I have never driven the real world version of Barber Motorsports, but I have driven the virtual version and it is a good track and the Indy cars prove that it is well suited for open wheel racing. I think Road America and Watkins Glen as well as Miller Park are also all US based tracks that could easily handle a modern day F1 race. But Bernie Ecclestone wants his races close to urban areas and of course the most import criteria for Ecclestone is who is willing to give him the most money for the right to hold a race. Bernie Ecclestone needs to be perpetually bitch slapped for some of the things he has done to the sport. Bernie was good for F1 in the 1970s and 1980s ... but he has clearly lost his marbles now that he has aged. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am sure the Monaco and Spa lovers would disagree with you. But Montreal is well liked by not only the fans, but the drivers also like it. Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is well located being only 10 minutes (non-rush hour) away from downtown Montreal, it has easy metro access so parking is not an issue for the hundred thousand or so fans who attend the race and the track is a cross between the tight unforgiving street circuit of Monaco and the high speed high braking circuit of Monza. The only downside to Montreal is when the concrete breaks up on the track (damn those icy winters). Of course if F1 wanted a real challenge with a deteriorating track, they would hold the race on the public roads in Montreal complete with man eating pot holes and crumbling bridges. We aint terkin NASCAR here. They aint gunna be stopping no race cours of soom sammach wrapper. It does appear that this Austin track will be counter-clockwise, but there are more clockwise tracks in the US than you may think. Some of the notable clockwise tracks are Road America, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Indianapolis Infield Track, Road Atlanta, Infineon, VIR, Limerock, Barber Motorsports and Summit Point. This Austin track will be interesting. It looks like a cross between the modern day Hockenheim, Suzuka and the tracks in Istanbul/Shanghai. Of course it remains to be seen if passing opportunities will exist on the track or if the races will be processional. Nevertheless I say having F1 in the USA is a good thing (the track will also be used for MotoGP races). The only downside to Austin is, an existing track must be taken off the calendar to accommodate the Austin race and it would be a shame of that existing race was Melbourne. Since Bahrain is in political turmoil I would rather see that race be turfed over the Australian GP. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I was never much for that song even before seeing this movie. But "A Clockwork Orange" did change how I viewed the "William Tell Overture" song (the song played after Alex picks up the girls in the music store and take them back to his place for some of the "Old In Out"). "A Clockwork Orange" from Stanley Kubrick is a classic "birazzo" movie not to be confused with any of the other modern day drivel that comes from Hollywood these days. Stanley Kubrick has a history of making bizarre movies that make you sit back and think "WTF did I just watch". The mere fact that you ask yourself "Did I just waste 2 hours of my time, or should I watch it again" shows Stanley did his job on this movie. Personally I vote for you to watch it again, but that's just me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

New facebook group...not entirely sure what to make of it.
CanuckInUSA replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
I am a swooper (or at least I was one when I was current) and I am all for segregation. However a Facebook group? Good grief ... maybe I am in the minority, but I find Facebook becoming more and more annoying everyday. I would think swooper segregation can be talked about here on DZ.COM. But the place where swooper segregation needs to be talked about is at each DZ. Don't ban swooping!!! But people need to realize the only time they can truly reduce the risks of swooping is when swoopers are separated by time and by space. The only time swoopers should NOT be separated by time and by space is when two or more swoopers are purposely doing formation swoops and well you better be a damn good swooper before you ever think of doing formation swoops with other swoopers. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
You should get into politics as you clearly do what they do. You seek to slander those who's opinions differ from your own while you totally ignore the issue at hand. Obama is either playing cheap politics by appeasing to his base when he tells them "I am considering having the Oil Sands shut down" or the man just lacks the basic intelligence to realize he can not reduce the USA's dependency on Middle East oil while at the same time shutting down the Oil Sands. Which one is it? I actually think Obama is smarter than thinking he can reduce the dependency and have the Oil Sands shutdown at the same time. So it goes back to Obama talking out of both sides of his mouth. Care to address the issue? Or is slander your preferred way to deal with issues? Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Tell me oh professor specialist of youth indoctrination to your Fabian Socialist beliefs, why is Obama telling people "Maybe we should be closing down the Oil Sands" and then turning around and telling people "We need to reduce our dependency on Middle East oil". Is Obama playing cheap politics to appease his base? Or is he just not that smart enough to realize that he can NOT reduce the USA's dependency on Middle East oil without using Canada's Oil Sands? Do you care to address the issue here or are you too busy throwing PAs at people? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
I see you are still refusing to deal with this issue of this thread. Tell me, before NATO took over control of the Libyan "no fly zone" mission, did you support Obama when he ordered air strikes and cruise missiles to be fired? One would think a Nobel Peace Prize winner would not be so fast to wage war. But as usual the partisans only view the world from one side of their rose colored glasses. I have no excuse for my first reference of "Tar Sands". But the second reference where Bill decided to direct his slander was taken out of context and one only needs to read the thread to see why it was used. If that is your definition of a weasel, then throw me some mice and if you can not find some mice throw me some shrews, pikas, birds, fish and insects. I am hungry and I would like to be fed. He/she who has never made a mistake in their life may cast the first stone. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Not sure if you missed my reference so I will repeat it again: Going around in circles making only left hand turns and being fast was not so easy. Oh and there is a common misconception that in NASCAR they only make left hand turns. But in order to come out of a left hand turn, one needs to turn the wheel to the right. Have I succeeded in hijacking this thread yet? It never was my intention. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I have never driven a real world Late Model, Nationwide, Camper Truck or Sprint Car (and chances of me driving one of these in the real world is slim to nil). But thanks to www.iracing.com I have driven the virtual versions and one thing I did learn driving these cars in iRacing was going around in circles making only left hand turns was easy. But going around in circles making only left hand turns and being fast was not so easy. Oh and NASCAR may not rule supreme on ESPN anymore, but it is king of the hill on Speed TV. Of course Speed TV is owned by NASCAR. LOL Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Absolutely hopeless, partisan politics at it's worst. I even called GWB a moron in this thread so that there would be no need to go back a waste time using the search tool and yet I am still labeled as a GWB fan. Still unwilling to actually address the topic of this thread I see. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
From a 20,000 foot view, it appears that the other side actually won the civil war (not the side the history books tells us who won). NASCAR rules in America. Sports Car Racing (ALMS), Indy Car and Formula One take a back seat to NASCAR. Yup it looks the history books were wrong. Now get back in yer car and start making them left hand turns before I sick Billy Bob on you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
You know Amazon if you went back and read the 2006 thread where I used the term "Tar Sands" you would see that I was actually attacking GWB at the time. More cherry picking from the peanut gallery. Care to address the issue of this thread? Which if you need to be reminded is: Why is the current US president saying out of one side of his mouth "maybe we should shutdown the Tar Sands" (his words not mine) when from the other side of his mouth he is saying "the USA needs to reduce it's dependency on Middle East oil". Either Obama is playing cheap politics to appease people he wants votes from, or Obama needs to be educated in how Canada is the USA's largest supplier of natural resources. Which is it? Obama the politician? or Obama who was given a job he clearly was not qualified to have when he does not even know who his largest trading partner is? or do you need to stick to your usual partisan "name calling" politics. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Search is an interesting tool. With search we can not hide from words we have written in the past. One can easily search "Tar Sands" and see I used the words twice (not counting this thread) in my entire existence here on the DorkZone. I wonder how many other times did I use "Oil Sands"? There is not enough hours in the day to go back to count the references. But I am sure it was the norm not the exception. I put my foot in my mouth here. No excuses. Not sure why I called them "Tar Sands" back in 2006, but there is no hiding that I called them this. Maybe I was not as defensive five years ago concerning the "Oil Sands" as I am now because five years ago we didn't have a US president suggesting that maybe the "Oil Sands" should be shut down for the 0.1% global contribution it makes to the entire world's CO2 emissions. Oh and 5 years ago I thought the US president at the time was a moron, so don't go painting me as something that I am not. When you dug up this reference made in 2007, did you bother to read the entire thread or was slander the primary goal "oh look I found Tar Sands" time to go on the attack. If you read the entire thread you will see that the OP of the thread was claiming the supply of world oil was coming to an end, I stepped in specifically using the term "Oil Sands" saying that the world supply was not in jeopardy and then the OP decided to start slagging the "Oil Sands" as one of the world's worst environmental disasters and the OP was the one who first called them "Tar Sands" in the thread at which time my response was to use the same words. Tell me did you actually read this thread or was the primary purpose of your search to slander someone? You got me on my first reference. But you were clearly on the attack on the second reference. Next time people should read the threads instead of cherry picking words. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Slip of the tongue (or in my case the keyboard). Obviously I made a mistake several years ago and will be thrown to the DorkZone.com wolfs. But I am not a politicians looking to buy votes. My gaff still does stop Obama from playing politics. Appeasing the enviro'nuts while he clearly knows (or just does not know enough about the file) that he does not have a hope in hell in closing down the Oil Sands if he is serious about reducing the dependency of middle east oil. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
You would think that lowering the USA's dependency on middle east oil might be seen as progress. You would think that part of this progress towards lowering the USA's dependency on middle east oil would be to find replacements from areas of the world that are less politically volatile. But to gain cheap political points Obama decides to slag the "Oil Sands" to appease his enviro'nut support. Nothing wrong with looking for alternative energy resources, but you know damn well that oil is here and will not be replaced anytime soon. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
There are a number of things you say I do agree with. - Yes oil extraction from the Oil Sands is not a cheap process and it does have a certain environmental impact. But the companies extracting this oil must clean up once they are done and in a comical way you can look at the Oil Sands as one of Mother Nature's large natural disasters and humans are presently cleaning up this natural disaster by mining the Oil Sands. - Our planet is over populated. I remember when I was in high school in the late 70s early 80s the population was estimated to be just over 4 billion people and now it is well over 7 billion? It has almost doubled in 30 years. That is mind boggling. There is no way the planet can sustain so many people if everyone was to live the lifestyle North Americans and Europeans live. But that is the direction China and India are on and can you blame them for wanting to modernize their societies? Until the entire world changes, nothing will change. The enviro'nuts could close down the Oil Sands (I doubt they will as long as the USA needs oil and is serious about reducing it's dependency on the Middle East). No even if the enviro'nuts were to succeed in closing the Oil Sands, that would only be 0.1% of the world's greenhouse gases. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
People who refer to them as "Tar Sands" want the "Oil Sands" closed down. One of two things is going on here. Obama either wants to close them down, or Obama just isn't that smart and never bothered to be properly educated on the topic. For a region of the world that causes only 0.1% of the world's greenhouse gases, it sure does get the enviro'nuts up in arms. I guess waging war in the Middle East and North Africa is a much better option. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Obama is playing politics right now talking out of both sides of his mouth. Obama is slagging the Oil Sands to appease the enviro'nuts when he damn well knows he can't cease using the Oil Sands. The USA is addicted enough already to Middle East oil, they can't add to their addiction but cutting off the Oil Sands as the enviro'nuts want him to. Pure politics talking out of both sides of his mouth. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
