  1. Just a 206 and a 182 cavete terrae.
  2. Not a bad idea. I'll have a talk with him first and tell it how it is, and be civil about it. If he presses the issue, I'll talk to his parents, I guess. That'd be odd, heh, but it's better than being sued for threatening a kid. cavete terrae.
  3. Here's the story as I've heard it, from two sources: Guy comes to her work 2 or 3 weeks ago, acts like cockbite in general, but not specifically to her. Guy comes back to her work a few days later, acts normal, asks her for her number, and she gives it to him. They go out once, and she decides she doesn't like his style, so doesn't call him... but he keeps calling...and calling...and calling. One night he called, she was over here, so she had me answer it. "'allo?" "Is there?" "No mate, she's busy. Can I take a message?" "Nah man, that's cool" Thought the problem was solved, but last night, he starts calling her again. Tonight, he leaves a voicemail that she called me about after she left my place. Possibly threatening, definitely obscenity-ridden. I told her to save it so I can review it before deciding on a course of action. The guy is under 18, and I'm over 18, so I cannot risk any type of physical action towards him, unless it's in self-defense. How would you handle it? cavete terrae.
  4. That's easy, just get drunk, grab a stick and beat the living crap outta the first guy you see next to you. Nah, I"m a goalie in hockey, too cavete terrae.
  5. Try sex. Does wonders. You haven't seen the women at my uni cavete terrae.
  6. Oh, trust me, I know.... I'm dumbing it down for the Americans! cavete terrae.
  7. Gotta have something to tune my reflexes for hockey! Anwyay, I get a few grand on scholarship, so it makes school a bit more affordable. cavete terrae.
  8. Which means 2 weeks until I have to run 4 miles in under 28 minutes. I'm a bloody goalkeeper, why do I need to be able to run 4 miles that fast? cavete terrae.
  9. It was definitely the radio, we tried it again after I landed, no joy. Ended up happening to another student that day, too As for the traction of the shoes, that's a good point. Thanks for the tips, guys! cavete terrae.
  10. Don't bother with wimpy soft foam padding. It must be quite firm to be effective. Yeah, I've got a few ideas. I play goalie in hockey, and I'm thinking maybe I can cut up one of my old chest protectors and make something that'll do the trick. cavete terrae.
  11. I work 7 days a week, and only get one or two days off per month I hope to get my 3 PRCP jumps and first freefall in next Saturday, though! Edit: Now that I'm looking at the weather, I might have to try and change my day off and drive to the DZ earlier in the week by a day or two.. possible t-storms for Saturday cavete terrae.
  12. Yeah, they were cuties all right. Hopefully I'll see more of 'em cavete terrae.
  13. Eep, forgot to check back in on this thread. Anyway, the fit on the harness might have been a bit questionable. This is the first rig I jumped in, which was more comfortable than the second, it seemed like: http://spiceweasel.net/skydiving/ready.jpg I ended up with some fun purple-and-yellow bruises on my thighs, but I'm gonna try adding some padding (heh, it rhymes!) for my jumps next weekend. PRCP, here I come! cavete terrae.
  14. I stuck my first jump last week, courtesy of my ground crew radioing a flare command. However, on the second jump, the radio crapped out right before landing and I didn't know, so I never got a flare command. At the point where I figured I was about 12' off the ground, I waited for a flare command, and never got it. I ended up flaring at perhaps six feet or so after thinking "well, fuck, I can't be -that- high, I'm gonna flare before I break my legs", and did a bit of an ass skid as a result of the late flare, coupled with the lack of traction from the boots I was wearing (footwear has been changed, for future use) While I know it's my responsibilty for the landing, not the ground crew, I wasn't really sure of my altitude at the time. I know now that the "flare!" command popped into my head at the right time, but do you guys have any suggestions for judging when to pull, just to be sure? FWIW, I'm about 6'3", so a six foot fall out of the sky isn't that big of a deal for me. cavete terrae.
  15. First off, cassowarys = scary. Anyway... "You've heard of the purple headed yogurt slinger, right? Well, he stole my act." Pretty weak, I know cavete terrae.
  16. Melbourne is now home, but for a long time, I was a Sydneysider. cavete terrae.
  17. By the time I make my next trip home to Australia (I'm only in the US for school), I should have completed the requirements for my A licence. Will this be accepted so I can jump there while I'm visiting home? cavete terrae.
  18. Pretty easy for me... 24 July 2004 cavete terrae.
  19. I'm wondering if the student had looked at the winds and actually figured out the landing pattern for the winds of the day. My students (and all the other students at my DZ) fill out a flight planner before each jump. There's a lot of good information done, such as figuring out the spot, etc, but the biggest key is the DZ photo on the back. With the winds the student actually draws out what the intended landing pattern will be. This gives the student a good idea of what their doing and what they can In her defense, the winds were kinda on and off, and changing direction a lot that day. I was lucky enough to jump twice and get the same winds both times late in the day, but she jumped earlier in the day, when the wind was still shifting a lot. It was a very light wind, but it's wind nonetheless. cavete terrae.
  20. Oh, Sarah, I was the big tall guy in the static line class: http://spiceweasel.net/skydiving/ready.jpg cavete terrae.
  21. Is it possible you weren't going to make it back to the landing area? Maybe you being given directions to land there as it was the safest place to land? If you knew how to fly your canopy, why were you being given instructions? Actually, I saw this one happen. She was coming down well, and even to my untrained eyes, it looked like the ground crew might have over corrected her course. In fact, I said to the guy next to me "She's coming down in the corn, she can't turn that low to avoid it", but I might have had a better angle on it than the guy with the radaio. cavete terrae.
  22. Yup. Yesterday was my first day, I'll be back on 7 August for some PRCP and then hopefully I'll freefall on the 8th. cavete terrae.
  23. Sounds about right! By the way, do you take paypal for the necklaces? cavete terrae.
  24. Well, it wasn't really the openings that did it, it was when I was actually under fabric, and doing turns and stuff. I'll try some of the suggestions posted here. I've got some heavy pants that I used to use for paintball that might be good for this. cavete terrae.
