Low cutaway, followed by a LOW reserve pull
grue replied to -ftp-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh for christ's sake. Let me expound on this some more since either I'm not being clear or people aren't getting it. The person in the video takes a very long time to get stable after becoming unstable (in this case, from a cutaway). The person in the video is jumping a velocity. A person jumping a velocity should have "many jumps". A person with "many jumps" should have sufficient skill so that if he is unstable in freefall, he can become stable very quickly. A person on his first jump, if he found himself in a situation where he was unstable in freefall for whatever hypothetical reason you care to have, might be expected to take a similar amount of time to get stable, which makes a certain level of sense. Has this been sufficiently explained so that we're all clear on the point I was trying to make? cavete terrae. -

You've never seen (video of) a first-jump AFF student tumbling out of the sky? edit: Or are you talking about "trying to get stable before saying fuck it and deploying"? Your wording was a bit vague. It's not pull time for a AFF student when they are tumbling over after exit fro 12k. After you cutaway, you pull reserve. Period. Regardless if you an "absolute newbie" or a guy jumping a crossbraced. Ok, you've missed my point as well. I am NOT talking about emergency procedures in general. My comment was that someone with enough jumps to be under a velocity should have the freefall skills to be stable much, MUCH faster than that after a cutaway. cavete terrae. -

I've had a semi-elliptical put me on my back in line twists before, only loaded at about 1.3 as well. It's not as common, but it does happen. cavete terrae. -

Did Twinkies change in the 15-20 years since I last had one?

I don't believe in god(s), fate, karma or any of that, but I agree with you in principle. Live life and enjoy it. When you die, you'll die. cavete terrae. -

It's absolutely inexcusable for any jumper under a canopy like that to need that long to get stable. What even more inexcusable _for any jumper_ is trying to get stable for that long. I'll accept it as a possibility for absolute newbies. cavete terrae. -

That's a myth, they go bad just like nearly anything else. They have good shelf life for a baked good but aren't really impressive outside of that context. The one I had that inspired this post had a use-by date of September. cavete terrae. -

Fixed. I'm pretty sure that the two twinkies I've had in 2013 have very little effect on my health. I do 6 sessions at the gym per week, I track my caloric input, and I'm not worried. A few CASES of twinkies per week? 20 years off my life? How much do you spend on alcohol, and how much do you think that affects your health? I ask because I don't drink, never have, and statistically speaking I bet you do. Given the disproportionately high percentage of smokers in the skydiving community, and your location, I wouldn't be surprised if you partake in that, too. Burial is for selfish assholes. Cremation or just being fed to wild animals is how I'd like to be disposed of. As for the rest of it, I burn more calories than I eat, and thus I do not gain weight. Pretty basic. cavete terrae. -
I will but not anytime this year. Decided to get back in the sky, couldn't do both since I was bike-only. Used the insurance money to buy a car, should be back in the sky next month. cavete terrae.

Best use of cyalumes I ever heard: Back in IN there was a guy who had a big outdoor hog roast on a farm, and every year he invited the skydivers to drop in. The payment was all they could eat and drink. (Whuffos had to pay an admission). One year one of the jumpers, (after tipping a few), went out to his car, stripped naked, broke open a bunch of cyalumes, rubbed them all over his body, then came casually strolling back into the party...glowing green. Please, please tell me he was called glowworm from that point on. cavete terrae.

Had a CBR600 with Micron exhaust, ECU upgrade, filter upgrade, upgraded springs and brake lines. Stolen in February… RIP cavete terrae.

This is Samba, our bengal cat. She's a goofball. Plays fetch, jumps into the shower when I'm bathing, hunts my ankles when I walk. cavete terrae.

I don't know the whole story there. I'm sure there was greed on both sides. I honestly don't care. I will not have children. The world's population is growing at an unsustainable rate and I will not contribute to that. Also, I don't like kids. Only live once, right? If it tastes good, eat it. Life's too short to eat like a rabbit. cavete terrae. -
Challenge accepted. This one will require having a few things handy – When the dipshits start their hooting and hollering after dark, crack some green cyalumes and get 'em glowing. Cut the end off each, and pour the glowing fluid into a bowl. Add flour until you have a sticky, glowing paste. Place this into the centre of a damp, thin paper towel, and then wrap it around tightly and close the "neck" with a rubber band. Repeat several times. Now put on your niqab or burqa (you do have one, right?), run out of your home screaming "ALLAHU SNACKBAR" and throw these balls of hilarity at people. When they hit, they will (from their perspective) be covered in glowing goo thrown by a crazed extremist. cavete terrae.

Enjoy the benefits of the substantial amount of money they pour into your economy? Alternatively, waterboard them. I really don't see much in the way of middle ground. cavete terrae.
