Are you suggesting that everyone who wants to buy a gun should get a doctor's signature first? And is the 3rd Class Medical any different than a normal physical that you'd get from a doctor? I ask because all a person has to do for that is to go to someone other than their normal doctor, and no mental health information will have to be reported on there since that information is typically not shared (in which case there wouldn't be much point since the person could lie about their mental health history). Also, what about the person who is diagnosed with a mental illness after they own a gun? Should the doctor who made the diagnosis have to search a database to see if their patient owns a gun, and then have someone confiscate it? I don't know... I agree that (dangerous) mentally ill people should not have guns, but I don't see any easy solution to that without invading the privacy of a lot of others (and discouraging people from voluntarily seeking mental health treatment).
-
How would you define "known mentally unstable people"? Anyone who has ever been diagnosed with a mental disorder (depression, anxiety, drug abuse, etc.)? Or only those who have been declared by a judge to be a potential harm to themselves or others? If it's the latter, I'd probably agree, but I don't think it's a good idea to have ALL mental health records available for background checks.

Health kick. Oh. Well, don't hate yourself for falling off last night... Just jump back on the wagon today.
-
What were you doing on the wagon in the first place? And a week with my doppleganger? I guess that depends on which week of the month we're talking about.
-
But in Willie's case, it probably wasn't hard to convince the judge that 1 1/2 pounds was for personal consumption and not intended to distribute.
-
I'm guessing that this incident is going to lead to mental health records being a lot less private, which will probably do little to prevent similar incidents from happening, but will do a lot to discourage people from seeking any kind of psychiatric treatment. I say ban all guns and give the death sentence to anyone caught with one. That will prevent mass shootings... Hmm, or maybe not.

Since people keep asking me... http://www.myspace.com/shotgunkeely

Oh well... Makes no difference to me either way. Until yesterday, I didn't even know that Rosie was on that show. But thanks to dropzone.com, I am able to keep up with at least a little bit of celebrity gossip. (All the threads complaining about such and such celeb, thereby giving said celeb more visibility.)

That doesn't sound like getting fired.

This place sounds nice... Will have to check out their Tapas Tuesdays sometime. The food sounds interesting. Not sure about the beer though; beer is gross.

Good God, when are they going to fire her stupid ass?!?

Umm, perhaps when people stop talking about her??? -
Ok, I'm officially in love with Catalina! If you ever need someone to go there with you Gia, you won't have to twist my arm. And we didn't even do much - just walked around Avalon and the hills around there... Checked out all the hippies at the Earth Day celebration at Wrigley Memorial and the botanical gardens... Went on the semi-submersible thingie... and just relaxed. (We'll have to go back for the kayaking, camping, snorkeling, scuba diving, etc.) The ferry over there was fun too. We were bundled up, so we were able to stay outside the whole time. Saw a big pod of dolphins on the way out there, and watched a beautiful sunset on the way home. We stayed at the Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel, and we loved that place. It's a good walk up the hill, but it's very peaceful, with great views. It was once his home, but now it's a little hotel. All of the rooms are named after his novels; ours was called "Drift Fence" (which I have now ordered so that I can read the book). I was disappointed that they were sold out of ocean view rooms, but our room turned out to be really cool with a great view of the mountains. We even saw a deer grazing right outside our window. I took a ton of pictures, but I'll attach just a few here...

I think the fornicator atheists are the ones he needs to worry the most about. Ya know, if atheism turns out to be some sort of genetic disorder, then it's scary to think what will happen if the atheists keep fornicating and reproducing...

Well, the guy knew the risks and chose to break the law anyway (after having two prior convictions), so no, I'm not upset that _this guy_ got 15 years. I think the law itself is ridiculous though. I believe the government has much more important things to be concerned with than people growing plants. So it upsets me to see tax dollars going toward this sort of thing. How much money is going to be spent to keep this guy in jail for 15 years? I'm guessing a lot, and I'm sure that there are better uses for that money.

Ok, eight months later and we're finally going to Catalina tomorrow. (I've been distracted with other things.) The camping there sounds really nice, but we decided to do the Avalon thing this time and stay at a hotel. We haven't made any other plans, but we'll probably do some hiking and rent some kayaks. It looks like it's supposed to rain all day Friday, so hopefully there are some indoor things to do! Thanks for all the info... If we like it, then we'll have to go back and camp sometime.

And why, exactly, does this make you so happy?
-
We have to do this!

I am a bad influence. That's about the only talent I have.

We have cable, but our lives are not at all run by it. I can't even tell you what time any particular show comes on. Except that Scrubs, the Daily Show, and Stephen Colbert all come on around dinner time, because that's about all we ever watch (whatever happens to be on when dinner is ready). The only other time I usually watch tv is when I'm sick and don't feel up to doing anything else, in which case I'll watch the History Channel or the Science Channel, or something like that.

So, how was the Woodford?
-
Nice pics, John. Looks like fun... Who was guiding the trip?
-
Cool! I used to get so excited when I would see those as a kid. Where are you living now, Nick?

Anyone who doesn't think exactly the same way that I think about everything is close-minded.

Good boy.
