kill its enemies. Yet is it better to send 27 people to kill one man in a hotel room or slam a couple of hellcat missiles into a appartment block and kill 200 people just to get to one man? On the other hand does Israel really want to be a nation that is identified by its use of death squads? The truth is that there is no easy answer to these questions. Should Caesarea/Kidon units be used? In the film Munich the question is asked 'What is the point of getting rid of these enemy, each one has been replaced by someone just as bad if not worse' The answer 'Why then should I cut my nails? They'll only grow back.' The truth of the matter is that Israel will only find security through dialouge, but if her enemy is not prepared to talk then they have little option but to cut their nails. On another note, I'm supprised that if Mossad did this, why did they use so many agents? 27 at last count, in the past allegedly a Kidon team would be around 15 people tops. Also why use passports that are so inflamatory and identies that are directly taken from Jews in Israel? There is sending a message and then there is taking the piss. Did Mossad do this or was it someone else? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
