  1. WHEW!! When I first saw the 'thread subject', I was gonna recommend a shot of penicillin. I, cough-cough, hack-hack, had that same bug last Friday - 3 jumps later and I felt great. Is this a relapse I feel coming on? Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  2. Well, I hope you get it sold, because my mouth drools to think about how many jump tix 22k would buy!! Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.

  4. Yep. After a year and a half of PLFing, I now stand them all up since Phree videoed a few. No one could convince me I wasn't completing my flare, but the video proved I was only getting the toggles about halfway down. I have the same tendency, to be a bit lazy in my flare. As I'm screaming along, I'm thinking, flare, flare flare...and end up running like a mad man...I have mastered the running landing . Then, I notice in my peripheral (sp?) vision that I only have my toggles half, or a little better than half way down. Then comes some comment by another jumper watching about not getting as much exercise if I would use the last bit of brake line . 5. Maybe I'm weird, but I like and appreciate the differences in the cities of tejas. I think SA is a beautiful city with strongs ties to the tx/mx history. Dallas (and Houston) is the metropolis that blows away the misconceptions of 'outsiders' views of our state. El Paso/McAllen and Mexico are pretty much integrated. Austin is awesome for it's laid back, hippie atmosphere (and by gosh, they have a statue of Stevie Ray). Amarillo....well hey, you can get a 72 oz steak in the most gaudy, texas-tacky restaruant in the world. Fredericksberg, two food groups, german beer and weinerschneitzel, baby. Luckenbach, to hang out with Willie, Waylon and the boys. Shiner, Tx......ya know. Odessa and Lubbock have to be the two most isolated cities I've ever seen, and any small town in west texas...you can't see that many stars in a clear sky anywhere. But there are idiots in ANY of those places, NOT just east tx. And don't flame La, because I like any state that gives us jambalya, ettoueffe (?), and especially....TABASCO. Vive la difference....
  6. I missed the 2 p.m. deadline Deuce, but best wishes. I'll send good vibes about you to the interviewer... (that's my concentration face, by the way). Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  7. I've lived in and around Dallas most of my adult life. How long did you live there? I've lived other places around the state, and visited every major city (and quite a few minor ones too) more than a few times. My observation, Dallas has nice folks, and Dallas has snobs...just like every other city. Dallas has an art scene, maybe not as great as other cities, but decent all the same. Name something that you can do in Houston, or any other city, that you can't in Dallas (other than a shorter drive to the ocean water and climb a 15k mountain). I basically think that Dallas is as good as any other place I've ever visited/lived. Other than these stupid hot summers, I like it. What experience did you have to make you dislike it so much? Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  8. ...Dallas is a very cool place to live and visit, calling it crap (not u Paula) means you haven't spent enough time here. I've been across 'the River', and it's a whole different world - but I know some very cool Oklahomians...Austin, I would have to admit, is a cool place. Would move there in a heartbeat. But you're missing the bigger picture here, the STATE of Tx is being flamed here, not just one city. As a texan, I love TX as a state, even Houston.... (you're just jealous of our pro sports teams, like the LAST place/85 million dollar payroll Rangers ). Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.

    question

I'm not the most experienced jumper here, but generally what I do is this: I have the pattern that I plan to fly before I go up. I usually try to keep an eye on the first guy down, but I always check the indicators for myself. If the winds are strong, I make the pattern smaller, if the winds are light, I make it a bit longer. I tend to land away from traffic (I need the exercise anyway
  10. That's Dallas. Doesn't even count as Texas. Why does Dallas not count as TX, out of curiosity? Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.

  12. It is hard to find direction a lot of times. First, you should know (by these other posts, I think you do), that you are not alone. We all go through these periods, and sometimes they last a long time, and aren't easy to see through. I myself just went through my 'mid-life' crisis at 31. I felt as though I was staying with the career I had for the sole purpose of monetary security, and that I made a lot of decisions based on what my family expected. I love my family, they have supported me through more than I can post here, but the bottom line is, you have to make decisions for YOURSELF, not for anyone else. That is how I decided to start living - I am my own person, with my own future, and that is what I have to think about when I make decisions. When trying to find a career the best advice I can give, like others, is to find something that you really enjoy doing, then do it. You might have a bunch of different jobs, over several years trying to figure out what it is you love to do, but nothing will allow to know if it is something you love to do better than on the job training. No matter what you do for a career, it can become mundane, and become just a job. I fell in love with my new career, because it is ALWAYS a challenge, and nothing charges me more, and makes me feel more fulfilled in a career than learning something new, through hard work, bad decisions and good decisions - it's all a learning experience, and it's a blast. Any time I think I know a lot, I meet someone who knows a lot more, or I read about new technology, and that makes what I do interesting and fresh. But life isn't about a career. Love your career, but the best 'quote' I can give you about work is this, "No person has ever been on their death-bed and said to their loved ones - I sure wish I would have spent more of my life working." DON"T MARRY YOUR CAREER. I go to work, I love being there, I try to learn what I can while I'm there and sometimes when I'm at home - but when I leave at the end of the day/week, THAT IS ALL THAT MY WORK GETS FROM ME. It is very sobering to think about the decisions that lie ahead..."what if I decide to do this instead of that, or that instead of this." Bottom line, you don't know the future, and you never will, no matter how hard you try to plan for it. You are going to make some bad decisions through life, don't be afraid to make them, just know it's going to happen. But when you realize that you made a bad decision, learn from it, fix it if it is something that can be fixed, then move on. No one's future is known, "plan for the future, but live like there's no tomorrow." Most people interpret that line incorrectly - living isn't just about which party to go to next, or who to hook up with next, or what sort of self-destructive behavior can I get involved with. Life, and experiencing life is much deeper than all that. Look and appreciate the beauty around you, make deep friendships, have deep relationships, be the best person you can be. I could go on, but I just want to say that I relate, and that you are not alone. Also, skydive as much as you can afford....

    Virus Help

What ver of Windows are you using? You might try booting into DOS, and navigating your way into the directory and deleting the infected file. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.

    Virus Help

Try a scan and clean online at: http://housecall.antivirus.com It's a free, online virus scan. I use it at work from time to time. It is done online, so if you use dial-up, it might take a while. There are some other ways to get at it, but try the easy route first. It doesn't sound too malicious, just annoying. DZ Tunes

I like to listen to something really 'loud' on the way to the dz to get wired. I listen to stuff like Korn, P.O.D., Linkin Park. Maybe some Crytsal Method, Paul Oakenfold etc. The trip home, AFTER all day at the dz is most likely to be something a little more calm as I try to unwind. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  16. Please, please please do that. The last time I was at "my" dz, I was turned down 6 different times (from several different people, including the L/O) I was not given a reason, or an alternative, and not once was I "allowed" to participate. I did one solo, and left. Had someone decided to hook up with me, it would have been a great day - as it was, I left feeling like I was a) unwanted, b) incapable and c) ignored. Ciels and Pinks- Michele I've felt like that more than once myself. I think that trying to match low timers up with a mentor is an awesome idea. 19. Been there. I went through AFF, and that was the level I repeated as well. I even have raw video from one of my repeats to try and see what I was doing wrong. Today, I watch it and laugh, because as many have suggested, I can tell without a doubt that my problem was relaxing. I'm alot like you in that I really focus on my performance, and tend to get tense (and also hard on myself if I didn't perform up to what I thought I should). I think that you have gotten the point from the previous advice of others.... RELAX and have fun Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.

  21. [Dr. Evil Voice] No hijacking my thread. Throw me a freakin bone here. Start your own thread or I will throw you in the room with the sharks with the freakin laser beams on top of their freakin heads. [/Dr. Evil Voice] I meant to say.... Sorry about that, sorry. I will drop the other subject....NOW!.....THUD!!!!!!!!! OOOOOWWWW, it fell on my foot...that's gonna leave a mark . BTW nws01, your new 'quote', I thought was one of the funniest lines from the movie. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  22. Yes I am, Fellowship o The Rings is out on DVD next week. The Two Towers will be out in December. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
  23. I think you are mistaking weight with atheletic condition. Jumbo listed nothing of his height compared to weight. He did mention that he is a solid 300 lbs. Should we assume that 'solid' means 'good muscular build' or otherwise? So ,many people interpret someone's weight as 'fat', when that may not be the case. By the 'standards' of height and weight charts, based on those two factors alone, most heaveyweight body builders would be labeled as fat/overweight. Could be, jumbo (I don't know) is 6 foot 10 inches, 310 pounds, and less than 10 percent body fat, and in better physical condition than anyone posting here. I'm not trying to slam, I just think that an unfair assumption has been made. Only jumbo can make this clear. Besides, if it is his dream to skydive, and he is in good physical condition (and just because he weighs 300 lbs doesn't automatically mean he isn't), he needs to go for it. He sure is willing and determined to do his part to make it happen. You go Jumbo! Start skydiving, and become an Anvil Brother! 24. My suggestion is to focus on the jump at hand, and passing it. I myself had a bit of a problem with 'porpoise-ing' on my level three. That's basically when you become rigid, instead of relaxed, and you sort of rock back and forth (head to toe) like a boat in wavey water. Concentrate on relaxing, and having fun. I know for me, it felt strange not to have a JM hanging on my harness. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours.
