Well, winter should soon draw to a close, which is good...
grue replied to grue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
They do, but we haven't had any nice weekends since December :( I lost currency, I haven't been able to jump since the 4th of December. cavete terrae. -

There is such a thing as flying to where the sun is, doing some jumping, and then flying back to the frozen waste land. Keepin' it safe! Ed Not on my college budget, there isn't cavete terrae. -

FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
grue replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry for the thread hijack, but on the subject of FARs, my girlfriend made a crack that if we get married, she'll kick my ass if I skydive to the altar at an outdoor wedding, which begs the question: Obviously, I wouldn't wanna try and land on an altar with people there, but is there any FAR preventing someone from jumping out above city limits and, say, coming down on their property? Assume the edge of town and lots of land? It just poppped into my head and I wasn't sure. cavete terrae. -

because if I don't get some jumps soon, I'm going to snap cavete terrae. -
Haha, true story. Before, I was a parachutist. Now, I am a skydiver! What level of AFF did you end up starting at? I ask because the DZ I'm gonna hit in Florida over Xmas said they'll probably throw me in right at Level 4 if I make a jump whilst I'm there. cavete terrae.

NOS™. You need NOS™. One of those, the big bottles. No, better make it two.....and you need 'em by tonight. Sorry sorry sorry, someone had to make a Fast and Furious quote cavete terrae. -
W00hoo! Went great, it's SO MUCH BETTER than the dope rope! It was amazing to actually get belly-down for the first time, I love the feeling of "whoa, shit, that's the friggin' EARTH coming up at me" before I pulled the ripcord cavete terrae.

Making my final PRCP, and my first freefall today I've been waiting a long time for this moment cavete terrae.
-
I'll hopefully jump at Skydive Southwest Florida later this month
-
Yeah, there should be little to no traffic in the air besides me. I'm doing my last PRCP, and then my first hop and pop, so I'll be on the ground before anyone else jumps. cavete terrae.

What the hell do you guys do keep from freezing to death when you jump in winter? cavete terrae.

I go to a small university in NW Iowa, my DZ is in Minnesota. I'm pretty reserved on the ground, too, especially for a hockey player cavete terrae.

Mine's nowhere near any of these, but it was still about 25 feet from being really embarassing. On my second S/L jump, I was coming in on the DZ, and the ground radioman told me to "line up on the alfalfa". Not being an agricultural sort, I realised I had no idea what alfalfa looked like from ground level, let alone on my downwind leg at 1,000 feet. So I lined up on the corn instead, then extended my base leg a bit to clear off the corn, then landed with the corn about 20' to my left however, nobody was the wiser, because the alfalfa was the wild-growing grass and shit next to the corn field, so they all thought I was following instructions cavete terrae.

Came up with a couple more: So on Wednesday NHL season: no start Damn the greedy whores cavete terrae.

Oh Jesus H Christ It's still only the fifteenth? Next jumps: Halloween. cavete terrae.

It's what? Holy living shit, no wonder I didn't recognise anybody in my stats class. I WENT TO THE WRONG ONE! hahahahahahhahhhahahahahahahahaha I thought it was Friday! cavete terrae.

Just came up with these in my stats class Dull, the earth-bound life freedom is found in blue skies to truly live, jump. like a fragile bloom canopy over your head live to jump again static line grows old halloween, I fall for real it's not soon enough. Who else has got 'em? cavete terrae.
-
Half Russian, quarter German, quarter Dutch. I keep wanting to invade myself. Good thing I don't like the idea of things up my ass, or I might try. cavete terrae.
-
I find this discussion interesting, because as someone going through a static line progression, my first non-static jump is a 3500' hop and pop, I believe. My two practice rip cord pulls so far have both been at 3500', and my third will be as well. I can't picture them making much of a change, since it's supposed to be a clear and pull. Let Go. Arch-thousand Look-thousand Reach-thousand Pull-thousand Arch-thousand. la dee dah OMGHI2CANOPY! cavete terrae.
