  1. Nope ... but there is work to be had in Alberta. It's not the best move as far as skydiving is concerned. I'm leaving an area where multiple turbine DZs exist to move to an area with only seasonal Cessnas. But I'm moving to move back into a house which I own which is predominately paid off and I will be able to live very cheaply while I figure out when to sell this house and what to replace it with. 2. Well this is kind of a first for me. It's not skydiving related so you can save your "beer" remarks. Anyway today is the last day I will be employed at the company I've been working at since last February. I'm quiting this job (it's not the best job so that makes quiting it easier) so that I can move next week from the Vancouver BC area to Calgary AB. I've obviously moved before, but in all of my past moves, I was unemployed at the time of the move. This is the first time I'm actually quiting my job to help facilitate the move. Life is full of unknowns and uncertainties that's for sure. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I'm confused. You're upset with the USA because Syria tortured one of their own citizens? Sure you can be pissed off at Canada (in fact I'm beginning to think that more Americans need to get pissed off at Canada since a sizeable portion of the ever growing by the day middle eastern immigrant population of Canada is very very anti-American and pro Al-Queda ... watch out for Quebecistan). But Syria was the country who tortured their own citizen, not the USA. Blame Canada ... for sure. Blame Syria ... well we know you won't do that. But Blame the USA? ... Huh? I'm confused. 4. Well if you want to put it that way, the Tigers are in many countries now. Don't forget up here in Canada, there is a huge Tamil Tiger's network to go along with a huge network of other questionable organized groups. I could bring up Quebecistan. But I won't. 5. The Tigers are from Sri Lanka not Thailand. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. You talking about my avatar again. It's a cool pic, but I will openly admit that it was taken a split second before I ate it big time into the pond. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Are you talking about LoudDan at last year's CPC Championships? He did well under his Sabre2 making 270 degree turns on it. But it's not like he was smoking the competition in the distance events. In fact it was more the other way around. But he did very well on 9 cell wing when most people were on cross-braced canopies (many with RDS systems). Oh and yes we did have a slight cross/down wind component during that comp. Dan Raymond recently updated the raw footage video of the event and it can be found here. It's an MP4 file, so you will need the appropriate application to view it. I use VLC which seems to work very well on MP4 files. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Say it ain't so. There's a few classics in that collection. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. While I will openly admit that I'm not a big fan of the Catholic Church (or any other man made religion), I have to say that I don't see Catholics (or any other religious group) killing and rioting when insults are hurled their way. WTF is wrong with Muslims? Why are they so intolerant of those different from themselves. They are like spoiled children who go on temper tantrums when they don't get their way. We sure as hell can't kill them. Not only are there billions of them out there, but killing them would amount to genocide. But we sure as hell are having a hard time trying to co-exist with them. 10. Good question. My JVX swooping canopy doesn't have them and I've got plenty of terminal as well as sub-terminal openings on the JVX without too many issues. Now a BASE canopy could be a different story when it comes to the openings. I just don't know enough about BASE canopies (shit I don't know enough about canopy designs period) to know if jumping a BASE canopy without stablizers is a good idea. But once again, I don't have stablizers on my skydiving swooping canopy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Based on what happened a few months ago with the Dannish cartoons, it was only a matter of time before some of these Muslims would riot over the Pope's speach. The Pope was wrong for saying what he did. He should know better ... unless of course he did this on purpose to stir the pot. But Muslims are much too emotional when it comes to their religion. This is getting out of hand and I'm afraid it will get a lot worse (if it ever gets better). They remind me of little children who go ballistic when they don't get their way. 12. Age? Arkansas? Why on earth would he be moving there? Is his job taking him there? Oh I know, don't ask. Is KatieMonster moving too? PS: Happy Birthday to Chad. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Careful with your dieting plans there Jessie. You just may get prematurely blown off of the exit point on the next gust of wind. Then again, maybe that was your plan. BTW: even before your diet, guys like you will always have an advantage over semi-fat asses like myself when it comes to tracking. Tall and lanky, that's where it's at when it comes to tracking and wingsuits. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. There you go playing the victim again. It's all the West's fault. Islam is a peaceful religion? My ass it is. Islam is full of intolerance, racism and hate. But then again, so are many of the Catholics and evangelicals. This Pope has already shown us his true beliefs as he has slammed many Western Countries recently because of some legislation they recently passed which doesn't gel with the teachings of the Catholic church. Man-made religions will be the death of us all, and the ####ed up thing is that many of these religions groups are embracing the end as a good thing. 15. These pictures were taken with a Predator drone aircraft. Predator drones appear to be the best intelligence gather tool the West has in Afghanistan and they do a damn good job at what they are tasked to do compared to the lack of intelligence that can be gathered or counted on from the Afgan locals. Anyway, this funeral took place in a Taliban regional strong hold. If it looks like a dog, barks and wags it's tail like a dog. Then I guess it's a dog. Personally I'm beginning to think that the West needs to get the #### out of the Muslim world and guess what? Muslims need to get the #### out of the Western world. We clearly can't live together. Muslims want to kill all non-believers and well Muslims are pretty ####ed in the head when it comes to their religous beliefs. But then again I think anyone who follows a man-made religion in today's world is pretty ####ed up since we know so much more about physics and the universe we live in. The "Burble" (both new and old Testicle versions) as well as the "Holy Kaboom" are all fiction. Math and physics are reality. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Where the #### did I say 9/11 was justifiable? Do you feel better when you put words into other people's mouth's? WTF? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I saw the pictures on the news the other day before this thread was even started and there were hundreds of these enemy supporters standing there in a close group. They should have bombed them. The western powers (most of the time) play by the rules while the Islamic extremist side purposely breaks the rules of war all the time. Plus the Islamic side breaks the rules on purpose just to infuriate the other side even more. Sometimes I think this is all a game to the Islamic extremists who are in charge over there. They have an endless supply of people willing to die for their cause and they know the western world doesn't have the stomache to fight them in a war of attrition. So what's the solution? The west should get out of Islamic countries and (this isn't going to be very popular) maybe the West should deport anyone who sides with Islamic extremists while living in the western world. WTF was the military thinking? They should have bombed them. This is war ... rules are broken all the time in war. Have we forgotten how nasty WWII was already? Lots of people broke the rules on all sides and they needed to do this if they wanted to win. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I disagree...it's all about bowling. I thought it was all about Shopping Malls, careers, expensive cars and big houses. You know, the stuff that impresses the Jones's. Oh yes and your golf handicap is of utmost importance. Your golf handicap is the difference between landing that lucrative contract and it being given to some other bloke. Bowling? Well that's just for blue collar folks with drinking habits that need to be fulfilled. PS: I'm over due for a trip to Eloy. Hopefully I'll be able to make this season's boogie. 19. Huh? Crossing the border into Israel to kidnap people isn't an act of war? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. 14 engineering students were killed by Marc Lepine at the L'Ecole Polytechnique back in 1989. Oh and Lepine targeted women on his attack as all of his victims were female. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Unless you have a loaded weapon at your side 24/7 and you are able to use it in a split second without hesitation, guns will not always be able to save you when a lunatic decides to attack. Case in point, there was an early morning shooting in Seattle earlier in the year and despite the fact that there was weapons in the house at the time, the victims were not able to defend themselves since their attacker attacked them without warning. So let's not turn this into another "guns are good ... no they aren't" thread other than to say that this is another case where the gun registry failed the people it was supposed to protect and why one asks? That's simple. Criminals aren't going to register their illegal firearms. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Another lunatic (it appears that there may have been more than one gunman) has gone on a rampage and killed at least four people and injured another sixteen in a post secondary college in Montreal Quebec. This is a developing story and may not be over yet. More can be read about it here. While I'm not a big fan of people arming themselves with handguns, but it looks like Canada's gun registry failed the public ... again. What a waste of money since it sure doesn't help save very many lives. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Yes agreed that if people try to follow the "recommended" progression where they slowly work their way into swooping working on the basics first, then they should never find themselves coming out too high or worse being in the corner saying to themselves "shit". It's one of those, do your homework and don't bite off more than you can chew scenarios. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. First off let me welcome you into the wonderful world of swooping where in the blink of an eye, your life can be either taken away from you or permanently altered for the worse. Swooping rocks!!! But there are no short cuts and it is NOT a safe activity. Now that the standard "you may die trying to become a swooper" speech is out of the way ... let's address the issue(s) of using altimeters while swooping. Personally I am a big fan of using altimeters to help me setup my swoops. But to me using a visual digital altimeter is more practical than using an audible. Audibles have their uses and can be used by an experienced swooper. But to rely on something you may not hear (for one reason or another) is not as good as using a tool which you can look at and watch your progression as you get closer and closer to your setup point (thus letting you know what kind of turn you can do once you're at your setup point). Remember what you are trying to do up there during your high pulls while you learn the performance envelop of the canopy(s) you fly. By using a digital altimeter, you can look at your altitude before you make the turn, then you make the turn, let the canopy fully recover by itself and then look again at your altimeter to determine how much altitude was lost (this process is repeated many many many times to build an aggregate). You can't do this performance envelop drill so easily with an audible. Audibles have their purposes, but you'd be much better off using some sort of visual digital altimeter. Finally yes swooping is about the sight picture. But it is not something that can easily be explained and what works for you won't work for me based on the different canopies we jump and how we fly them. Sure the initiation sight picture is important. But what's even more important is to build that "when do I get off of the front risers" sight picture. This one is even harder to explain (I'm guessing mine is in the 250-300 foot range, but it is only a guess). This "when do I get off of the risers" sight picture is something you build over time and hopefully you refined it through a series of "shit I came out too high ... again" jumps as opposed to those "digging in the corner ... again" jumps. Hope this makes sense ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. It took a while, but I finally finished downloading the MP4 file with the ED2K client and I must say Dan, this is the ultimate raw footage competion video. You've set a new standard. Good job. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
