Post your Hot Swoop Pic(s)
CanuckInUSA replied to freeflydrew's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Not sure if this really qualifies as a hot swoop pic, but here goes nothing. This picture was taken one week ago, the day before our first CPC event. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Jumped at moab? Please comment on your experience

Beautiful scenery + a friendly outgoing DZO = a good time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Did you forget to add the potential strong winds to the chain of bad events? Get well vibes being sent to the injured jumper. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm sure my family would be happier if I did what they did. Find a mate, settle down, buy a house, make babies, play golf, go shopping and work around the house all day long. Oh and I can't forget to go to Disney on my holidays (wherever the kids will be happiest because to them it's all about the kids). But I chose a different life. My mom knows I BASE jump and my sister even told me that she kind of expected me to do it as well once I started skydiving. I've always been known as kind of the wild man of the family. Actually I'm more concerned about nut cases like James Dobson from Focus on the Family. I've met many of his flock while I lived in Colorado Springs and I can tell you that those people are just not right. They are constantly obsessed with God, Jesus and especially the Devil. That's all they talk about 24/7. Hey I don't care for debating religion tonight. I'm out of here. Flame me if you want (which we know Sinker is already working on a huge novel). It just doesn't matter. Cheers ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't believe in this book of yours and there has been a lot of harm done in the world because of it. Of course it's not the only fictitious book out there in the name of man made religions which has caused harm. Plus it's within my rights here on DZ.COM to call any of these man made religious scripts as fiction. Don't like me for this? No problem. I certainly can deal with some religious dude not liking me because I don't believe in the book they claim is the truth but have absolutely no way to prove that it is what it claims to be. Once again, you can quote anything you want from your book about how I will be rotting in hell because I haven't accept Jesus Christ as my ... LOL ... Lord and Saviour. It's just a man made story created in a time when suppressing fellow humans with fear was the thing to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I agree that taking added risks for the sake of video is not the smartest thing for us to be doing out there. But when the risks are related to pushing the evolution of human flight, and if video is along just to document the event, then that's different. We're all different, we all have different priorities and risk assessment levels. Pass on the jump if it's only because you want to look cool in the video. But do the jump if you think it's within your skill, experience and risk tolerance levels. You got to know that Wright Brothers would have had video had they had anything remotely close to our video technology available to them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Says who? Oh yes that fictitious book you guys keep claiming is the truth but have absolutely no way in hell (pardon the pun) in proving this. It's funny how obsessed some of you guys are. Jump more, bitch less I say. Are we skydivers and BASE jumpers, or are we just a bunch of whiners. Hmmm ... hopefully I'll be able to get a jump or two in tomorrow. I can't. All my 944 skydives and 65 BASE jumps in 2 3/4 years are fun jumps as well, but she's obviously been having some fun. Good for her I say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I aged just as normal whuffos do while I was a whuffo. But ever since I've taken to the skies first as a pilot then a jumper, I find myself getting younger. At least getting younger mentally. Soon I will be a child again. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

article in the paper about swooping

Dang ... now that's some good press for swooping. -
Re: [Liemberg] Gus Wing Hit By Otter At Deland
CanuckInUSA replied to -Barry-'s topic in Safety and Training
So what's your revolutionary idea that's going to save us poor jumpers? Reflective tape on our canopies? Hmmm ... but you've already told us that you're not a pilot nor are you a skydiver. So what makes you an expert on what's visible up there in the sky compared to those of us who actually spend a lot of time in the air both in the cockpit as well as under a canopy? Besides, I think many of us would be elated if adding reflective tape on our canopies would solve all of the deaths and injuries in skydiving. But there will always be something dangerous about testing gravity by trying to push the evolution of human flight. Oh and has it ever occured to you that many skydivers are helping to evolve the age old dream of human flight into a reality. Research the sport and you'll know what I mean. Would you have prevented the Wright Brothers from testing their designs because you thought it wasn't safe? I respect that you don't want to see people hurt. But people are getting messed up all over the place (I'm talking life not just jumping). The price of life is death and death continues to suck for the survivors. AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
CanuckInUSA replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Until I figure out how to rig up a Cypres in one of my BASE rigs, I guess I will continue to make jumps without the use of an AAD. Oh and I can also be seen getting on airplanes without my Cypres turned on when I'm doing hop n' pops as well as solo wingsuit jumps. My Cypres is only there for potential freefall collisions with other skydivers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Please research our sport (this would include jumping and maybe some flight lessons to truly understand it) before you come here with your activism agenda. I think it's safe to say most of us understand and accept the risks we take. We love what we do. We don't need an outsider with no understanding of skydiving and aviation coming here and suggesting/telling us how to do what we already know. More people die each year skiing and snowboarding than they do skydiving. Plus there are a lot of people dying out there in the world due to poverty, disease, war, drug and alcohol abuse, etc, etc, etc. Maybe you should take your activist ideas there? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
You got a death wish or something? If you're serious and on the level about wanting to be a BASE jumper then you'll do it the recommended way. Do a shit load of skydives (hundreds and hundreds of them), learn how to fly a canopy, meet experienced BASE jumpers and ground crew for them, research the sport, research the risks, learn the ropes, get a mentor, then start jumping off of fixed objects. But if you want to be on the fast track to BASE jumping with no consideration to your well being and no respect for the sport, then I'm sure someone can rig up a bed sheet for you. I think the 3rd floor should be high enough to give you your wish. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Colorado CPC Event # 1 Results

I don't know what the PSTers were using, but I'm sure they were even more sophisticated than we were at the CO CPC event. But I don't believe they used lasers. At our comp we had a camera setup to video the entry gates and then judges also eye-balled us. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Grant kicked some serious ass on Saturday. Dave (2nd place) did well and the top seven did well in consistently scoring points in most rounds of the competition. But it was clear who the best was on this day. Back on topic, it would be cool to see the video of Jay's 525 foot swoop (even if he did vert the gates by an inch or two). One on hand it's kind of funny that Russell can go through this latest incident and not have any pain. I'm sort of envious at the moment. But then he can't jump again until he heals and we know he wants to jump again soon. So I'd like to send some "Get well" vibes out to Russell. The US Canopy Grand Prix (a PST event) is going on in California right now as we speak. This weekend they were swooping in Perris Valley (I have no idea as to who did what outside of Jay's bad-ass but I guess verted long swoop) and now the venue is being shifted out to Lake Isabelle in the South Serrias for a Ground Launching blade running event also tied into the US Canopy Grand Prix. How did that go? How many competitors did you guys have? Ours was this weekend as well and I had tons of fun competing in it. I have a lot of hard work ahead of me if I want to crack the season ending top 5 and get invited to the nationals. But I can definitely take way more positives out of this weekend than dwell on the negatives. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well I did 15 jumps this weekend and paid for all of them. Hmmm ... something tells me I'm on the losing end of this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
