It seems that there's orgaised crime in the virtual world. A bunch of folks have been robbed in cyberspace. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3138456.stm David

Chmn of Joint Chiefs opinion of Gen Clarke & his flip flops
kiltboy replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
Clark also wanted General Sir Mike Jackson to forcibly remove the russians from the airport using the British 5 Airborne Bde. Mike Jackson refused to do so claiming that he wasn't about to start WW3. Mike Jackson still has his job. David -
Two other fun ones are Diplomacy and Junta. Diplomacy does involve making alliances and screwing people over as no dice rolling is involved. Junta is set in a banana republic with el presidente that dolls out the money. Aim of the game is to get as much cash as possible but you can form alliances assasinate other players, have revolutions etc. to become el presidente. Then you screw the alliance over, don't give them money and assasinate them until they giet pissed and the cycle starts again. All good clean fun. David

He wanted General Sir Mike Jackson to take the airport from the Russians during that conflict. Mike jackson's reply, "I'm not about to start WW3 for you". The para's never took the airport and Gen Clark was fired not long after. David

Hi Kev, I'll disagree to an extent with the explanation you've given. I agree that the initial rebellion did not take religion as a factor but I do think that the current troubles in Ireland have a lot to do with religious bigotry I think religion played a part due to the way religion was viewed in Britain in the 1600s and the influx of presbyterians at that time. The religion of the monarchy was given prominence during the times and nobles would convert to gain favour and show their new faith by vigorously suppressing the other religion. The British monarch and the fire and brimstone Scottish Presbyterians had an effect that is still commemortated in N.Ireland and the marching season (which I hate). Fast forward to Rev Ian Paisley and you've got a similar faith/religion based political agenda. NOTE I do not think that the political goals are because of the religion but that religious intollerance/suspicion lead to the division of the population. I attached a link (granted it's the BBC and not a great historical source but I figured soemthing was better than nothing) to maybe help make my point. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/troubles/origins/origins.shtml Just my take on things, David

Damn clicky link doesn't work. The troubles in Ireland have a long ass history as mentioned. My take on it now is that it has basically festered into major tribalism that is promoted by the bigotted racist bastards on both sides who, at the end of the day, are criminals hiding under a mask of political motiviation. Most of the intimidation/ punishment beatings are a way of controlling criminal activity to support the fundraising for blowing shit up. Lots of improvised devices (plus some Semtex depending upon which side you're on) and to support a romantic idea that is a bit removed from reality. Certainly one Loyalist organisation was devastated when their political representation was not voted in to the N.Ireland assembly (seems the people they were defending really didn't appreciate their efforts). I think the troubles have been mentioned here a few times and the debate can get heated but stay away from the movies if you want to get a better understanding of it. David

No medical insurance and getting hurt while jumping
kiltboy replied to PhreeZone's topic in The Bonfire
I'm not going to vote on this but I'll add my opinion. I have no insurance (no benefits in this temp job) and I have jumped but I was very conservative and a little worried when it came to landing. I fly a PD190 loaded around 0.95:1 and I land in the big landing area. I would think higher loaded canpoy pilots trying to land in busy areas may be more at risk. Just my 2 cents David -
They should have the classes before people have kids. Some of the creatures I see breading make me shiver. David

Don't they change the light bulb on that every 6 months or so? David

I really don't know the answer to that one. Osten onthe other team traded all his clothes but was wearing poorly fitting underwear so it kept sliding down. He got tired of it during the challenge so he stripped them off and the other guys joined him in solidarity so he didn't feel weird. Strange bunch they've got on this time. David
-
There's nothing wrong with a guy in a skirt. The girl that spoke spanish really helped that team in the village. I think the Morgan crowd are too young and brash to work as a group. David
-
They're in the Pearl Islands. The first show was awesome as they kicked them overboard with a bit of cash and told them they had to go to the local village and barter or buy their supplies. One guy stole the other teams shoes so he could trade for stuff. The team that's winning just now looks very switched on so they should do well. David

Am I the only one that'll be watching this tonight? At least this time they shipwreck them with nothing but the clothes they're in. David

Do you realise the abuse that America has inflicted upon the English language? There is a U in the alphabet people use it!!! An what's with using Z all the time? Is this just another way you can win at Srabble? David

Just an opinion here but regardless of the show and channel the guests have an idea what they're in for as do the viewers. I'd like to see something like "Question Time" on the BBC. Get a panel of politicians (they are the ones that vote after all) and a few well informed others that can debate and have an impartial chair. Sit them down in front of 100 folks who have questions and just see where it goes. May not work with the system of government that is preset in the US but it'd be entertaining as hell. David

The lady in my life is guilty of mattress invasion so I end up hanging on to the side with sod all room to sleep. Still love her though. David

No I believe that precision bombing is the most efficient way of bringing military force to bear. Wrecking command and control is a surgical strike and if you do it correctly then you don't repeatedly jeopardise assets such as pilots and aircraft for what are well defended targets. Infantry/ military formations/vehicles/gun positions in the open can and are cluster bombed for maximum effect or just shelled with gusto. Minimising the loss of enemy combatants is not a consideration when hitting a military target. Survivability of the asset doing the strike is. David
-
I thought the timing was more to do with taking control of a long distance flight so the plane would be well fueled but with few passangers. As for choosing the impact point there was video of OBL discussing who was more optimistic of the damage inflicted. David
-
So what part of the control don't you agree with? I think the timetable idea is stupid myself but there is lots of experience in rebuilding democratic institutions, disaster relief and humanitarian aid in the UN that could be used in getting the country back on its feet. It would also remove the suggestion of the existing coalition as an occupying power if the coalition was to release the rebuilding work to a nonmilitary organisation. Get the civilian/democtratically elected braches of government/ organisations in there and have them be seen to be taking an active role in reshaping the country. David
-
So why then is Tony Blair trying to build consent for UN involvement? Why is he talking to the French President trying to find common ground to assist in the post war rebuilding? Could it be that Tony understands why such involvement would be beneficial? Could it be that Tony understands that the UN needs to be reshaped and is taking an active role in reshaping it? Hey just a thought but as the Brits lost a bunch of guys in the fighting can you throw some of the rebuilding work to some UK companies? Thanks, David
