FWIW, I'm pretty sure that, at least in the US, the TSA pretty routinely opens/inspects checked-in luggage outside the owners' presence. If it's a parachute they're "supposed" to page the owner and if they don't find him it doesn't go on the plane. How often they actually stick to their own rules? Anybody's guess. cavete terrae.

Ten points for hockey vocab. cavete terrae. -
Funny you mention that, because the reason it's "needed" is, again, because of the god damned AADs that are being shoved down our throats (especially here in Nannystralia). Make them optional for everyone not on student status, and have the manufacturers make it clear that you need to change your personal deployment altitudes upward if you have one. Then those of us who don't have and don't want them can continue on with our lives as we are (or were) happily doing. cavete terrae.

Ah yes, the "it doesn't affect me so I'm ok with it" retort. That's got a long and storied history of being awesome. cavete terrae. -
How big is your rig? I carry on an Infinity I-66N with a Fusion 190 and a Smart 220 in it, and that's a damned large rig by most standards. 1. Get insurance, make sure it'll cover 100% of your gear FULL REPLACEMENT COST. 2. See 1. 3. See 2, 1. 4. When you check the bag in, tell the checkin agent that it's expensive, and very sensitive life saving equipment and if there's to be an inspection you would like to be present. 5. If you can afford to, just ship it ahead of you via a reputable service with full tracking and insurance. cavete terrae.

There's NEVER a reason to burn a steak. cavete terrae. -
That about sums it up. Even if I go to bed with clothes on I tend to strip in my sleep. Years ago at uni I fell asleep on the couch at a friend's place (a friend I had a HUGE crush on, no less). I woke up at like 4am with no clothes on, having shed them all whilst sleeping. I had just opened my eyes when I heard her bedroom door open and she walked past me and into the bathroom. I freaked and threw on my clothes faster than any human has ever dressed before, and then she suddenly reopened the bathroom door and leaned back out. She saw me there and said "Oh weird, I thought you were naked for a sec" "What? Why would I be naked?" In hindsight I should have said something more like "Should I be?" cavete terrae.

Maybe YOU haven't. Canopy collisions happen. cavete terrae. -
And sometimes take them. Jumpsuits: Improve your flying. Look cool. Also most people aren't paying $800 for 'em. That's a stupid comparison. If you can't understand why, I'll peg it out: 1. Obviously a communications device has nothing to do with skydiving. Skydiving is a hobby for the overwhelming majority of participants, and they have a real life outside of it, and communications are part of that. 2. You CAN pay $114/mo on a phone. Most people, myself included, do not. 3. Phones are a monthly payment and in most cases use quite a bit. AADs are something you buy all at once, and hopefully never actually get a single use out of. 4. If I could buy a Vigil for $114/mo over the course of a year without having to get a credit card I'd happily do it, but they don't offer that option. 5. It's SKYDIVING. We know it's dangerous. Know what would make it safer? Not doing it! Know what else would make it safer? Banning front riser input and initiating more than a 15° turn below 300 feet. Banning CRW. Banning tracking dives. Requiring helmets to conform to a safety standard. So on, so forth. For the record, I like AADs and think they're a great idea and most of them are great products. But they're a fucking expensive gizmo in an already expensive sport, and requiring them is shitty. cavete terrae.

Hopin' for the sake of y'all that the US doesn't go mandatory-AAD. It's a pain in the dick if you're jumping on a budget. cavete terrae.

Quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach, or a blow job. Tell her to pick one. Bahahaha cavete terrae.

Won't be long before turbine DZs have the freefall time of Cessna DZs now, and Cessna DZs only do hop and pops… cavete terrae.

But in all seriousness it was more just the whole "The cafeteria is only open at certain times and we weren't allowed fridges in our rooms" issue. cavete terrae.

I thought nobody would remember Can you have a chat with my girlfriend about how to show your love for someone? THey didn't send me away because they LIKED me… cavete terrae.

Hell no. Can't eat the shit, lived off of it at boarding school and haven't been able to touch it since. cavete terrae.

As per the topic: Those of you who hate wasting money on getting food at the DZ or god forbid going into town, what do you do for food? What's cheap, nourishing, reasonable calories (don't wanna be a fatty again, losing this shit was a lot of work), and doesn't require refrigeration? I've been toying with the idea of freezing PBJ sandwiches the night before, then leaving 'em in the trunk and maybe they're still cool even on a hot day. I don't know what that'd do to the bread, though… potential "ew". cavete terrae.

Do you even lift? cavete terrae.

I'll jump anything once. cavete terrae.

Perhaps, we'll see. Season is about to start here and can't jump without one of the stupid things… (I don't really think they're stupid, I just hate having to buy one) cavete terrae.

fff... Well, either a Vigil or a Cypres that doesn't need immediate service I guess cavete terrae.
