  1. My bad ... that's what I meant CU in the Big XII. You people are supposed to be able to read my mind. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I'm relatively new the BASE (so take what I have to say with a grain of salt), and I do agree with many of the things you have said. However there is one thing that is kind of hard for the older more seasoned people to take and that it that the future of this sport is with the new blood. The future is with the young people. Hopefully the young people build the proper respect for this sport, but it is their destiny to take it where they wish to take it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I agree, and would certainly vote in favour of abolishing the monarchy in Canada. LOL ... I knew in time I would find something that we can agree on. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I seemed to have lost a lot of my interest in pro football, but am very much into what's going on in NCAA Division 1A Football. In the past, I've been to a number of Big Ten games out of Folsom Field in Boulder CO and would love to attend a game in an SEC or ACC stadium one day. I guess you could say I like the pagentry, the big bands, the cheerleaders and youthful exhuberance of the "drunken" student body at an NCAA Division 1A Football game. But I have a question about the Rankings ... I know a team's record and strength/weakness of the respective team schedules has some bearing on how the teams are ranked, but does the score of a game get factored into the rankings. Let's say Team "A" ranks ahead of Team "B" but Team "B" beats Team "A" when they play against each other. If Team "B" wins big, does this help their rankings or is the score irrelevant? I'm not sure who I want to see in the big game this year (since the team I like to cheer for, the CU Buffs is having a brutal year), but all I can hope for is that the two teams in the National Championship game are worthy of their #1 and #2 status when they play. 5. As a former Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder, the current team and the team I used to go watch do not resemble each other at all (except for the uniforms). It will be interesting to see how the Denver fans react now that their team isn't as good as it used to be. If they are like Broncos fans, then the Avs will be fine even in tough times. But if they only support a winning team, well then the Avs will be in trouble. Time will tell... Go Habs ... and yes I still kind of sort of still cheer for the Avs even though I feel very distanced from the team since the lockout year (my last year was the one before the lock out) and of course not living in CO also makes it hard to stay connected to the team. PS: I understand the front range is getting some snow today. The media is painting it as a massive blizzard, but when they show pictures I see snow on the sides of the roads, but the major roads appear clear of the white stuff. Is the storm not all that bad, or am I just not seeing the whole story? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. I guess I should stop killing kittens then. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Well that's no surpise as we know LIEberal, NDP and Bloc supporters in Ontario and Quebec have been watering down the "Get tough on crime" legislation. It's okay to be a criminal in Canada just as long as you vote for the LIEberal party of Canada as they will be you champion in getting you that "get of of jail for free card" for all the crimes you commit. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. The news article I saw did not mention what charges we was arrested under. So I don't know what's going on there. So it's okay for a teacher to feel up a 15 year old female student? If this was a fellow student who felt up this girl, then I would agree that it shouldn't be an issue. This was a grown man in a position of authority and trust (he's a school teacher for crying out loud). I'm sorry but grown men who happen to be teachers are only asking for trouble by getting involved with their students. It's really not that difficult. If you don't want to do time, don't do the crime. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. So you're agreeing with the NY judge then that it's okay to exile this sex offender? He's your own damn citizen who commited this crime in your own country. We in Canada want to be friends with you Yanks, but sometimes your selfishness get's in the way of this. Take your own trash back and put him in your own prisons. He commit a crime in your country and he's one of you. We don't want US criminals up here only because you can't deal with your own scum. Un####ing Believable ... PS: By the way Mr Watson was arresting today as he tried to cross back into Canada after meeting one of his beloved NY parol board contacts. I'm not sure where the Canadian authorities are going with this scum bag, but if they have any balls he will be right back in a NY State prison where he belongs. He's your trash, he molested your own people, you deal with him. He's not wanted here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. This whole issue is the USA's loss and Canada's gain since we're not afraid to spend money on Stem Cell research (we are attracting the best of the best in this field from around the world into our research institutions) while your "Bible Thumping" GWB prez sits back and claims how immoral Stem Cell research is. It's refreshing to know that the most technologically advance society has decided to set the clock back on scientific research and why? Because their leader is a religious zealot. The USA needs new blood on both sides of your political fence as both of your parties stink. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Did he choose jail? Almost ... he is living in socialist Ontario. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. You people are not going to believe this. US Citizen Malcolm Watson 35, a former teacher, was convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old female student, and a New York state judge gave him the choice between exile in Canada or time behind bars. Think about it for a minute. Who has ever heard of anything like this? It has got to be unprecedented. Cheektowaga town judge Thomas Kolbert actually gave the sex offender a choice -- Canada or jail in New York state. Watson chose Canada. What kind of sick game is that? Time will tell if there will be an immigration hearing and if this man will be sent back to where he committed his crimes (make no mistake, the Canadian government is all over this. They had representatives in the courthouse yesterday and are in contact with court officials), but one Canadian border patrol insider said there was little they could do legally to stop him when he returned to Canada after his sentencing. He has a legal residence in Ontario and that is where he was returning to. This whole issue is an insult to the country and a middle finger to what this NY State judge thinks of us. Some of us have one thing to say to him: Take your garbage back because it stinks. More can be read about this story here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Of course I am joking when I say that it is Jaap's site. I only do this to bring him out of the wood work. And as I said, damned if you do and damned if you don't wear a helmet at that site. It is a fun jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. It's not how much you make, it's how much you keep after your expenses. With that in mind, while I understand that some real estate markets make home ownership difficult (ie: needing a larger salary just to get into the market), I voted for anyone who makes 75k in USD and above as a good salary in todays world. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Why don't you keep the helmet inside the stash bag until you are ready to gear up? There's a certain less-than-legal span that I've not so recently jumped where myself and the other people who I jumped it with all agreed that while we were doing our best to be good stealthy BASE jumpers at this site, there is a time when you are exposed to car traffic just as we're about to jump and we thought wearing helmets would raise suspicion that we were BASE jumpers using this span. But you can make the argument that we do look like potential suicidal people when we're on the other side of the rail prior to jumping without helmets. With helmets we look like BASE jumpers, without out them we are suicidal. What can I say you can't win either way. But we tried to use this site responsibly and to my knowledge it's not a hot site. While I know he will deny it, for arguments sake it's pretty much Jaap's site so he can tell you more about it if he wishes. It's a fun jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Hey Nick are you on a Hybrid now when you did your bomber 665 foot swoop or are you on a full sail material canopy? Part of me wishes I went with the Hybrid and/or full sail material version of a JVX instead of picking up Mark's old 87. But the 87 is still ultra fun to fly and I have tons to learn about it (make no mistake it's still a very very fast canopy for someone like myself). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. In time we will learn more. But I'm wondering if the deceased was a regular BASE jumper or a skydiver making one of their first BASE jumps. I only bring this up because there appears to be a lax attitude by many towards the dangers of BASE during events such as Bridge Day and there is likely not enough BASE specific training to those who look to do their first BASE jumps at such events. BSBD and condolences to those who cared about the deceased. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Every day is Bridge Day in Twin Falls Idaho. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. I've worn a helmet on virtually every legal jump I have made and often left the helmet at home on the less-than legal jumps (not that I've made that many less than legal jumps). Why? Well I always want to side on the side of safety when it comes to jumping. But wearing a helmet does raise some suspicion on those less than legal jumps. Kind of like "excuse me sir, why are you wearing a helmet in my hotel staircase and what's in that funny looking backpack of yours?". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. This isn't news I wanted to read on a Saturday morning. Josh was a great friend to me when I was living in CO and I know he had many many friends in CO who will miss him dearly. Truly a sad day for the CO jumping community. BSBD Josh ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I second that. It's likely only doable by those who are ultra experienced and ultra current. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. If you can make the Sebastien skills camp, then for sure it would be a great place to be for an up and coming canopy pilot (I am still holding out hope that I can make it out there a few days before the PST comp). But if not and you do know Stuart Shoenfeld (sp?) and are able to swing it with him, he might be a good person to guide you. Also, another alternative would be to head down to Eloy or Perris Valley and hire one of their respective canopy control coaches (who should also be able to give you excellent canopy control coaching). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. When I started this thread I never intended it to become a PD versus Dadeleus thing-a-ma-bob. I just wanted to spread the word about what Nick did (which in my pea sized brain is pretty bad-ass no matter what canopy he choose to fly). In fact all one needs to do is watch Nick throw down some freestyle moves to know how good he is and how good he will become in the years to come. Instead of comparing Velos to JVXs maybe some of you guys should be comparing some of the new PST blood to the old blood. The old blood is still very talented, but there are a number of new faces who are here to stay (well maybe not me, but new guys like Nick, John Z and of course many many others). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. I haven't seen anyone mention this here yet, but I recieved an email the other day which told of Nick Batch swooping 665 feet during competition last month in Germany. Here's the content of the email I recieved: Dang Nick how did you do? and do it at sea level (or close enough to sea level). I have a long way to go before I can even dream of swooping that far. Kudos for Nick though and I hope to see him (and others) at a swoop comp next season. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. Don't be showing up at a border asking an INS or worse Customs official about what visa you need for work. I'm afraid it doesn't work that way and the agent(s) may prevent you from entering the country if they believe you're entering it to go job hunting. When you ask to speak to an INS agent at a border crossing about work visas, you better already have your job offer, basic knowledge of what visa you're applying for and of course all your paper work must be in order. So, if you don't know exactly what sort of work visa you may qualify for ahead of time, check out
