    July 4th musings

Aw, Jesus H Christ I haven't even jumped yet and still, I'm obsessed. ethereal ones flirt in the skies like eagles soaring high above stuck upon the earth I look to the clear blue skies jump from them, I shall. edit: signature tried to merge with the haiku :D cavete terrae.
  2. ack, in circumference, heh. I should sleep more often. cavete terrae.
  3. Ahh, the thing that reminds you that the 29000 mile wide thing is gonna hurtcha? :D cavete terrae.
  4. oh, and what's a protrack? cavete terrae.
  5. Hm. Is it common to basically buy everything but the container/canopies/aad and rent that stuff while saving up to buy 'em? cavete terrae.
  6. er, that was meant to be 4500. I'm working retail part time for the summer, and trying to get used to using the keypad, heh. Seems I'm not too good at is. cavete terrae.
  7. Any movie that has ever even mentioned skydiving. It's like a prerequsite for writing a skydiving script. Damn, busted :D the one in particular that I was thinking of was Point Break, though. Just watched it last night, heh, and I've learned enough about skydiving in the last few days to realise "Wait a minute, they can't be in the air that long unless they jumped from like 50,000 feet, and they for damned sure don't have hypoxia!" cavete terrae.
  8. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of cash to spend on the car after you pay for your student jumps, buy your gear, buy your jumpsuit(s), buy your helmet(s), buy your altimiter, your protrack, your dytter in case you don't hear the protrack, get some coaching, buy all the requisite beer, and lets not forget fun jumps. Quick poll...how many people have sold their car to pay for jump tickets? I'm thinking of putting mine up for sale... Heheh...gosh, that's a lot of gear, heh. Must total up to what, $1200-1500 for the initial setup? There's no way I could sell the car, tho, man. Just love it too much, not to mention the DZ is 90 miles from school, and abotu 120 miles from home :D cavete terrae.
  9. Hm. I'm not terribly worried about the cost, I totalled it up, and the class/first jump, 4 additional static jumps, and 2 freefalls are under $400, and it -just so happens- to be 9 days before my 21st birthday, heheh. In any case, I've started saving, just means I'll have to put off a few upgrades for the car. Since I'm sure as hell not jumping out of an airplane in a South Dakota winter unless I have to do keep current or something, I can spend the snow time on the car, and the sun time in the sky :D cavete terrae.
  10. Hm, an interesting idea. I'll have to wait until I get my schedule for fall semester first, and I'm not sure how likely it'll be that I can ditch a friday 3 weeks into the schoolyear, hehe. Worst case, I'll just get as many jumps in as I can, and go back the next weekend :D What's the average time for a determined person between first class and receiving his/her A Licence? cavete terrae.
  11. Thanks sangiro! Didn't think to look for that in the safety section :D cavete terrae.
  12. ...take static class, get in 5 static jumps, and 2 freefall jumps in the course of a weekend? cavete terrae.
  13. That's such a frighteningly good description of me, including the beta testing....wierd. Anyhow, count me in, too. cavete terrae.
  14. Well slap me around and call me silly. I didn't notice you could search by region :D cavete terrae.
  15. so.....are you single? You're too young for me, I'm asking for the other girls! ...I should also mention I enjoy long walks on the beach, cuddling, and.....wait, hold on ::checks forum name::.... But anyway,I am, in fact, single, hehe. However, I have a sneeeeakkkiing suspicion we don't have a lot of members in my area edited: I Kan Speel! cavete terrae.
  16. Hehe. This decides it. After only a day on the forums, I already like skydiving, and I haven't jumped out of the bloody plane yet Anyhoo, chances are once I go, I'll want to get licenced and do it regularly, I tend to get a bit sport-obsessive, especially when there's adrenaline involved. Other hobbies include racing my car(legally and non-legally both :D), cliff diving, off-piste skiing, etc, so I think "jumping out of a perfectly good airplane"(name that movie!) would fit in there quite well :D cavete terrae.
  17. Don't the, uh, jumbly bits get a bit windburnt? cavete terrae.
  18. 'scuze my ignorance, but is topless/nude jumping really common or something? I can't believe how many references to it I've seen.
  19. Oh man, Sanibel Island, heh. I grew up there, boy do I miss it. Midwest suuuuucks :( Good luck tho! cavete terrae.
  20. Wheee, got an email from the DZ. As long as I stay under 235lbs, I'm good. Guess that means the weight training stops -now- :D cavete terrae.
  21. Go go gadget newbie: What's a cypress? cavete terrae.
  22. I haven't really looked into the other stuff, I was under the (probably mistaken) impression that tandem was really just if you wanna go once or twice, whereas static line is going to be the quickest route to actually getting a licence. AFF isn't available at my quasi-local DZ, as far as I know, but I'll ask 'em when I call tomorrow. cavete terrae.
  23. Suuuure ya were :D yeah, I was just trying to imagine tho, gosh. 120mph winds..... Yeah, worse case scenario, I can head to one of the bigger DZs, just a longer trip. cavete terrae.
  24. Thanks for the help, folks, when I call them tomorrow, hopefully I'll get some good news :D :D I can't imagine how cold -that- would be on the bits.... I'm pretty excited. looks like the DZ I wanna go to is $180 for the course and first static jump, then $40/jump for statics. Once I get the course and 4 additional jumps, I can move to freefalls at $25/jump. Does that sound reasonable? cavete terrae.
  25. My first jump was on a PD 260. A lot of DZ's use Manta 288's. I don't think you'll have any problems. Most excellent, I'll be giving them a call in the morning :D Fortunately, they're only about 2 hours away from my home, and about an hour and 15 minutes from school, so if all goes well...muahahahha cavete terrae.
