Once again, some of us see more than one party at fault in this conflict. Hezbollah is guilty on so many fronts for what they do. But they are there to protect their followers. The IDF is guilty on so many fronts for what they do. But they are there to protect their followers. This latest war was a mistake. Israel under estimated Hezbollah's strength and resolve and by choosing to (predominately) attack by the air, they never did remove the Hezbollah fighters from the ground. All Israel did was destroy Lebanon's infrastructure, destroy some property, destroy some civilian lives and put many civilans more at risk. And for what? What did Israel gain? But it's not all Israel's fault. Hezbollah continues to snub their noses at the international community and continue to wage war when they want to. Both Israel and Hezbollah are equally at fault for the humanitarian crisis Lebanon now finds itself in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Darius the problem is, is that you're only willing to believe that one side is at fault in this war whereas some of us see both sides as the problem. What's the solution you would like to see? For Israel to cease to exist? For the Jewish race to be wipped off of the planet? Why all the hatred? If Muslim's can't co-exist with non-Muslims, then maybe it's time that Muslims be segregated from the rest of the world. You can have your Muslim countries and I promise we won't interfere with their development as religious regimes. But you can't have your cake and eat it at the same time. If the Muslims of the world can't prove to us that you're willing to live with the rest of us, then maybe it's time that all Muslims be expelled from western countries and sent back home to their countries of origin. Kind of a radical solution wouldn't you say? Almost as radical as trying to exterminate and entire race of people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

First impressions of the Spectre 135 - Interesting Openings
CanuckInUSA replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
Go back and read what Karen wrote. It was very good practical advice from someone who has good experience and has seen a few things in this sport. Remember she's not saying that you can't land your 135. She's talking about the "what if" scenario. "What if" happens more often than you'd expect in this sport. Now that this is done ... Spectres are great all around canopies and yes they can be snivelly. But that is good if you're looking for soft openings and aren't worried about the slightly longer opening altitudes. It's got great on heading performance and isn't known for wanting to twist up. I use a Spectre 150 when I do wingsuit jumps, often pull in a track and lose only about 400 feet vertically on my openings and hardly ever experience off heading openings let alone line twists. It's a great canopy for you to be learning on. It just would have been better if you had a 150 instead of a 135. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

I killed numerous kittens because our female species has decided to no longer give me the time of day. You happy now? I know my one-eyed snake was happy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
What Should I Know About a Cross Country?
CanuckInUSA replied to JENNR8R's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't agree with this advice. You are potentially robbing yourself of so much performance from your canopy by only assuming it will make it back in one mode of flight. If you've got a strong tail wind, then yes flying in brakes is a good way to make it back. But flying one's rears can increase your glide a lot. Instead of being a passenger (continue to fly with your brakes stowed), why not be a pilot and use all of the tools available to get back. This next comment is not directed at MotherGoose, but people wouldn't be so afraid of Cross-Country jumps if they spent more time flying their canopies and less time worrying about getting back. Get up there and pull high more often and learn what sort of range your canopy has. High pulls are not to be feared and they are a great way to not only learn more about your canopy but they are a great way to enjoy the incredible view from up there. Well we're going to have to have a "going away" get together sometime soon since we'll both be leaving BC (I'm out of here sometime in mid to late September). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Parachutes Still OK for U.S. Travel
CanuckInUSA replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not looking forward to my trip next week. I'm off to Denver (from Vancouver BC) Wednesday evening hoping to bring my rig with me. But I'm supposed to connect through Las Vegas (2 hours between flights) and I'm going to get fucked if my plane is late leaving Vancouver. What will be worse? Missing my connection because the system is all backed up? Or not being allowed to carry on my rig and having it lost in the Vegas connection. I should just stay home. Just trying to stir the pot when I encounter posts which stereotype certain nationalities and/or races. Not all Canadians and Mexicans have a disdain for the States. But there are enough people who are sick of the arrogance of some yanks. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well what do you expect? With your "America is the best and fuck the rest of the world" attitude, of course YOU are going to encounter people who don't like people like ... YOU. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You sure you're not single? He's an attractive, smart young woman who knows when it's important to dress up and when it's not. I wish more of you could rub off on some of the peeps up here in Vancouver. To some of these people. fashion is everything. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So the truth comes out. As long as the Islamic world continues to paint themselves as victims, then that gives them the right to wage violence on all those who do not follow the Muslim faith. What's that which is written in your Holy Ka-boom? Death to the infidel? Is this your way on enacting justice? To kill all those who do not believe in the same shit that you believe in? I said it before and I'll say it again. All you people who follow man-made religions (be it Christians, Jews and Muslims) are pretty ####ed up in the head. Skydiving has been a blessing and a curse to my life.

Yes I know and you're not going to like it when I say that I've driven by it on several occasions on my way to or from Snohomish, Kapowsin and Molalla. Maybe I can do Snohomish on one day and hit Mt Vernon on the way home. Time will tell ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Say it ain't so. There's only a couple of weeks left in the competitive swooping season. But if I play my cards right, I should be able to find at least one more free weekend (likely in Sept before I move again in Oct) to come down and visit you folks in Snohomish and do some freeflying. Is there a safety meeting going on? Oh yah ... and I'm missing out. For the record, safety meetings and high performance canopy flight (my passion in this sport) do not mix. So I try to defer all of my meetings until the end of the day. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

This is not a wingloading and/or jump numbers issue. It's an issue about having swoopers and non-swoopers sharing the same landing area at the same time and when this happens, we know that we can only roll the dice so many times before our number comes up. Personally I feel that swoopers and non-swoopers shouldn't be sharing the same concurrent landing area. But unless the DZ has the luxury of having multiple landing areas, swoopers and non-swoopers will continue to roll the dice. I was at an Otter boogie this weekend at a (fun) DZ that doesn't normally jump such a big airplane and I made a point to observe how the swooping and non-swooping traffic co-existed with each other and I can tell you it looked scary at times. I took myself out of danger by pulling high (we were allowed to pull high at this boogie) and landed last. But unless the swoopers have a separate landing area and sequence themselves landing, having swoopers and non-swoopers landing at the same time on the same landing pitch is just rolling the dice. Shit has a way of happening and it can happen to anyone of us. If people do insist on swooping on normal loads, they should do themselves and everyone else on the load a favor by observing who gets on the airplane, what kind of canopy are they likely to be jumping, what kind of jump are they doing and where will they fit into the landing pattern compared to you. Fly a predictable pattern, keep your eyes open and know when to abort the swoop. We can't always have our cake and eat it at the same time ...
