  1. Does anyone know anything about the Panasonic WJ-AVE 5 A/V Editing board? There are a lot of them on E-bay. Would it be a good board for editing Tandem videos? Anything it's missing? 2. I'm simply tired of searching the web, so I thought I might ask here. Does anyone know where I can purchase original manufactures epuipment for Sony Camcorders, such as chargers, remotes, AV plug, etc? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  3. Ok, let's ask the really important question. Am I in it? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  4. I've had to resort to using stills from the video a couple of times. Once because my batteries died and once because the student said I never gave him the film. Oh well. I've yet to hear a complaint from either passenger. I've printed a couple of 8 x 10's from the video on my home computer and it's pretty grainy. 5. I have the Mack warranty on my PC100. I've never used it, but let me know what you find out. Unfortunately I forgot I had the warranty and turned mine into Soundtrack to have a repair done. Oh well, the warranty is good for another year. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  6. For those of you that make a significant part of your living from Skydiving,( Tandems, AFF, Video, etc.), do you carry any form of disability insurance in case you get hurt on the job? If so, where do you find such insurance? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  7. Had the misfortune of witnessing a friend of mine go in after a jump we were doing together. All we could figure is that he had a hard pull or couldn't find his pilot chute. He cut away and then went right back into an RW position all the way to the ground. Never attempted to pull his reserve. I chock up his death to not being current, not reviewing his emergency procedures and not understanding his equipment and how it worked. Also, a cypres would have saved his life, but the RSL didn't. I think to many newbies think an RSL is going to save their life because they don't completely understand how it works. If the main isn't out, it's not going to pull the reserve. It's up to you to save your life, not the equipment we install on our rigs. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  8. Shattered L4 Vertabrae and destroyed right ankle. 2 weeks in the hospital, 5 surgeries. Somedays I hurt and somedays I think I'm stronger because of it. It's definately made me a better, more heads up, skydiver. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  9. Canuck and I were talking about all of this last weekend, and what I like most about this plan is now the more experienced freeflyers can help the newbies with the seperation issue. We can show them what proper seperation times are and then we can give them proper seperation as well and then nobody ends up on top of everyone else. At a big DZ it's hard to keep track of who is new to freeflying and is therefor who is a flopper, but at a smaller DZ like Mile Hi, everybody knows everyone and if you, as an experience freeflyer, haven't jumped with them, then the chances are they are a flopper and we should inquire as to their skill level. Besides, this just helps brings skydivers closer together. Perhaps we can teach them something to make them better freeflyers and then there are just more people to jump with. Pass on your knowledge sky gods. The more you teach, the less dangerous those newbies will be. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  10. Keith, you can't put your main as a Samurai 150 in your profile until you actually jump it. We'll have to go make a flight together once our suits come in. The green bird will be flying soon. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  11. I would be real interested in seeing any data you have to support your hypothesis on this point. I fail to see how having something with padding between your head and the object hitting it can be worse than nothing at all. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  12. Hooknswoop and Aggiedave, please explain how a frap hat is worse than nothing. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  13. 1. Tandem Instructors, do you wear a helmet on tandem jumps? YES 2. Why or why not? WE ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR SOME SORT OF HEAD PROTECTION. I AGREE WITH THIS RULE 3. If yes, what type of helmet? FRAP HAT, I'D WEAR A HARD HELMET BUT I FOUND IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO HEAR THE STUDENT. 4. Do you have your passenger wear a helmet? ONLY IN THE WINTER TIME. 5. Why or why not? TO KEEP THEIR HEAD WARM 6. If yes, what type? FRAP HAT 7. Have you changed your helmet policy for tandems? NO 8. If yes, how? 9. What rigs are you rated on? STRONG AND VECTOR/SIGMA 10. How many tandem jumps do you have? 700 David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  14. Oh, forgot one big drawback. If for some reason either the video or stills don't come out, The customer gets a $25 rebate which comes out of the Videographers pay. The videographer then only gets $15 for the jump. The DZ still gets their profit. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  15. At my DZ, Tandems pay $189 and JM gets $30. Video and Stills cost $85 and Videographer gets $40. Videographer has to pay for the still film. The DZ provides the editing equipment and the VHS tapes. So after pack job, Still film, DV tapes, batteries, wear and tear on my equipment, reserve repacks, etc, I figure I make about $29 a jump for video, but I get to swoop after the dive is over. That makes it worth doing video over tandem. But I do both. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  16. Just wondering what the average time is to pack your canopy. Please indicate the size and make of your canopy and your packing experience level. Personally, it takes me around 6 minutes to pack my Samurai 120 and be completely comfortable with it, but I've done it in 3 minutes to make a quick call. Except for the tandems I jump, I pack almost every time for myself. Over 1000 jumps. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  17. As a rule, I tip if they went above and beyond the expected job. Got me packed for that short call, etc. But if they just do their normal job, I probably would just pay the $5. Then again, I usually pack myself. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  18. I'm officially a working video guy now. Just did my 1st paid tandem video at my home DZ. Didn't turn out to bad if I do say so myself. Maybe someday I can stop hauling freight. (Tandems). David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  19. Contact the manufacture of your container directly. They should have what you want. What's with the gag order fellow Bella? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  20. What kind of proof do we need to make it official. I've never tried to organize a record. Is this one pretty casual? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  21. I'm not a base jumper, but this relates to skydiving too. I saw a friend go in and when I called my mother for support she told me to give up skydiving. She didn't understand. When I had an accident and broke my back, she told me to give up skydiving. She didn't understand. So I put it into terms she could understand. If I had been hurt in a car accident, would you tell me to stop driving? I also related it to something she loves to do. Singing. If your doctor told you not to sing, would you. Her answer....No. Now she supports what I do and although I doubt she'll completely understand, she knows it's what makes me happy, and if I should die doing it, she'll understand it was better than cancer or a car accident. By the way, she's considering doing a tandem with me now that I'm an instructor. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  22. Ok, better yet..... how about a DZ.com headdown record attempt. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  23. How many of your women's record attemptee's are on here alone Mary? It can be done. We'll just have to see what they get in Perris this weekend. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  24. Anyone up for a DZ.com record attempt on this weekend? We only need to beat a 10 way unless it get's broken between now and then. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  25. 10 way? Is that it? Hey Coloradan's, how about we try to break that record during the Casa Boogie at Mile Hi. Most of us will be there that weekend anyway. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
