I'm not sure if I really should be posting in this forum as currently "I am NOT a base jumper" and didn't even find a category to vote for in this poll. But like many, I do have an opinion on when to start base jumping (I think). I have the jump #s and canopy control skills to start base jumping now (and being in CO, you've got to think that I should be able to find a mentor). But I'm NOT rushing into base because currently I don't have the right mind set to spend the time up front educating myself on the gear, packing techniques and the general attitudes of when to jump and when to say "no". It's my impression that base jumping is an order of magnatude more dangerous than skydiving and base jumpers really need to be knowledgeable and competent with all aspects of the sport. Canopy control is obviously a huge factor, but one also needs to assume that gear knowledge, packing techniques and the general go-no-go mind set must exist. As far as whether or not Angela is a cutie. I don't know. But hopefully I will get to meet her this weekend while I'm in Sebastian and if she's a hottie, I may just have to sneak her (alive of course) into my bags when I return to CO on Sunday. I would say "NO", you have NOT lost your mind. You've just found what many of us have found. A new exhilarting way to experience life to it's fullest. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang ... now how'd I get myself into this? Oh ya, I remember now ... it has something to do with my current status in the US. Okay here goes: 1) Draw a bubble bath for my SO and make sure a freshly opened bottle of wine is included in the deal. 2) Do all of the standard domestic duties ... you know ... pick up after myself, put the toilet seat down, do the dishes, laundry, etc, etc, etc. 3) Send my SO random messages so that she knows I'm thinking about her. 4) Spend a day with the SO's rug rats so that the SO can either jump from an airplane or from a building, antenna, bridge and/or cliff. 5) and much much more ... Ah shucks ... in all of this, I don't see any jumping for good ole' Steve-o here. The sacrifices one must make. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Ironically I do have my November issue with me here at work and yes I did check out your 15 minutes of fame pic. My name has appeared in Parachutist three times now (A, B & D licenses), but still no mug shot. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Believe it or not, I am hoping to get a decent night of sleep tonight as I know sleep isn't likely to be on the menu this weekend (not with guys like SkymonkeyOne hanging around Sebastian). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well let's put those wedding plans on hold for now. I've got a company lunch thing-a-ma-bob going on. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

When you consider that Kathryn and myself have never met, never talked on the phone, this DZ.COM love connection you speak of may be a little premature. But who knows ... I will be at the Eloy Holiday Boogie and should get an opportunity to meet her then. Of course I'm also in FL this weekend and next weekend in Brush CO they are having cheap $15 jumps for ther girls (sort of like a ladies night affair). But if a love connection does occur, yes you can take the credit. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Only ONE more sleep until I arrive in FL for "The Bytch Boogie". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What about moving to CO? Okay, I'm sure the skydiving is better in AZ, but the weather is likely better here (it never gets too cold or too hot). Believe it or not, doing the dishes isn't a big deal for me. I'd much rather do them than doing the laundry, vacuuming or have to do yard work. Hi Kalyne Skydiving is NOT a sport, it's a lifestyle. If your current main is not working for you, then you must cut it away and go for your reserve. I'd like to say a few words of wisdom here, but I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to relationships. By the way, I'm sure I've seen you at the DZ. But if you start hanging out more, don't be afraid to introduce yourself. I'll be the one waundering around with his head chopped off wondering what I'll do on my next jump. No argument here. But the sad fact is, my current status in the USA is very much dependent on my job. Of course I really should be concentrating on my job right now instead of posting here on DZ.COM ... ... By the way, I'm off to jump in Sebastian this weekend. So who knows? Maybe I'll come back wanting to relocate to FL. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

For me race isn't as big of an issue that religion is. But I'm sorry, I'm still attracted to caucasian females more than others. But religion can be a problem. I am agnostic (meaning I don't know if there is, or isn't a god, it's just too much for my little brain to comprehend). But I can't see myself being with a hard core christian, catholic, jewish, muslin or whatever other religion people as that aspect is just not focal to my every day existence. I want to be at the DZ Saturday and Sunday mornings (nursing my hang over) not at some place or worship listening to someone's garbage of how they see the world. From a jumping point of view, the logical relocation choice would be Phoenix Arizona as not only is there world class skydiving to be had (in what 8-9 months of the year) but Phoenix also has enough computer IT work to keep me busy (Southern CA and FL don't seem to have the computer work that Northern CA, CO or AZ have). But as long as I'm contempt jumping here in CO, why would I want to leave. CO is a fantastic place to be. Just don't talk to me about moving back to Canada because the skydiving there isn't nearly as good as it is south of the border. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

How far have you come since your 1st post?
CanuckInUSA replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first ever jump was a tandem jump made on July 14th, 2002 and my first post on DZ.COM was one week later on July 21st, 2002. In that time, I have made a total of 454 jumps which is a lot of jumps, but there are a handful of folks who have made even more than me. So I am by no means NOT the most addicted skydiver out there (though the bug has hit me hard). My short term skydiving goals are: 1) Not to fuck up one of my landings. 2) Dial in my 270s. 3) At some point add rear riser input to my swoops. 4) Become an even better freeflier than what I am. 5) Possibly start flying tandem camera slots (I have been warned against working at a DZ). Many of my long term skydiving goals are unknown, but here's a few: 1) Not to fuck up one of my landings. 2) Become pro rated. 3) Get my coach rating (not sure about AFF). 4) Be a bad ass freeflier and swooper. 5) Possibly become a rigger. 6) Possibly become a base jumper. I have grown up quick in this sport (not that I don't still have plenty to learn) and have seen enough crap to know that jumping out of airplanes has it's dangers. But I can't for the life of me, see myself going back to my old whuffo life. Finally, my hat goes off to Sangiro for making DZ.COM a reality. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I voted "I like landing in airplanes" because I am a licensed private pilot. Knock on wood, I have yet to have to land in a jump plane (to date I have jumped from every airplane I've been on wearing a skydiving rig). But if need be, I will let the pilot land and I won't freak out like so many skydivers seem to unrationally do when the topic of landing in an airplanes comes up. It's good to know that you're often safe. Of course here in Boulder, people are safe almost by default. But I guess some guys didn't feel that way this morning. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Here's those promised pics ... the pics were taken a good 60 minutes ago and the smoke cloud is even bigger now than what it was. I'm sure this is small peanuts compared to the CA fires. But it is a big fire nevertheless and one of my co-workers (who ironically is on vacation) lives in the area of the fire. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
