  1. It's likely too late to fight the Iraq war on the internet. But the USA looks to be on it's way towards yet another war, this time in North Korea. Maybe they can setup a little internet action so that patriotic rednecks can kill some commies while eating apple pie from the comfort of home. PS: Flame me if you must people, but I think we're in for a world of trouble if/when GWB starts dropping bombs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I voted for "depends on the circumstance". But seven years ago when I was contemplating leaving my nice modest house up in Canada for a job in Colorado, my mother gave me some excellent advice. She said "Don't get attached to material objects". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I can understand why this Marine shot the Iraqi. Emotions can and do run very high in a stressful environment like war. And I can understand why he wasn't charged. War is not a pretty business and soldiers shouldn't have to second guess themselves worrying about some beurocrat/politician behind a desk making them make fighting a war with one hand tied behind your back (like what they did to the soldiers of Vietnam). But I wouldn't go so far in saying that this dude's actions were justified. He did kill an unarmed and wounded soldier after all. But the last thing US servicemen and women in Iraq need to worry about is being thrown in jail for killing the enemy during a time of war. So I'm kind of sitting on the fence as far as this case is concerned. The Iraqi is dead an nothing we say here in DZ.COM will change that. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Having met you in person Don, all I can say is yes "that's you". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. But ... but ... but ... there's video of a sac of dog food hucking off of that span with no prior ram air canopy control experience. If a sac of dog food can do it, why can't this person do it? Seriously ... for the person who's started this thread. If you really are serious about getting into BASE, do hundreds and hundreds of skydives first. I did 700+ skydives before my first BASE jump. But then again, I didn't start skydiving to get into BASE. BASE just found me along the way. Canopy control is a major influence towards surviving in the BASE environment. When you've got to land in a tight landing area with no 2nd chances, you need to know how to control that canopy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Billy Joel? Say it ain't so!!! Then again he was married to Christy Brinkley for a while there. As for my 1000th jump, well if you count my skydives plus my BASE jumps together, it's already happened. But I'm currently 45 skydives away from 1000 and it would be cool if this happened two weekends from now during our 2nd CPC swoop comp (of course I will need to jump a lot between now and then). But if not, it'll be either a freeflying dive (depending on who's there that day) or a tracking dive. Maybe a hybrid. Time will tell. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Do I need to train more for this event? You know (at least for us flawed males) there's only so many kittens that can be killed per day before the well runs dry and needs time to be replenished. I think the female participants could last longer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. When I was younger, I looked like the oldest son from the TV show "Eight is Enough" as well as King Arthur from the movie "Excalibur". But now that I'm older, I'd have to say that I look like ... myself. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I can't believe you actually believe this. Yes a well trained army has a better chance of survival than a poorly trained one. But in the time of war, even the best could be in the wrong place at the wrong time. War is about killing and being killed. War is a horrible thing and should only be ventured into as a last resort. Unfortunately too many people (throughout history, not just now) have used war for personal gain. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. It's one thing for me to put a video together with copyrighted music and try to sell it to the world (can you say I'm setting myself up for trouble). But I see no harm in putting copyrighted music on some tandem's own personal video. Who's going to see the video? Friends and family that's who. Sure both practices may be technically wrong, but do we always have to follow "The Mans" rules? Oh and I have created a series of video with copyrighted music on it. But I didn't sell my videos. I gave them away. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. One should never try to dig themselves out of the corner with their rears. Otherwise I thought your analogy was reasonably good for being (or should I say avoiding) the corner. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Nice work Katie. Hey did you ever meet Winnie Chang from the UK? She's a fellow BASE jumper. But the reason why I bring her up is that she too has been into these Adventure Races. But I haven't spoken with her in a while, so who knows what she's been up to. You going to be in Twin over Memorial Day? I still need a few small video clips to finish a project of mine. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Wow I can't believe a former work colleague tried to get me to join yet another startup company. What's even funnier is that this company has no money. So they've decided that the only way to get the job done would be to pay their employees in stock. Hmmm ... working long hard hours to only be compensating with stock in a small privately owned company. That doesn't seem like a good deal for me (of course my last four jobs have been with failed technology startups, so that doesn't help with my mind set). I'm not going to touch this one with a ten foot pole. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Good looking when I was younger and had hair. Rich when I was career oriented and chasing the Jones (all before I started jumping of couse). Of course I have zero income right now and can still afford to skydive, so I'm not that poor. But as for nice? Hmmm ... no comment. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I think I resemble a few of the men you describe. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. So far I have nothing but positive thoughts towards the new CPC. As a rookie swoop comp competitor it is doing exactly as intended. It is giving me valuable experience in the competition environment. Plus if you can believe it, now that I've been running gates for the last couple of months, I find swooping into a big open field (or the beer line) far less fullfilling than swooping a course. Thanks to Jim and Lyle for coming up with the CPC and thanks to all the regional organizers for all their hard work. Our first CPC comp in CO a couple of weekends ago went very well (officially I finished in 6th, but a possible mistake in scoring zone accuracy may give me 5th), and more importantly I had a lot of fun. So if you're one of those guys sitting on the fence wondering whether to compete or not, then come on out. You might be surprised at how much fun it is, how much camaraderie you'll build with your fellow competitors and how much experience you build competing. 18. I've been living within a 10 minute walk from a Mal-Mart for the last six months. And because of this thread, I walked in there this morning for the first time and purchased some reasonably cheap blue-jeans for $16.20 (tax included). Not bad considering the same jeans go for a much higher price in some other store. Do I like Wal-Mart? Not really. But when I need certain products and don't want to spend tons of $$$, then Wal-Mart will get my business like they did today. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Blame it on the snakes. Now that ski season is wrapping up, the snakes have no better place to be than hiding in the grass waiting for their next victim. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. LOL ... I was a little harsh on you there as I assumed a few things about yours truly (I know don't assume things otherwise you make an ass out of you and me). I agree that alcohol is NOT for everyone and in some cases great harm does occur because of it. But like any controversial topic (drugs, alcohol, guns, religion, sports like jumping etc, etc, etc) it's the extremes which are the problem. General usage and respect is not to be feared. Oh and I couldn't wait for the bowl. It went down well. Now what else should I do with myself now that I'm not working. Hmmm ... getting off of the computer would be a step in the right direction. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I'm all disappointed now. I thought you were going to tell us how you recently killed some kittens (you know, everytime you masterbate, God kills a kitten). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Let's see. Today I've already consume a coffee and some chocolate (hmmm ... yummy ... and I've got a good coffee/sugar buzz going) and I may just go off to the local liquor store later to get some alcohol. Who knows maybe a bowl is also in my future? All things that a good mormon (or was that moron) would disagree with. And then tomorrow I may go off to the DZ to get some jumps in and who knows what may transpire? I may just strap my video camera on and do something "dangerous" like jump out of an airplane and test gravity. Am I the only one here getting tired of the safety nazis impossing their will on everyone else regardless of how responsible/irresponsible we are? Question: so why do you want to change everyone into something that you are? (I'm guessing for religious reasons ... but I could be wrong) Why do you choose to judge people different from yourself? Must everyone subsribe to your morals? Oh and while we're on it, what other plans do you have to change society so that we're all like you? News flash ... it will never happen. Good god I never thought I'd see the day when a skydiver tells other skydivers that alcohol should be banned. That surely makes for a boring DZ once the last load of the day has been sent up. 23. I've jumped it at night. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. My pics are too scary to be shared on a public forum. It's my biggest priority for the next comp. It doesn't matter how I finish if I don't look good on camera right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
