I liked that movie a lot. Great storyline, great acting on Hanks's and DiCaprio's parts. Time well spent. It often seems that when I see a movie with no expectations (I had never heard of this movie before going in to see it) I always enjoy it more. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Well, to me no matter how easy something seemed, there will always be lingo or certain ideas that even a beginner (even a tandem student) would know. To return to my Subway example, I do not think that working at Subway would be terrible difficult. That does not mean that I would be able to jump into working there without any training. I'd still need to be introduced to the Subway protocol before I could work there. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Well, I guess it's a good thing they're lying about skydiving and not actually doing it then, because these are the same people who would take a FJC, make an AFFI, completely ignore the training and predetermined dive flow, and then blame and sue the DZO, AFF Instructors, Rig Manufacturer, car dealer who sold them the car that they drove to the dropzone, and the company that makes the breakfast cereal they ate in the morning when they get hurt or killed (after coming back from the dead to annoy the rest of us, of course) Not that I'm bitter A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Another possibility would be to increase mail usage as dz.com status goes up. Ex. Newbie - 16/7 Enthusiast - 30/7 Old Hand - 50/7 etc. or something of that nature. This would allow users who are less likely to abuse the system more access, while weeding out the spammers who are just signing up to use the e-mail feature for spam (and when you bust one and cancel their account, reregistering brings them right back to Newbie status and limited e-mails) A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

This is all well and good (not admirable, but understandable) when you can actually pull the appearance thing off. But why would anybody who doesn't know anything about a subject feel that they would be capable of speaking about it with someone who does? How could they not expect to get busted? I wonder what possesses people to make up something that they have no idea about to someone who actually does. I mean, what if the situation were reversed and you told the girl, "Yeah, I used to work at Subway ... none around here though. I was so good they made me manager after 3 days of working. The only problem I used to have was with ordering the bread, but I used the backup distributor and it was fine." How on earth do these people think they'll get away with it???? This isn't a rhetorical question, btw. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

But the whole Matrix is pretty clever programming when you get down to it...and consider Agent Smith who has his own desires and agenda. It seems to me that if a machine were to infiltrate the human world, the best way to do it without raising suspicion is to make the machine unaware of its own machine nature. We have also seen Agent Smith infiltrate the human world, so it can be done within the rules of the movies. Being just another subroutine would explain Keanu's acting, but it would also explain why his skills are so far beyond those of the other humans. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Is it possible that Neo himself is actually a program? A bit of code which, in the words of the Oracle, has a purpose and is fulfilling it? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Why are so convinced that he will screw up? Level 1 AFF (not counting ground school - which you don't need to pay for more than once anyway) is not necessarily more expensive than a tandem, and even if it is, you can count that jump toward your A license progression anyway, which you couldn't with a tandem. Feel too scared to continue
FliegendeWolf replied to JenBubbles's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi JenBubbles, When I did my AFF 3 dive I was so scared in the plane that when we reached jump run I almost passed out. I did end up jumping, but after the jumpmasters let go, I glanced at my altimeter and read it backwards, thinking the needle should go clockwise. When I saw the needle at what I thought was 3000' (really 9000') I completely panicked, wondering why my instructors were allowing me to fall through my pull altitude, and pulled the ripcord. Once in the saddle, I realized my mistake - but I was shaken up - and at 8K, the world looks really tiny. I was scared the whole canopy ride down. For several weeks I thought I'd never jump again. I eventually did, and the fear got a bit better, but I remember my ride to altitude for my AFF 7 and was inches to telling my instructor that I wanted to ride down. I only now have 15 jumps, and still get nervous every time I jump, but it is manageable - I am beginning to have faith in my abilities and my gear out there. It is totally normal to be scared to jump - it's a scary thing! And if you feel that it is not worth the fear, I would never try to convince you to do it. But if you keep getting up there, it gets easier and easier. As others have said, the most important thing is to do what's right for you. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All -
5:3:3 5 gallons of pale ale homebrew brought to the dropzone in a Cornelius keg. To answer the question raised here earlier, my beer was very well received, so I plan on doing it again. The jump pilot even told me that if I name the next batch after him, he'd give me extra altitude. I mean, I'd show him my boobies but I'm shy. 3 fantastic jumps - one quasi AFF3 to get the rust off (I flubbed my recurrency earlier this month), one awesome recurrency dive, and a hop and pop. Only 5 jumps to go till my A!! First -time sleeping under a 182 parked in a hangar -time as the recipient of a "Him Him Fuck Him" chant (for the homebrew) -time riding down. By the time we got to altitude the clouds were as thick as the top of a cream pie. No way I could jump. But the ride down was intense - almost as exciting as the freefall!! By the way, this happens every time I jump. Is it normal for openings to burst blood vessels in your arms? I have nasty red splotches on my biceps and am hoping that that's normal, or at the very least not unhealthy. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Very cool. I was surprised to see someone post music theory stuff here! Yes, I am a certified theory geek - with a degree to prove it. So when your profile says "therapist," that means music therapist? Do you meet with clients for hourly sessions or does it work some other way? Do you suggest certain pieces for certain people? How does that work? Do you ever recommend Pierrot Lunaire? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

I strongly recommend everyone here who has not seen Birth of a Nation do so. IMDB A 1915 silent film subtitled The Klansmen, Birth of a Nation recounts the evil deeds of southern blacks and the heroism of the KKK who bravely seek them out and hang them. There is a great scene where Abraham Lincoln is framed as Jesus. This has been voted one of the 100 best american films and to this day is hallmarked for its technical breakthroughs. It is also disturbingly racist - a point that some try to mitigate by claiming its historical authenticity. Just read through the user reviews on the IMDB linked above. Let us not forget that Wilson was a segregationist. After viewing D.W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation, Wilson was reported to have commented, "It's beautiful because it's so true." That's not the kind of thing I like to hear. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

I agree about the rave scene - I didn't like it at all. Not that I have a problem with sweaty, writhing bodies and gratuitous boobie shots, but I like for there to be some reason for it, which there didn't seem to be. I agree with Push, by the way, I think that Trinity and Neo conceived in that scene - would be the only reason to spend so much time on it. Did anybody notice that the Matrix trilogy seems to be working sort of like the first Star Wars trilogy? First movie ends with a victorious battle and celebration; second movie ends on a real downer as the main character learns something really bad from the head enemy?
