"The Star-Spangled Banner" at Chicago Blackhawks games
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in Speakers Corner
Canada should scrap that anthem and adopt this one instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZWxErEbQkY Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
The other day I saw a news story where McDonalds was looking to hire more than 4000 new workers across Canada (I have no idea what wages they were paying) and the first thing that went through my mind was "The nation needs to re-evaluate their diets if 4000 new McDonalds workers are needed". Walmart and McDonalds. You get what you paid for. You get crap (more so at McPukes). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If these people are legit they will be sending their correspondence to specific Drop Zones. All DZs have "contact us" email addresses prospective customers can use. When you reply to an unsolicited email query, you are telling the person on the other end "I am real, I am here, I am active" and they can start using whatever information they have on you, against you. There are a number of politicians I swear who are suffering from Alzheimer's. "The Donald" (technically not a politician ... yet) who is behind this latest "Birther" trend is one who's Alzheimer's must be acting up. We here north of the border have our own politicians (Michael Ignatieff comes to mind) who are showing us what a bad case of early onset of Alzheimer's can do to you. The GOP does not need this "birther" issue to defeat Obama in 2012. The GOP just needs a good candidate. Obama (who inherited a bad economy) has only made it worse and has done little towards all his empty "Hope and Change" promises. But the GOP will be gifting Obama a second term if they continue to allow people such as "The Donald" or "Sarah Palin" to speak for them. You see, as much as Obama has done little towards fulfilling all of his promises and only made things worse than what they were when he inherited the job, Obama is still young and is NOT showing signs (yet) that his Alzheimer's is setting in. The GOP would be smart if they stated distancing themselves from "The Donald". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I can not vote in this poll because it is missing the option: "Citizens have little control over the content of the internet". Edited to add: recently I have noticed navigating here on dizzy.com has slowed down because every time I navigate from one page or another information is being redirected to 3rd party sites. I once worked on a software project that purposely intercepted HTTP/HTTPS traffic and recorded the requests and content responses. Our product was not intended to be used as "Big Brother" information gathering. It was simply used to help companies assess their servers with accurate load balancing information. But we were still intercepting everything. There was nothing that we were not recording and did not have the ability to play back later. All we needed was to have our servers placed in front of the target servers and the information came to us first, we recorded it and then passed it on to the intended target. People should not be naive here. This has become common practice. There is nothing secret on the net. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

America (and it's allies) has turned into a nation of "Takers" who are driving away "Makers". "Makers" are a dying breed in America and both Donkeys and Elephants are responsible for this trend. It's easy to make special interest spending promises to people you want to vote for you since it's not your money you are spending. But there will not be anymore money once all the "Makers" have been turned into "Takers". There is no denying there is a need for government control in certain sectors of society. Without some government control there is anarchy. But the Big Government bureaucracy is out of control. How much money does America waste pushing money around through it's IRS tax laws? The only people who think the IRS serves a useful purpose are the bureaucrats, the accountants and their lawyers. I chose the wrong career 25+ years ago when I got into the software business (now migrating to China and India). I should have become an accountant or a lawyer. I am afraid America (and it's allies) are on a road to destruction because "Takers" are the largest growing demographic and "Makers" are going the way of the dinosaur. Every dominant society in the history of humanity has fallen and the US is no different. The sooner the "Takers" continue to drive away the "Makers", the sooner America will be destroyed. Karl Marx must be rolling in his grave because what is going on in China these days is not what Karl envisioned. China is very much a nation of "haves" and "have nots". Capitalism is far from perfect. It produces winners and losers and hard work alone does not guarantee success. But capitalism does still offer people the ability to chase their dreams and with effort and some luck, they can make their own lives better for themselves and their families. Sitting back and whining about what a "have not victim of the world" you are will never improve your conditions. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I sure hope the GOP find someone other than Donald Trump to be their Presidential nominee. Trump is just too abrasive. Personally I still feel that Mitt Romney or Ron Paul would be much better choices. But Ron Paul makes too much sense so the GOP will never choose him and Romney has this Mormon religious thing hanging over his head which prevents the GOP Evangelicals from supporting him despite the fact the Romney has been a successful leader in business and in government (imagine that choosing a man who has been successful in both the private and public sectors). Maybe Huckabee will be the compromise candidate? Time will tell. Now as far as the title of this thread is concerned and the arguments "The Donald" has been presenting is concerned ... I don't know what the fuck a "Certificate of Live Birth" is. But "The Donald" is saying it is NOT a birth certificate and so far the only thing Obama has presented is a "Certificate of Live Birth" that was apparently issued a week or so after Obama's mother had him. This whole "Birther" issue can be put to rest if Obama would only produce an actual "Birth Certificate" or if this "Certificate of Live Birth" would only be recognized as a "Birth Certificate" (which apparently some say it is not). IMHO the GOP will be giving Obama a 2nd term gift if they run Palin or "The Donald" against Obama in 2012. But if the GOP can actually pull their heads out of their asses and come up with a better candidate, Obama will be a one term Prez. But does it all matter? Since according to the 2012 Dooms Day believers, we will all be dead one month after the 2012 US Presidential election anyway. ROFLMAO. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Iran: Dog Ownership to Be Outlawed Under Lawmakers' Plan

Best Concert(s): 1995 Pink Floyd (without Roger Watters) in a large outdoor stadium. 2007 Pink Floyd (with Watters no Gilmour) in an indoor stadium. 1982 Stevie Ray Vaughan at a small indoor venue. Worst Concert? 1988 Motorhead opened up for Alice Cooper (AC was awesome, Motorhead was too loud). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

"The Star-Spangled Banner" at Chicago Blackhawks games
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in Speakers Corner
From 2000 through to 2004 I was a Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder and the fans in the Pepsi Can used to cheer during the playing of the National Anthem. But I doubt they were as loud as these Hawks fans. Didn't you get the memo? You a no longer supposed to be patriotic. The politically correct thing to do these days is tell the world how ashamed you are of your country and ask the world for their forgiveness as you engage in wealth redistribution schemes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Who are you and what did you do with the regular rational BillVon the moderator we know? Twice now in this thread I have said there is no harm in recommending things to people. Obviously I was fixating on the word instead as Kallend was saying don't watch this movie, but instead watch another one. What is wrong with watching both movies and then forming an opinion after the fact. Once again I have no problem when someone recommends something to me. But I want the freedom of choice to make my own decisions. I don't need others telling me what to watch and what not to watch. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I value world where people are allowed to make their own choices as to what they want to do with their time. I want nothing to do with a world where I am told what to watch. If someone wants to recommend a movie to me, that is fine. But let me decide what I watch and what I don't watch. I know little about this "Atlas Shrugged" story. Chances were very high that I was NOT going to watch it before this thread popped up. But seeing as the usual Fabian Socialists around here who believe in indoctrination are criticizing the movie. It might just be worth a few laughs and I may make a point to watch it when it becomes available. The vast majority of work that comes out of Hollywood these days is pure garbage. So maybe this movie is like all the other Hollywood trash. I will however reserve all judgment on whether or not I like the movie until after I see it, if I do indeed make the time to watch it. I finally got around to watching "The Pacific" HBO series about some of the battles the USMC had with the Empire of Japan from 1942 through to 1945 and I have to say I started off watching the first few episodes thinking "This is pretty lame compared to Band of Brothers". But things really turned around in the second half of the series. I was aware of many of the hardships the USMC went through in this war, but this HBO series really did a good job in bringing us some historical accuracy to the battles and now I view "The Pacific" in just as high regard as I view "Band of Brothers". It was interesting watching "Sledge" go from being this naive green kid fresh off the boat to being "Sledgehammer" the lean mean Jap killing machine. I liked the part where once the war was over and Sledge was talking to the girl at some college open house discussing his post war education opportunities. The girl was asking Sledge all these dumb questions like "did he gain any journalism experience while in the South Pacific" and Sledge's response was "They taught me how to kill Japs. I got pretty good at it". Anyway good series ... I will need to watch the early episodes again and maybe catch a few things I did not pick up the first time around. Fire extinguishers banned as a fire safety hazard
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
I know we are talking Fire Extinguishers here, but I would like to present an analogy which is similar. The #1 priority of "First Aid" is: Prevention of further Injury Example: there is no point running out in the middle of a fog filled highway to help people who have been involved in an accident when more vehicles continue to pile into the accident because they can not see where they are going. You are not helping anyone when you yourself become an accident victim because of your own stupidity. Back on topic of Fire Extinguishers ... They serve a purpose and sometimes (not always) can prevent a fire from getting out of control. People must use common sense when a fire breaks out. A fire extinguisher can help if the fire is caught early enough. But once smoke from the fire is filling the top half of the room, people must get the hell out of there ASAP as the shit is about to hit the fan. Banning Fire Extinguishers is dumb beyond belief. But people must use common sense before they decide to pick up that Fire Extinguisher. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Lindsey Graham demands more government spending
CanuckInUSA replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
The Mothercorps software is pissing off more than just Conservatives. It is telling NDP supporters that they are actually Greenies and telling Greenies that they are Liberals. About the only people who like the Mothercorps software are the Liberals because 9 out of 10 times it tells people to vote for the Liberals. Funny thing, the software seems to think the Liberals are Centrists when in reality it is hard to tell a difference between the Liberals and the NDP in this election since both parties are out in the left field bleachers peddling their socialism. These promises of socialist nirvana are to be expected from the NDP, but Ignatieff has taken the Liberals so far to the left that it is clear they are out to muscle the NDP off the scene. Nope the Mothercorps software is extremely flawed, yet that does not stop them from pushing it on their lemmings. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
World Bank: Food prices have entered the 'danger zone'

You are on the right path, but still not enough. We need our cars to do our driving for us as they take us to the approved car free zones. This way there will never be a risky of us using our cars to kill. The world of THX1138 is not too far away. In the 1970s this was thought of as Science Fiction. But in a few decades it will become a reality. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Lindsey Graham demands more government spending
CanuckInUSA replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
You ain't seen nothing yet. Count yourself lucky that you do not have a publicly funded media organization who has come up with a computerized tool where people enter their opinions on various social issues and then have the tool tell you who you should be voting for. Our publicly funded media organization has done just this. 9 out of 10 times, this media tool tells you to vote for preferred candidate the publicly funded media organization supports and it does not matter how many times people complain that this tool is faulty and inaccurate, this publicly funded media organization continues to peddle their tool because they believe there are enough stupid people in this world to buy into their propaganda. Lindsey Graham demands more government spending
CanuckInUSA replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
This Lindsey Graham character is a hypocrite if on one hand cuts are being demanded while on the other hand "do not dare make cuts to my special interest project". But should we be surprised? A politician who talks out of both sides of their mouth? Why do people continue to worship politicians? Everywhere you look governments (Federal, State/Provincial and Municipal) are addicted to spending. Canada is in the middle of a Federal election right now and all we hear from all sides (some are worse than others) is "How many spending promises can they make to their lemmings". Who can buy who's vote with promises of government spending. It is out of control and as much as politicians are scum of the earth, I place the blame on the public who continue to demand spending on special interest projects. If the public wasn't demanding all this spending, then politicians would not be promising their spending and governments would not be spending like they do. Since the public demands special interest project spending, that is exactly what we get. And the debt clock continues to tick. Tick tock, tick tock.
