  1. Have no fear, the grue is here. cavete terrae.
  2. I did a static line progression. 2 regular static lines, 3 PRCPs, and then off to freefall. I liked it so much, I bought the company! Wait, no I didn't. Some day cavete terrae.
  3. Drive a ball out of the back of a skyvan... then go catch it before it hits! cavete terrae.
  4. Yeah, that's a good one too cavete terrae.
  5. OUch, what happened? cavete terrae.
  6. I've got two of 'em: Get my A licence, and get my B licence If I can get my "A" by my sky birthday (24 July) I'm happy, and that shouldn't be a problem. I want my "B" by my real birthday (16 September) if possible cavete terrae.
  7. Hm. I got the confirmation of payment from uspa.org, maybe that'd work. Still leaves teh credit card issue though.. I just tell myself I can wait 2 weeks cavete terrae.
  8. Ow, monkey... What's the story? cavete terrae.
  9. is it by any chance a wtfbbq? cavete terrae.
  10. You and I should hang out, we're definitely in the same boat cavete terrae.
  11. Ouch, I feel your pain. I've done the shoulder thing (torn rotator cuff playing baseball), the knee thing (blown right ACL twice, also did the MCL at the same time as one of em), half a dozen broken ribs, about the same # of cracked ribs, 1 broken nose, 4 broken fingers, 1 broken hand, 1 broken foot, 2 concussions... the list goes on The joys of being a college athlete! cavete terrae.
  12. My excuse: Waiting for USPA membership materials (I let it expire, oops), and waiting for my credit card to start a new cycle on the 18th cavete terrae.
  13. Here it is: Newbie first post - weight and size? 2 years and 22 days later, I finally got to jump cavete terrae.
  14. I'm not entirely sure it'll be there again, but if it is.... :) Yeah, the winds are a huge pain in my ass, but such is life. I think I can easily get 4 jumps a day in, even at Luverne, as long as the weather cooperates. cavete terrae.
  15. Man, I'd love to do something like that, but I'd have to miss a lot of work to do it.... but then again, nothing's impossible except skiing through a revolving door... I'm in Sioux City, in the NW corner of the state, but my DZ is in Luverne, MN, about 90 minutes away. cavete terrae.
  16. You dont need to be at a DZ to learn how to pack, but you probably don't have a rig to pack of your own. If you know a jumper with a rig thats a friend, and they know how to properly teach someone how to pack, you could do that. Other then that, IMO there isn't much else you can do away from the DZ that will get you closer to your A. I was in Iowa a couple weeks ago and the weather was 75, but the wind was blowing like hell! Be safe. Ed Yeah, the whole region gets crazy windy, it's annoying as hell when you have a 14mph wind limit cavete terrae.
  17. Well, the weather here is, at best, unpredictable. While it'll hopefully be nice most of the time, there's always a decent chance of a surprise thunderstorm, or high winds. cavete terrae.
  18. Well, to a point. Gear weight limits are gear weight limits, those shouldn't be exceeded. Oh, absolutely true. I don't mean some 6'10" 300lb monster or anything, but if you're within ~10lbs of the limit and in decent shape, I know at least my nearby DZs are willing to work with you. Hell, my home DZ didn't even give me the biggest canopy. I jump a 270sqft student rig, but they have a 310 (!) on hand, for god knows what. cavete terrae.
  19. Why would you have to have an A-license for that? Someone mentioned it in passing, but I didn't really think about it until later. I'll call the DZ tomorrow and get the skinny. cavete terrae.
  20. I'm pretty sure I have to hold an A licence to jump the King Air at my DZ's boogie on 4th of July weekend, so I guess I have my work cut out for me. So I'm looking for tips on how to maximise the number of jumps I can get on a given saturday (my DZ isn't always running on Sundays, so I figure it's better to assume they won't than assume they will), especially considering I still have to learn how to pack a chute, etc etc before I can get a license Anyone have some pointers on how to master things away from the DZ that are otherwise somewhat time consuming, so I can maximise my efficiency? cavete terrae.
  21. In my (admittedly limited) experience, I've found that the weight limit is somewhat soft, no pun intended. If you're like myself, that is reasonably tall and heavy, but athletic, they're more likely to let you jump over the "limit" than someone who's 5'4" and as wide as they are tall. When I first started, I was 6'3", 230lbs (out of season, out of shape!), and had zero problems. Your mileage may vary. cavete terrae.
  22. Hmm... we do hanging exits, and I don't recall ever getting bruises on my forearms, btu I get 'em on my inner thighs from the harness cavete terrae.
