  1. I've got it made, my Fiancee is a Massage therapy student (she's taking over my thread right now) at the #1 Massage school in the country and she got a 4.0 last quarter.....any way (she's gone now) I get lots of practice time from her. 2. Skydiving Gear is like cars and computers. When the new models come out, the value of the old go down. I'm not saying that the gear is bad or even old, just not the new hot items. In my neck of the woods nobody will buy an original Sabre now. PD was practically giving away there left over inventory on Sabres. In my neck of the woods nobody will pay more than $800 for a Javelin unless it's an Odyssey. IS IT? Most people in the skydiving industry can get 20% off of PD products if you ask around. So a brand new reserve would be around $900. I'd pay the extra $200 to be sure it's never been jumped and maintained correctly. I'm not saying she can't get what your saying you'd sell it for, but I wouldn't pay that much for it, WILL YOU? 3. The question is what is it worth? or what you can get for it. The informed Skydiver probably wouldn't give you more than $2500 for the whole set up. You might get $3000 - $3500 is the person isn't doing their research. It really comes down to the condition and Date of Manufacture of the equipment. An older Javelin 1998 or older isn't worth as much as one that has the newer tuck tabs and bridle cover. I'd give you $300 - $800 depending on that fact if it was in great shape. The old Sabres also aren't worth as much now that the new Sabre 2 is out. General rule of thumb for any canopy. Take 25% off of original price and then $1 per jump. I wouldn't give you more than $400 for any old Sabre. For a cypres, I take the new price and divide that by 12 ( the life of the unit ) and multiply it by the # of years remaining. For the new price I use $950. This is what I bought a new Cypres for just before the Cypres 2's came out. With this in mind I'd give you around $700 for it. PD reserves are the best in my opinion (along with every other skydiver I've met). But if I remember right PD states the life of a reserve is 20 years or 40 pack jobs. Maybe $500 for the reserve. That a total of $2400 on the high side. I'd list it for $3000 on Dropzone.com and hope to get $2500. 4. Actually Jim, I heard it from Mike P. before you put out the E-mail to everyone. I thought you were just following up on his Idea. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  5. Guys, think Valentines day is just for the ladies? Time for our own holiday. http://steakandblowjobday.g-spotting.net/ We've actually been celebrating this holiday at our DZ for a while. I actually thought someone there started it, but maybe not. Put March 20th on your calendars guys. 6. I've been summoned three times for Jury Duty. The first two times I called the number and was dismissed. The third time I had already planned to be out of town so I totally ignored the summons. Like they said, it's not certified. Summons?, What Summons? Actually I'd really like to serve though. Never got a 4th chance though. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  7. You'd just have to do the baton pass during your swoop and then continue right off the cliff and then swoop again. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  8. On another note.. Straight from the SIMS (3) Intentional back-to-earth or vertical orientations that cause tandem freefall speeds exceeding that of droguefall are prohibited. This is not allowed at our DZ for this exact reason. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  9. To each thier own, but I'd hate to see DZ's requiring TM's do something like this. This would not be for everybody and I fear the idea of extra money would entice TM's to do something like this before they could really handle it. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  10. I just went cross braced last week, but I wouldn't try to sink in a cross braced canopy for fear of it stalling. Not a good situation low. If I found myself in a neighborhood situation I'd just do a conservative straight in approach and land on the 1st straight and long road I could find and freak out the neighborhood kids. 11. I really need to get that program. Thanks David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  12. Great, that worked, now please explain to me how you made the file smaller. David David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  13. Every time I try to change my Icon it states the file is too large, but it's no larger than my current Icon and No larger than some of the other icons of other users. I don't understand what I need to do to get it to work. If I try to get it under 10 kb it's too small to see. Attached are the two photos. dzcomphoto.jpg is my current icon and Icon.jpg is the one I'm trying to use. On my computer they are the same file size, but when I up load them one is 1.43 kB and the other is 10.6 kb. What am I doing wrong? 14. I agree, swooping would be the best for spectators. I'd contact someone with the Pro Swooping tour for more information. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."

    Tax write offs

You can write off everything, the question is what can you get away with. It all depends on what you do. Video, Tandem, AFF, What? Some jumps can be written off, all if you want to take chance. Pack Jobs. My feeling is if you can justify it as an expense, write it off. If you end up not making any income, good luck with the IRS considering it a job and not a hobby. I've heard of that happening. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  16. Just curious for those Drop Zone staff out there. Do you get discounts on your fun jumps? Please be specific. Free jumps, discounted jumps? How much? What do you do to earn them. Work full time, part time, so many days a month, etc. What dropzone do you work at? Thanks for the info. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  17. Just curious. What were the bonus' for on each of the rounds. It seems it really push a few of the participants up in the ranking. David David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  18. It appears that the Phillips dvdr985 has been discontinued anyway. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  19. Who out there is currently offering DVDs of tandems or even just thinking about it and how much are you charging for it? Are you charging extra if they want a DVD in addition to the VHS? Or are you giving them a choice of the two for the same price? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  20. I chose cheap jump tickets, but I jump at a place that the tickets are high, but they have a fast plane, small door and only go to 12500. You jump where you feel comfortable. The vibe is the most important thing. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  21. I'll let you know more in a week. I just got my Velocity 90. Haven't jumped it yet. I'm currently on a Vengence 97. I have jumped a Velocity 103 and the front riser pressure is much heavier than the Vengence. 22. Don't give out that prize just yet. I use Shakespear poles and they're less expensive but just as good. http://www.eangler.com/proshop/productdetail.asp?prod%5Fid=3460&SiteName=&adtag=.3460 David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  23. Without naming names or giving to many specifics, have you ever had to make a choice to take the chance of losing a friend by trying to keep them from doing something you think is stupid in skydiving or letting them do it and possibly lose them as a friend permanently? David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  24. Sounds like fun... I wish I lived closer to Florida. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  25. Just for clarification....I never said I would do this, I stated that is why the seal is there. To keep people from doing something this stupid. The seal is suppose to match the last entry on the data card. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
