Wow, I love the tiki tat! Nice design, and very vibrant colors!
-
Thanks. I had found another forum, but I never got past all the articles on the front page about injuries and fatalities. (I couldn't really find the "forum" part of it.) The site that you posted looks much better.

Where is that? If I like it, I'll probably go for the advanced stuff, but I'm not even sure if I'll like it yet (though I think I will!). And the night stuff sounds really cool...
-
Thanks for sharing the story, Bill. Glad to hear your friend is ok! And thanks for the encouragement too.
-
Yikes, well I guess I'll pay close attention to stretching my legs! Where are you doing your open water dives? I'm doing mine in June too, but I'm not sure where yet (probably somewhere around San Diego).
-
Oh, great. Well I'm totally screwed then.
-
Thanks; that's good to know too.
-
Thanks, Gary. I've been stretching regularly anyway, but that's good to know. And Loonix: Does freediving involve holding your breath??? Don't think I'd be very good at that...

I guess I'm more familiar with the risks in skydiving (such as broken bones), but stuff like "decompression sickness" and "arterial gas embolism" sound scarier to me for some reason, probably because I'm not familiar with them... So I'm sure I'll be more comfortable when I learn more. I only just started learning, and I started by reading the medical form; maybe I should read the fun stuff first. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced that type of problem and how bad it was...
-
This is one of the things I'm concerned about. I almost always have a bit of a stuffy nose, but not usually bad enough to take anything for it. I guess I'll find out if it's bad enough to be a problem. Oh, and what happens if you hold your breath? (I'm sure they'll go over that in class, but I'll ask here anyway.)

At home, sitting at my desk with the windows open, listening to the birds and the windchimes.

I'm sitting here reading the medical form that I need to have signed for the scuba course I'm taking next week, and reading about all the stuff that can go wrong is sort of freaking me out. Not sure why I'm more concerned about this than I was about getting into skydiving (perhaps because I don't understand the complications that can occur in scuba as much), but I'm curious if any of you have ever had any major problems while scuba diving? (I'm asking on here because I know a lot of you are into scuba as well as skydiving. And of course I'm going to discuss this with my doctor and my instructor.)

I don't know... I'd probably just pull the hair out, remind myself that all of the food I eat likely contains other people's dead skin (that I can't see), and keep eating.

Are you suggesting that skymama should be personally sent to your house every time you are misbehaving on here, to whip your ass??? Hmm, something tells me that would dramatically increase the number of PA's on here.
-
Umm, today's parents are the product of parents who were not afraid to give an "asswhupping," so perhaps the asswhupping didn't do much good???
-
That would explain a lot.

A Bengal kitten would probably get along great with your dog (well, unless you have an antisocial dog ;). Their personalities are so much different from other cats, and a good cattery will make sure they are well-socialized with people and other animals.
-
Looks like a Bengal cat. I've been looking into breeding Bengals recently (I used to have one), but I don't know if I'll end up doing it or not. I bought mine from the Tejas Cattery in Austin. And thanks to caspar, I have just spent the past 45 minutes looking at pictures of Portofino.
-
Cool... That definitely looks like a place that I'd like to visit.
-
Wow, where was that picture taken?
-
I'm not sure I understand this answer: What's ok?
-
Wow, you look a lot like Hard Gay. Here's me (on the left) from two nights ago. Not a great pic, but it's the only one from the bunch that I care to post on a public forum.

No, go ahead and make the law; it seems like a good idea. I'm just saying that I don't think it will prevent another mass shooting, and it likely won't do much to keep mentally ill people from getting guns. So it's probably not the right solution. But unfortunately I don't have a better solution to offer.
-
Lapierre nonetheless says the group is now working with longtime ally Rep. John Dingell, Democrat of Michigan, on a bill to ensure that mental-health records are entered into a FBI database that is used for background checks of gun buyers. From the same article. And I agree that if someone is mentally ill to the point that a judge has declared them unsafe, then that sort of record should be available for background checks. But it looks like the emotional response to the VA Tech incident is going to lead to mental health records being shared that have no business being shared. As usual, we get scared and start throwing our rights out the window, thinking that is somehow going to make us safer.
-
Come to think of it, why not? As I pointed out right after that sentence, there probably wouldn't be much point to it. Just go to a doctor who has never seen you before, lie about your mental health history, and you're good to go (well, unless you're acting like a nutcase while trying to get this doc's signature). That would only work if mental health records were more accessible, but then we're back to invading people's privacy and discouraging people from seeking mental health treatment.
