I ordered mine on July 12th, and had it on August 28th...however, the suit was picked up directly from Bird-Man office in DeLand, Fl...if you live in VA, it should only take another two days to get it after the office in DeLand receives it. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

You may even be two-thirds of the way there! I got my skyflyer in about 6 weeks. Hang on!

Depending on what type of jump I'm doing...RW, Camera, or Bird-Man. Of these, the Wingsuit jumps have the most complex post-opening process. Goes something like: Deploy at 3500. "I'm open without twists!" ...Unzip arm wings, look for traffic, riser or harness turn towards DZ, unzip and stow leg wing, loosen chest strap, traffic check, set up for landing, undo breaks, grab front riser loops, set up for landing, fat hook-turn, swooop! I don't really have time to look at the scenery unless I dump above 3500'. I'll do that on occassion during the sunset loads...Can't beat the scenery when you see the sun reflecting off the Gulf of Mexico. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

HAHAHA...I know a girl at my DZ with these type of canopy rides all the time...if there are any thermals, you'd swear she was under a paraglider and not a Spectre 135. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

I just cut mine off on the PC-100. You get used to holding it without the strap. For other, non-skydiving ventures (sex), I use a tripod. Oh, forgot, I fly my PC-100 in a bonehead D-box. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

I jump a Xaos-21 108 loaded at 1.85. Most of my jumps are video jumps (although my new Skyflyer is definately competing for my time). I have limited wingsuit experience, but thought I'd throw in my $0.02. I did 7 jumps on a GTi, and now I have 3 on my Skyflyer, all with this canopy. Had one bad line twist on the GTi, but I know that I didn't have the best body position on that one.... The Xaos is very stable with line twists, so I unzipped, then undid the twists. Since then, I've found that it really helps openings if I arch hard for a couple of seconds with all wings collapsed, then throw out my PC. I really don't think that flying a small(er), high(er) performing canopy with a wingsuit factors in as much as some would think. Canopy skill is paramount. Read GroundZero's post, he's jumping an 88. Jari, Vladi, and many others are also jumping sub 90, or sub 80 mains with their wingsuits. I'm not saying that

Just turned 26 this last Friday . Slept 3 hours that night after partying with friends, was at the DZ at 9am Sat morning. Finished with last AFF student by 7pm (most spastic AFF student to date). Got back home, was hitting the clubs by 10pm, partied 'til 5am with my friends that were visiting for my B-day. At the DZ Sunday morning at 9:15am until 8:30pm. Let's just say I slept very well last night. . Tight! --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

wide angle/"fish eye" lens recommendations...
JGarcia replied to mountainman's topic in Photography and Video
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that they bought their 0.5 Kenko from Pier Media...HOWEVER, they charge DOUBLE what any other place on the internet sells theirs for. I bought my 0.5 for $45 about 1.7 years ago. I use this lens for ~85 percent of my Tandems, and all RW work. However, I do like using the 0.43 Kenko for Tandems, when the clouds are just right. The customers DO like the seeing that curvature of the earth because it looks like they're really high up, as long as you can be within ~3 feet at all times. That just takes experience, but it IS do-able. That said, shop around. For the price that Pier sells one 0.5 lens, you can afford to get BOTH the 0.5 and the 0.43 Kenko lenses...and get the best of both worlds! --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam! -
Ok, here goes: High School: Back Seat, cop comes by, shines the light in, patrons of the store were complaining of the noise. College: My girl with very short skirt with slits on the sides is sitting on fence at block party in Antigua. like we're just hugging each other. People (including local police) walking past us; Steak & Shake parking lot with (more state troopers than a donut shop), girlfriend doing a very good job of convincing me that we shouldn't break up; After workout, older woman (I was 23, she was 33), found park, ended up on the slides and swings...others playing tennis 50 yards away; Same woman, parking garage at work during lunch time; @ Payne's Prairie Nature trails. Post-College: Girlfriend and I vow to have sex at every party we go to...we did (often having to pretend she was sick so I could be in the bathroom with her for as long as we were); in a club twice, in the parking outside clubs, outside the car countless times. boss just came in...gotta cut it short. ...yet never at the DZ or runway! Damn, I've gotta make some calls! --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

I know what you're going through, and I asked the same question on this forum a few weeks ago. I ordered my Skyflyer on Friday, July 12th and had it August 28th (6.5 weeks). However, I only live 1.75 hours away from DeLand, FL (Birdman's office location) and didn't have to wait for Kim to ship the suit to me. I could be wrong about this, but from a brief conversation that I had with Kim @ Birdman, I got the impression that the suits are shipped from Europe to DeLand to be distrubuted to the respective owners. If you live in Europe, you have to wait that much longer to get the shipment from FL. And I know Kim and others affiliated with Birdman were at the Richmond Boogie, so no suits were mailed last week. I know of people waiting around 10 weeks, though, so hang in there, it's going to be worth the wait. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

Weekend Numbers: 5 (what better to do during bad weather?):6(FL weather sucked 'til noon everyday this weekend):4... 1 Case for first jump on Brand new Skyflyer Wingsuit by Bird-Man; 1 Case for 800th jump;1 Case for 12 hours of freefall; 1 case for 1st dock flying Bird-Man suit . Damn, I haven't had to buy so much beer since my student days! I'm not complaining, though! --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

Hi Jeff, I too have a Nikon N-70 & have considered using the pop up flash on many occasions (sunset/sunrise loads). I've been afraid that the flash/flash assembly would get ripped off by the relative wind. You've not had a problem with it? Thanks, & great pics! Nope, it's not important at all. Most people are right-eye dominant, but you'll hear many top camera flyers (Norman Kent, Gus Wing) suggesting that ringsites be placed over the lLEFT eye. Why? Because if shit hits the fan with pilot chute in tow/hesitation, more than likely, you'll look over your right shoulder, giving things like risers, PC bridle, & suspension lines a better chance at snagging your ring site/ring site assembly. So I wouldn't sweat it at all, placing the site over your dominant eye is a matter of preference, not necessity. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

When I bought the N70, I also bought Nikon's shutter release for it. Hooked it up to the camera body, cut the cable. I soldered it to the female side of a mini-jack. Then I took the Conceptus Tongue switch, and soldered it to the male side of the mini-jack. I did it this way rather than having a permanent connection in case the tongue switch ever craps out...(experience with bite switches crapping out ...but, that's why I switched to the tongue one anyway) I can quickly put on a new one. If, however, you just want point and shoot ease with low budget, maybe that "skycam" would be good (I think it may have auto film advance/rewind). However, if you plan on making any $$$ at a DZ with your camera, they may laugh at you if you show up intending to use one of these.
-
Of course, camera choice comes down to personal preference and how much $$$ you have to spend. Are you going to be shooting for your own pleasure, or will you be getting paid for the pics you take. How much experience do you have flying a camera (video?)? Personally, I don't believe in getting bottom of the line to gain experience or "just in case." That said, my first still camera was a Nikon N-70 with a 24mm wide angle lens. My current camera after 300+ camera jumps? Same one. It's not made by Nikon any more, but you can still find them used at many camera shops. It's definately a work horse, and it comes highly recommended by myself and many other experienced camera flyers. So to answer your question, this one works for me, it rocks. Whether or not it's "better for jumping than others" I cannot know. --Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

Hey, I agree with you! But his religious convictions keep him from buying alcohol for anyone's consumption. Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

No, you're not the only one...my GF beer, so when she does a first, she'll buy a bottle of wine for the DZ. Then there's a guy I know who'll bring a pack of Gatorade instead of beer because he doesn't drink alcohol. What are these people thinking! The key to getting minimal separation on Cessna exits is to have good timing with your instructor. I don't let go of the strut until they are almost on top of me. Every Instructor has slightly different count and timing, so ask your instructor what his "count" is, and don't get faked out. Also, in my experience, the heavier the student, the longer it'll take to launch them after "GO".

Under most skydiving conditions (from aircraft that are flying forward at >75+knots), I've never gotten the "falling" feeling...not like BASE jumping or jumping from a balloon/hovering helicopter would give. That said, the only difference I've felt between normal freefall and wingsuit-assisted freefall are faster forward/slower downward speeds (accompanied by higher endorphin release) with wingsuits. Hi Steve, Just curious (because I am awaiting the arrival of my Skyflyer)...when did you place the order for your GTi? Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

I, too, went with the BASE options...anything that will potentially increase my lift (deflectors), comfort (knee pads), and safety (LQRS, hook-knife) seem like a smart investment. On the jump that got severe line twists, the canopy wasn't diving for too long, so I assessed my altitude, undid my arm zippers, spread risers, and then I began to untwist...then I undid my leg zippers. Luckily the Xaos I fly seems to be pretty stable even with severe line twists. I'm glad you mentioned that the legs should be the first thing to go. I would've gone with arms first...guess that's what this forum's for. I figured there might be a back log on production...since everyone's getting in on the buddy deal. Sucks for me, I guess. ..Bird-Man wouldn't happen to offer an "Express" option, would they? Oh, well, just hope it doesn't turn into 10 weeks or something. Yeah, Chuck, the waiting time's killing me. I've put about a dozen jumps on a GTi...would be more if this friggin' FL weather would cooperate past noon on the weekends. (I don't sound bitter, do I? ). Decided to go with the Skyflyer, though, because if I'm going to be shelling out that much $$$, might as well go all out. I've been fairly smooth and comfortable with the GTi since the first jump...although the MEGA line twists on jump #5 were definately interesting. I'm looking foward to chasing some puffy clouds on the Skyflyer. Any clue what others (without Mafia connections) are waiting these days for theirs? I feel like an 8-yr-old on Christmas Eve...except this Eve's running on almost 4 weeks! I ordered my Skyflyer on the 12th of July...(will be 4 weeks this Friday). One part of the bird-man web site says 4 weeks, others say 6 to 8 weeks. When I was measured by Kim (Bird-Babe 1) Griffin...(by the way, she's a cutie ), she did warn me that the manufacturing plant would be closed for a week for some reason. So just curious as to what everyone elses experience has been as far as shipping time on these bad boys. Thanks! Jairo Low Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

I believe this is the same idea behind the "front air deflectors" option on the Skyflyer Bird-Man suits. According to them, they "[force] the airflow to stay longer on the wing, creating lift, and reducing negative lift that occurs on some occasions at the wing tip area."
