High: I'm still here Low: Hard to believe it's been 5 years since we lost our friend Holly Kish (who started this thread) PS: It's snowing for me today where I live, so winter is definitely not over. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I found that (assuming you live in a dry climate like I do) your grass stops growing when you do not water it and then there is no need to buy a huge honking tractor mower. The again I don't own a McMansion, only a McHouse. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Haha I can't let you Americans have all the fun with your politicians. We have some doozies up here in Canuckistan. One in particular Stephan Dion leader of the Liberal Party of Canada who stands up in the "House of Commons" telling people how outraged he is with the current government and that he will put an end to this bad government, and then he sits down and abstains from all votes ensuring that proposed legislation passes. Plus his right hand man Michael Ignatief (who finished 2nd to Dion at the last Liberal leadership conventional and is still bitter) definitely has his knifes sharpened ready for a little back stabbing. Anyway ... News just in ... the Liberals have adopted a new theme song that is played in their daily caucus meetings. Rumor has it that it was Michael Ignatief who came up with the idea when the "Pouty Professor" (Stephan Dion) was questioned about his poor leadership qualities. "Fake It" - by Seether. It is a big hit with all the backbenchers who haven't been allowed to vote in the "House of Commons" for many months now because Dion is afraid of losing an election and losing his job as leader of the Liberals. I am surprised nobody has posted this yet. What people are off skydiving this weekend? Damn I need to get my reserve repacked now that I am coming out of my winter hibernation. LOL Anyway ... At least 12 people have been killed and 160 wounded in an explosion at a mosque in southern Iran. More can be read about it here. There are a few people up here in Canuckistan who are talking as if this is some tragic accident where poor innocent people have been taken away from us. The Iranian authorities are saying: "The incident could have happened as a result of negligence. A while ago at this site there was an exhibition commemorating the [1980-1988] Iran-Iraq war". LOL who stores live munitions at their war museums? I guess the Iranians do? But ... I am thinking that there is a chance that someone was in some back room of this mosque building something they should not have been building. Yes I know how horrible of me to be thinking such thoughts. I guess I need to go back to my "politicially correct wussy chimp" social engineering seminars up here in Canuckinstan where we learn that "USA==Pure Evil" and "Iran==Good". ROFLMAO Enjoy ... Can someone refresh my memory here. Is the Cypres2 on 4 year cycles for replacing the batteries? Also does anyone know the turn around time for getting new batteries? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I think one of the issues of local canopy coaching is that we lack a specific curriculum when it comes to coaching for potential canopy piloting coaches. I would love to see the Germains and the Millers provided more coaching to the canopy pilots so they can become local canopy control coaches instead of teaching the people directly. This way we can get more help out to more people. I know people have talked in the past about bringing in a canopy coaching rating to the USPA (and hopefully other governing organizations), but unless I am mistaken we are not there yet. I have no problem talking to people locally about what I have learned in regards to canopy piloting, but I don't think I should be charging people a fee since I have never been formally trained (at least not yet) as a canopy control coach. No harm done agent_lead ... there are a number of people in the skydiving world who have achieved great success with their jumping careers and I wish you luck pursuing your goals. Now can anyone supply me with some "super duper swooping pills" so that I can beat those stinking Florida based Canadians in August? haha ... I better just go there (assuming I am even there) with the goal of "still standing on my own two feet at the end of the weekend" and anything beyond that is just a bonus. Maybe this is because AggieDave, myself and others had a goal and we decided to dedicate jumps towards canopy control to obtain these goals? You know the vast majority of my last 900 jumps are jumps dedicated towards canopy control (hop n' pops and high pulls). With a lot of hardwork, people can achieve their goals. In the summer of 2004 I attended my first PST event (as a spectator) and thought to myself "hey I wonder if I could make it to the PST before I get too old at this". I immediately scheduled some canopy control coaching and I was lucky that I had the time and the money to train full time as a competive swooper in the summer of 2005. In the summer of 2006 I competed at two different PST events and while I finished near the bottom of the standings, I feel that I did not embarass myself (too much). There is no way in hell my skills can be compared to those who are at the top of the PST, but I did manage to close the gap between their skills and mine. There is nothing wrong with people chasing their goals, just as long as they chase them responsibly. I have no problem with an up and coming canopy pilot wanting to become a swooper, they just need to dedicate jumps towards the discipline and approach it in a responsible manner (and know that unless they are consistently winning PST events, there is always someone out there who is better than they are). I am not current right now. But if I can look back to the summer of 2007 when I also came back from a long layoff, I could still safely swoop (knock on wood we know if Tonto can crash anyone of us can crash). But I have a lot of hard work ahead of me if I want to get back to where I was at the end of the summer of 2006 and finishing ahead of the Florida based Canadians in 2008 for me is more a dream than it is a reality. But it is still a goal I can shoot for, as long as I shoot for it responsibly. PS: my desire to dedicate jumps towards canopy control can also be traced back to a freefly jump I made one day where I came close to taking out someone else on a head down jump and at that time I decided to dial back my freeflying goals and become a better canopy pilot first and then I got bit by the swooping bug. Likewise (different Nats of course). Assuming I can get current again (dang it's snowing today in Cowtown) I want to attend the Canadian Nationals which if I am not mistake is being held at Skydive Burnaby in Ontario the first weekend of August? (can someone verify this). Of course finishing ahead of the Florida based Canadians will be a feat in itself. But it would still be fun to be there. IMHO, most lines twists are caused by bad body position (like dipping a shoulder) or asymmetrical canopy openings (poor pack job). When I swoop I am under a small highly loaded canopy and when I BASE Jump I am under a lightly loaded canopy. Both canopies can spin up on me if I have bad body position or sloppy packing. BTW, you can be a sloppy packer, just make sure both sides of the canopy are packed equally sloppy so that it opens symmetrically. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It was posted to get a reaction from the Left who view Mr Heston as some evil radical. I don't agree with everything Mr Heston stood for, but I found it interesting to hear that he supported MLK's views on human rights just as I was surprised to hear that George Walker Bush and Barack Obama are related to each other. Of course the Heston/MLK ties tells us that Charlton Heston wasn't that bad of a man and the Bush/Obama ties tells us that US politics is really just a twisted psuedo monarchy disguised as a democracy. Life is like a box of chocolates ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am sure many of us have been thinking the same thing. Oh and while Mr Heston has his right wing followers, how many people know that he marched along side and in support of Martin Luther King JR. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Ignore the number of jumps and all that. This is a very old series of pictures going back to the late Jeff Sands DZO era (summer of 2003 if I am not mistaken). Dan-o had way more jumps that what is listed on this page. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Calculating your optimal wingloading
CanuckInUSA replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hmmm ... did I say anything about anyone jumping a specific canopy? No I just thought it was a good post by Dave and last night in my drunken stupor I felt like supporting what he wrote. Nothing more, nothing less. Carry on, there is nothing to see here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Blue Skies to our friend Daniel (Dan-o) Braafhart who was killed today along with his tandem passenger while attempting to land their canopy at Mile-Hi Skydiving in Longmont Colorado. Dan-o was a very well liked person at Mile-Hi Skydiving and he was known as a very generous person who would give his time and his money to those who needed help. He will be missed by many. His family (including his three sons who also jump), his friends and all his skydiving and non-skydiving work colleagues. Blue Skies ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Practice making your turns up high and use your rear risers to help you plane out. Build the muscle memory to the point where reaching for your rears become 2nd nature. At some point in time once it is 2nd nature you will be ready to do it on the deck. But always be ready to use you toggles to prevent yourself from pancaking. Losing interest in US presidential race
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
I find myself losing interest in the US presidential race and I think there are several factors. 1) I am not an America citizen. 2) I think the 3+1 people still in the running are not all that good for the job. 3) The media is annoying with their minute by minute coverage. I can't be alone here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
