Agreed. They don't need us but its always nice to have the big kid on the playground start the fight rather than start it yourself and hope he helps out. Or in the case of the first four: get the big kid to do everything and take no risk yourself cavete terrae.

Saudi, South Korea, Turkey, Israel and France. Three of them bought their military capabilities from us, one of them had their military capabilities given to them by us, and the other has othewise-sourced but still perfectly adequate hardware. If they wanna go in, they do not need us. cavete terrae.

I haven't either Nobody wants to play with me because I've got HMA lines cavete terrae.

It's not hard at all. Just don't mention it, truth be damned. "heading out of town and seeing some friends" would work in a pinch cavete terrae.

There should be a whoring account just for this thread. cavete terrae.

So do I. We can do shitty head down jumps together next time we're at the same DZ! cavete terrae.

Clearly you're not familiar with government behavior. cavete terrae.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to demonstrate a broken watch telling the correct time. Hopefully they fix the watch and it's correct more often. Did we just agree on something? Happens more often than you might think. cavete terrae.

I haven't done a round, but I enjoyed static line :) cavete terrae.

In this thread, we will post something skydiving related that we are ashamed of, or that people would not expect. Mine: In nine years, I have never done a speed star. cavete terrae.

Nervous to jump. Is it ever going to pass?
grue replied to proky100's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You're throwing your self at a planet. If you're not scared you're stupid. It will get easier, when depends on you. It can also get easier then all of a sudden get bloody scary again. About the most scared I've ever been was on my first balloon jump. Didn't make much sense, but hey, I was scared. cavete terrae. -
This is incorrect. It can be restricted at application level but the OS is more than happy to allow you to run multiple instances with the caveat that you must duplicate the application and run each manually -or- in a separate user account. For the record, neither FCP7 nor FCPX will allow you to run multiple copies with either of those cases. Premiere Pro CS6 will work with either, or at least appears to from a brief test. I'm not gullible enough for Creative Cloud so I can't test against that. cavete terrae.

USPA BOD... Nothing more than a mouth piece for manufacturers
grue replied to Ron's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd question that, at least in the US. I don't have any numbers to support my theory, though. I think that's pretty unfair since a lot of (most?) jumpers don't even know that this can be a problem. I've been jumping for 9 years (not with the frequency of some people, admittedly) and if I didn't post on DZ.com I'd have no idea that this was an issue. I haven't had a repack since I found out about it, but I'm damned sure going to ask my rigger to check the extraction force required for my reserve with the main still in the pack tray. I don't expect a problem since my container is sized for 218-228 reserve (I have a 220) and a 190-210 main (I have a 190), but I'll feel a hell of a lot better KNOWING there isn't a problem. I don't think it'd be a bad idea for the USPA to issue notice in one way or another that this is a problem in some cases, and that jumpers should have their gear checked at their next repack. If the extraction force seems high according to the rigger (and perhaps we should get objective numbers), it should be reported to an independent party who will collect the data and look into it further. cavete terrae. -

Aw dang… RIP cavete terrae. -
One makes products people settle for. The other makes products people want. Furthermore, there's an ENTIRELY different mindset at work there vs in the US. See my above post. cavete terrae.

If there are other differences, then why blame the unions? Why not blame, for instance, unrealistic profit expectations and shitty management at US companies? Unions are not the only problem, by a longshot, and I don't mean to imply that. They're simply part of the issue with US manufacturing, and the things you mentioned are other issues. Greed and corruption in a general sense fucked everything up at all levels, from the bottom to the top. A guy bolting transmission brackets into place should absolutely not be expecting to make six figures. They sure as fuck should not be paid six figures to not actually do their job, and just sit around reading the newspaper. Likewise, a guy running a company that loses money and needs a government bailout shouldn't be receiving 7 figures and getting bonuses. cavete terrae.

Yeah that's worked out well for GM, Hostess, etc… You don't honestly think the only difference between those companies and the failures in the US are unions, do you? cavete terrae.

I'd think it'll take incentives for people to NOT reproduce, sadly. Unsustainable population growth rates are fun. cavete terrae.

I'd love to be proven wrong on it, actually, but I can't see how it's not the case. If your wage costs increase and your revenue doesn't, you have three choices (and they're not mutually exclusive): Cut staff, raise prices, or find other places to cut costs. Seems like every time the minimum wage gets raised, we see a lot of employers doing all three. cavete terrae.
