I have over 1700 jumps and have had that 3 times. Once on a sport rig and twice on a tandem. It's usually nothing to worry about when you have a collapsable PC, but when fully inflated it can cause a problem. Steve, I don't think anyone wants you to pack for them after that slammer of an opening you had last weekend. And Mile Hi still needs Video guys. When I went through AFF in 99, I started on ripcords and then half way through the DZ changed to BOC throw out. I found that confusing. Our DZ has been training on BOC for over 4 years and to my knowledge they have had no significant problems. Train them correctly the first time how they will skydive the rest of their life. And I agree with Mikeat10500, it's time to get rid of SOS systems also. We all revert to our original training when we are in a panic situation. I had a friend go in I believe because he was trained on a SOS system. Pulled his cutaway and then went right back into an arch without pulling his reserve. I've been to the one in Vegas. You won't learn anything there. They aren't into coaching you, just a tourist trap, and the tunnel is small and has a very small cone of air to work in. I'm not a base jumper, but back in the day I was a bungee jumper and pirating bridges. So here is a trick I learned to keep from getting busted. Tresspassing is a real minor offense. If the cops show up and you have sufficient time. IE: halfway up the tower....Make a call and give the cops something better to do... If you get what I'm saying. Make sure it's something they can't prove didn't happen. IE: Screams coming from a house, use your imagination. This does work in small communities where there isn't an abundant number of police officers to handle calls. Also, did you know that you can make 911 calls from any cell phone even if there is no service. This makes it untraceable back to you. I lost that phone 3 years ago. Here's one for you, There was this big way dive for a special occasion that everyone wanted on, but there were a limited number of slots due to the size of the plane. Knowing how important this occasion was, I opted to let the more experience people get on. Well, during the practice dives I filled in for those who couldn't make it due to work stuff. I made my slot every time. So the big day arrives and they were doing two more practice dives starting at 6:00 am. Everyone was required to attend. I showed up to watch. One person in the dive didn't show, so I filled in for him, but was told I had his slot now. By the way, in the previous practice dives he never made it to his slot. Once again I made my slot, but when we got down he had arrived and they put him back in and I got cut. Politics, pure politics. I was hurt, but when the event came everyone made it in and it was beautiful. Being cut sucks, but sometimes it's how it all comes together that counts. If you ever see someone go in from a no pull, you'll think twice about ever jumping without one. Also know an instructor who got kicked in the head and went unconscious. The cypres saved his life. As a tandem master I'm sure I've jumped with high people more times than I know..... but yes, I would jump with someone if they had been smoking.....in fact I have many times with people, who in their own words said " I never jump without partaking." First of all...move closer to the DZ. Just kidding, but that's what I did. My round trip was about 200 miles, so I moved 2 miles away from the airport. But to answer your question. If you like the skydiving atmosphere, go twice a month. For me, it sucks being away from the drop zone for that long. If you want to become a better skydiver, go once a month and do twice as many jumps. You will improve your skills more quickly. But really, just cut everything else away and move to the dropzone and skydive every day. You know it's what you want to do. Go here and call this guy. He can make you any kind of sticker you want. He's a skydiver and he makes us stickers all the time. If you can think of it or send him a .jpg of it, he can make it cheap. At least you might get yours back in one piece. Lost a brand new, 2 jumps on it, Factory Diver 3 years ago on jump run. I wasn't used to a full face and had it just sitting on the top of my head when I stuck my head out the door to spot for a low time jumper and off of my head she blew, thought about going after it for a second. April 28th, bad skydiving day. April 28, 2001 was on a jump when a friend went in and I saw the whole thing. One year later, April 28, 2002, I had a terrible landing breaking my back and right foot. Been on bonus days ever since. But won't jump on April 28th ever again and don't even go to a drop zone. Looking to buy a new camera. I know when micromv cameras came out the video quality was not as good as DV. This new MicroMV supposedly has the same pixels quality as a PC101. ( Sony - DCR-IP55 MicroMV Digital Camcorder ) Still doesn't have a LANC jack and still isn't compatible with other DV cameras with the firewire, as far as I know. Does anyone out there have one of these and is there any other problems with this as far as using it for skydiving goes? And how much are the MV tapes? You forgot Heads up display. I saw a home built helmet once that the camera mounted from the inside and the outside of the helmet was molded to fit the camera. Nothing sticking out to get anything caught on. But this would mean building the helmet different for each camera. And with as quickly as Sony puts out new models, this might not be cost effective.
