Colorado CPC Event # 1 Results
CanuckInUSA replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I never realized how angry I look while I'm concentrating on my swoop. But a number of pictures like this one were captured of me this weekend with that nasty look on my face. By the way, there appears to have been a small mistake made in tabulating the final results and we're thinking that you (Eric) finished in 8th place ahead of Keith. Nice come back after struggling with those early rounds. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
0:15:1 No humps. 15 jumps including 6 competition swooping rounds of the Colorado CPC region where I finished in 6th place out of 11 competitors. One of the judges said that I touched a gate on my first speed round event (which the video did not show). So the ensuing 5 second penalty cost me 5th place. But what can you do? I didn't feel anything, but if the judge says I touched it, I guess I can't argue with the judge if we want them to help us out in future competitions. 1 case of beer owed (but not paid ... I'm bad for that) for competiting in my first swoop competition. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Screwed by the wind, so I just hung out for 6 hours at the DZ

Colorado CPC Event # 1 Results
CanuckInUSA replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'm a little bummed that I missed out being in the top five by only one spot. But as a first time rookie swoop competitor, I have to say I had a blast at Colorado's 1st CPC event. There was tons of camaraderie between all competitors with everyone encouraging and helping each other along the way. And while the top two competitors did kick everyone else's butt (good job Spizzarko and Dbsbreck for your #1 and #2 placings respectively), it was a very competitive competition with most people consistently scoring points throughout each of the event's six rounds. Thanks for the great event Jason and special thanks must go out to all the people and judges who helped make one of Colorado's best swoop comps to date a reality. One down, four more to go. PS: Jason, while you don't need to post the result here, it would be cool to see how the competition results were broken down between each round. I like the way you put that. Good Post!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Sometimes us guys can notice a good makeup job. But most of the time we can't or at least are distracted by something else - like boobies. So unless the woman is nicknamed "eye-brow" I don't think plucking ones eye-brows needs to be high up on the priorities list. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We don't need to be in shape to skydive. So in that respect I do agree that swooping can be a fat guy's sport. We sit around all day waiting to get on a load, don't exert that much energy when we jump, we pack, repeat all day long and then we drink tons of beer and often consume the wrong fatty foods at night. So yah!!! Swooping is a fat boy sport!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Being a Responsible Seller
CanuckInUSA replied to karenmeal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jump numbers are an indication of experience, not skill. I wouldn't sell your Stiletto 107 to anyone with under 300 jumps. But we're all different with different backgrounds (some of us were pilots before we were jumpers as an example). So some newbies are very heads up and on the ball while some so called experienced people have just poor canopy control skills. If the person in question has received canopy control coaching, and seems to have the right attitude, then sure sell it to them. Otherwise we must bite the bullet and not sell it to them. I'm sure one day in the not too distant future I will be in a similar boat when it comes time for me to sell my Velocity 111 (it's actually under loaded). And time will tell as to how many people are interested in it and how motivated I am to sell it. But I do know that it is NOT a canopy for newbies and intermediates. Oh I see how it works. First it was okay to be a Katie/Katy/Katee, but now I need to be blonde as well? Jeepers can't a guy get a break around here. Oh and yes I know I wouldn't get a penny from you by sueing you, but think about all that media exposure. I mean I could be FOX's next poster child? Hmmm ... I might need to find a different network though. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Kmonster did pass through Mile-Hi one week last year and I got to do a jump with her and Rex Green (who's kind of vanished from the scene these last four months). By the way, if I was to change my name to one of the above mentioned names, can I too be on you Katie/Katy/Katee way? If not I'll call you on "Name" discrimination and sue you for millions. It's not fair having to go through life as a Steve. Then again, it could be worse. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I rarely get cold in freefall, only under canopy and usually only my hands are the ones which are the coldest. I think you have to deal with much more humidity than I do, but 43 on the ground isn't that bad. I've jumped in colder conditions. But it's your $$$ and your enjoyment which counts. So you need to do whatever you need to do to satisfy yourself. Have fun if you do jump and if you don't jump, know that skydiving will be there for you on another day.

Sucks that Mother Nature is getting in your way. If the forecast doesn't look all that good and if you're not up to hanging around the DZ when it's weathered out, then I would cancel the room and go another weekend. I have been in similar boats going up to the bridge in Twin Falls Idaho. If the weather is looking marginal, then I might not make that 10 hour drive from Colorado each way. There's always another day and another weekend. You could always move to another part of the country where Mother Nature doesn't interrupt the jumping as much. This may not be an option for you, but I hate when people complain that they can't get in the air because they live in a part of the world with less than ideal WX conditions. But once again, moving may not be an option for you. But it's always out there if you want to jump more. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We've been using gender neutral bathrooms for a long time folks. Check out your average gas station pooper. In many cases there's only one of them at the facility, and it needs to be shared by both men and women. Granted there's usually only room for one person in these bathrooms, but it is a shared bathroom. There's way too many people judging others in this thread (what else is new). What do you care if a uni-sex bathroom appears some where? If you've got to go, you've got to go and in many cases (in the public's perception) it's better to use the facilities than it is to pull up a tree. Where do you wear your altimeter?
CanuckInUSA replied to grue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I do wear a normal altimeter on my left hand for freefall and malfunction altitude awareness. But I also wear a digital Suunto around my waist (on a belt) and I use that as a instrument in the setup of my swoops. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Holly was the type of person who would hug a stranger. I know this because she essentially did this to me before we even knew each other and became friends with each other. The first time I met Holly, we were both on an Eloy Otter and she kissed me because myself and some friends were about to do my 100th. She was a special woman and is definitely still missed and loved by many. "Party like a rock star" - one of Holly's favorite sayings. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

:14:1 Got 14 jumps in this weekend. Beer owed (but not paid) for jumping with weights for the 1st time (20 lbs). Dang our landings here in CO with no wind on a hot day can be fast. If you don't believe me, you've got to jump here to know what I'm talking about. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Calgary is an awesome city and the Alberta Rockies are to die for ... plus I've seen video of a 900 foot cliff. But yes, 30 dollars for 10k out of a Cessna 182 only 6 months of the year is not ideal. At least Pitt Meadows has a King Air and goes to 12.5 for the same 30 dollars. The mind is spinning right now. I could go to: The Bay Area Phoenix Orlando or Tampa Seattle Atlanta maybe even TX Shit as long as I could handle the Mormons, the Salt Lake City/Ogden area is a possibility for it's close proximity to both Moab and the bridge. Now wouldn't I fit in with all those religious Mormons? But good legal BASE jumping would be close and Skydive Ogden is a hip DZ. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

For those who may be interested, I just got this interest nugget from that immigration web site concerning myself looking for work while holding a B-2 visitors visa. So assuming I get the B-2 (I still need to fill out the paper work and send the application in), it looks like my days in Colorado maybe numbered, but not my days as a NAFTA TN-1 technology worker in the USA. Hmmm ... which state should I relocate to? I know nor-Cal is the leader for my skills and experience. But the cost of living there is nuts. I guess I could look in some other (jumper friendly) places. Sucks to have to leave Colorado as I've really enjoyed my 7 years here (and I may still end up back home in Canada). But I guess I'll need to start surfing the job search web sites. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

LOL ... I was thinking that I needed to find a place in the Pitt Meadows area so that I wouldn't have to commute to the DZ all that far. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
