We might be saying the same thing (and I know little about Canadian air regs that differ from the FAA's). But if I was down south and was current. I could rent an airplane and he could pay me 1/2 rental fee and as long as there is an approved landing area and I filed an approved NOTAM with the FAA, he could drop and he doesn't need the USPA's demo rating. Now I'm not saying I would do that. I just don't need to be commecially rated. Of course the regs don't actually address the scenario of the FBO asking me where my passenger is after I've landed. Swooping any canopy is dangerous. It's all about learning your canopy up high before you bring it down low to the ground and keeping things within your skill and experience levels. What are the four forces of flight on a wing? Lift, Weight, Trust and Drag. A larger lesser loaded canopy generates a lot of drag and because of this there is less trust and thus less lift (meaning you don't really swoop all that far before your canopy looses it's lift and it stalls). The canopy's recover arc will be shorter meaning that the turn will need to be a little lower to the ground and it is more important for someone new to swooping the canopy to keep one's turns small on such an under loaded canopy. But it is also equally very important for new swoopers to be learning on these larger under loaded canopies. Because you will make mistakes and the larger canopy will save you. They saved me. I started swooping on a Sabre2 190 (1.1:1 wingloading) and it saved my rear end at least once and then I have another 3-4 Sabre2 170 saves. Learn on the larger canopies before you fly the small ones. It's the pilot not the wing. There's video somewhere out on the net of Scott Miller swooping a Sabre 230 or something like that. It's pretty impressive. He does a 270 a gets a good 200 feet maybe more it's been a while since I've seen it. So an experienced pilot like Scott can really show you what the canopy can do. But for people starting out it's really important to learn your canopy up high before you bring it down low to the ground and keep your turns small. Anyone who's ever worked in the USA under a TN-1 work visa will tell you (I hope Remi's listening as he is in the US under a TN-1) that as long as you're qualified for the job(s) getting that visa for the first few years will be no problem at all. But it is a temporary work visa. It's not the ticket into the USA. I knew this before I even moved to the country. I knew that if I wanted to stay that I would need some other type of visa. Anyway after a few years of TN-1 employment, the INS all of a sudden starts becoming dicks to you (9/11 doesn't help). Well what do you think happened to me? Dude I own a house in Calgary with a very small debt. I can come back here and probably find a good well paying job and live for cheap. I'm giving up good jumping in the USA to live up here for cheap and jump part time. I can easily make another attempt of obtaining US employment and obtaining new TN-1 work visas. So far I've played by the rules. But if I ever do decide to head back down to the states to work, I'm not going to move all my stuff down there like I did the first time. It's just too damn expensive. So it makes more economical sense for me to live in Canada (go figure with our messed up socialist society) and play part time in the USA. I got 8 years out of numerous TN-1 work visas (and paid off ... well almost ... a large mortgage in the process). That's pretty good for a temporary work visa. I knew I was coming back to Canada. In the USA the pilot in command of this flight needs to file a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) with the FAA and obviously have it approved prior to conducting off DZ parachute operations. Vietnam (right or wrong) wouldn't not have been a failure if the media was not broadcasting nightly news stories to the American public. The first Gulf War would have ended in Sadam's demise had the media not been there to report on the daily progress. And now this Iraq conflict (right or wrong) as well as Afghanistan (absolutely the right war to be fighting) would not be as controversial if the media was not there. You guys should see what the left-leaning media is doing up here in Canuck'land in reference to the Afghanistan conflict. They open each night on the news saying "are we winning the war, have we lost focus, when will we bring our troops home". So much so that now the spineless, politicially correct lemmings (which resemble Canadians) are all up in arms that Canadian soldiers (some of whom happen to be parents) have died in Afghanistan. Imagine that. A soldier dying on the battle field. It's a foreign concept to the spineless, politicially correct lemmings (who resemble Canadians) up here.
