Let's see B&J favorit is "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" And then there's this little shop near where I live called the chocolate bar. The first time I walked in, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! So much beautiful hand made chocolate! Anyways they have ice cream flavors like Snowberry, Triple Decadance, Raspberry Chiffon and others that are amazing! Christina

The Lane brothers of New York, Mr. Winner Lane, 44, and Mr. Loser Lane, 41 (their actual birth names), were profiled in a July Newsday report, made more interesting by the fact that Loser is successful (a police detective in the South Bronx) and Winner is not (a history of petty crimes). A sister said she believes her parents selected "Winner" because their late father was a big baseball fan and "Loser" just to complete the pairing. [Newsday, 7-22-02] An unidentified young man walked away, apparently unhurt, after leaping from between cars of a 60 mph West Japan Railway "express" train onto the platform as it roared through a "local" station (Kobe, Japan, July). Two teenage boys were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after they and other boys encircled an older man on the street and began firing at him; the man was not hit (Michigan City, Ind., March). Fort Worth (Texas) inventor Don Mims and marketer Ron Toms introduced a wooden "Gatling"-type gun that rapid-fires up to 144 rubber bands by turning a crank (though the rubber bands have to be hand-loaded) (March). Among the latest crackpot legal theories: Randall Lynn Harper, 48, was sentenced to a year in jail for resisting a police officer; he had refused to accept a traffic summons because his driver's license is typed in all-uppercase letters, which he said is legally reserved only for corporations and is therefore not binding on humans (Salinas, Calif., June). David Johnston, 54, on trial for swindling investors, subsequently formed a company with the same name as the lead plaintiff suing him, then petitioned under that company's name to dismiss the case against David Johnston, and now thus believes he has been cleared (Clearwater, Fla., July). [Belleville News-Democrat, 5-14-02] [Modesto Bee-AP, 6-6-02] [St. Petersburg Times, 7-21-02]Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Norman Micallef, 35, created a scene (and police attention) when his van collided with a moose near Sudbury, Ontario, in June; unfortunately for him, an officer who stopped to help noticed a certain scent ($325,000 (U.S.) worth of marijuana plants in the van). And on May 18 in Torrance, Calif., as members of rival gangs began to congregate over a shooting incident, two F-15 fighter jets flew by, low to the ground, causing the gang members to freeze in apprehension; a couple of minutes later, as the F-15s made a return low pass, the gang members quickly dispersed in panic, apparently unaware that the jets were part of the nearby Armed Forces Day parade. [Sault Star-Sudbury Star, 6-7-02] [Today's Air Force News, 5-31-02] In the middle of a crowd booing Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, a man was arrested, apparently only because he was holding a slice of pie (since a protester had once hit Chretien with a pie) (Vancouver). Tough-love mother Karen Paape distributed mug-shot posters of her two teenage sons, asking that anyone who sees them smoking should call the police (West Bend, Wis.). A man convicted of sexually assaulting and killing his 16-year-old nephew was sentenced to be thrown off a cliff in a sack, with the provision that if he survives, he will be hanged (Mashhad, Iran). A 20-year-old man was fatally shot wrestling for a gun with a 21-year-old man with whom he had been debating which of the two was more likely to wind up in heaven (Godley, Texas). Thanks guys for the info. I called them up and hopefully will be out there that week if all goes as planned. Will it be getting cold? How warm should I dress? If you can come out during the week, let's make a jump! Christina

I'm going to try to make it to the AOT boggie, I'll be getting back from Michigan on Friday around 1 pm, if anyone from Houston wants to carpool over there around that time let me know. And if you organize a CASA full of nekid people you can count me in. Christina

Free tandem for going naked? I've never heard of that. Interesting idea though. People would probably run screaming if I said I was going to jump naked. Christina
-
Hummmm, don't know what happened to that last one, it was supposed to say, Can I come to? We can even take my big yellow truck! I'll be getting back from Michigan at about 1pm on 9/13. Christina

I've thought about topless jumps. I mean I like my open face helmet because I love the feel of the wind. So I guess I'm curious what it would be like to feel the wind on your whole body. It's the fear of someone with a video camera to capture the occasion forever that stops me! I would do a naked jump if everybody on the plane was also naked though, that seems fair, and good for a lot of laughs and some nervous giggles. I have a question though, does someone meet you in the field with clothes, because I think the walk back to hanger would be the worst part. Christina

I asked something similiar once at my dz and was told that the birds can hear you coming and they stay the f%*& out of your way. Never found out for sure if it was true though or not. Christina

Hey, I have to go to Midland, Michigan from Sept. 9-13 for work. I'll be flying a company plane so taking a rig shouldn't be a problem. I was looking in the dropzone section and found a dropzone in Saginaw and one in Mt. Pleasant. Both a reasonable distance from Midland. So is anybody here from that area, any recommendations? I'll only be there during the week, any chance of jumping in the evenings? Christina

I do RW and freefly In my meager 170 jump experience I've found that even when I haven't done RW for 30+ jumps because I've been working on my freeflying then I do an RW jump my RW skills have gotten better even though I've only been freeflying. Just an observation. I've also noticed that more people are like me, learning both RW and freeflying. I personally don't see freeflying taking over RW but as things advance that the lines between RW and freeflying starting to blur. Maybe it won't be a 100, 200 or 300 way head down record but what we think of as a hybrid. Everybody just flying. We already have so much control over fall rates that bellyflying and freeflying fall rates overlap and as people keep pushing the envelope that range of rates is going to keep getting bigger. Instead of asking whether a group is RW or freeflying, they'll ask what's your fallrate going to be for exit order. Just an opinion. Christina

Oh yeah, I forgot some... I don't shave my legs because I have super sensitive skin and I got tired of constantly dealing with razor burn. I went to 13 different schools in K-12 (Army Brat) I saw the Berlin wall (both sides) before it was torn down I've also never broken any bones and I've also never had any stitches And lastly I'm a really cool, single, skydiver chick Christina

I was going to six flags with some friends on Saturday, the Friday before a coworker came over to my office, she was also going to six flags. We started talking about the rides and that we were both adreline jumkies, at the time I was learning to hang glide. So she asked if I had ever skydived and I said no but of course I wanted to. She said she wanted to try it to. So I said ok let's go. So we looked on the internet at what dz was closest and went right after work that day. That was May 4, 2002. She hasn't gone back and now I have 169 jumps. After that first tandem I knew there was no going back, it's all I could think about. I had first planned on just trying to gradute by the end of summer but I graduted by the end of May instead and haven't been able to slow down. My family thought I was pretty crazy so I offered to pay for anyone in my immediate family to do their first tandem. So far my dad, step mom, mom and step dad have all done it. My sister will be going on her next visit down here and my brother is only 14 but he already wants to go too. It's great because now they understand why I do it and they don't question me when I spend an entire weekend at the dz. Christina

Jumps, humps and beer... Sounds like my kind of weekend I'm there... as soon as I can sneak away from work that is. Blue skies, and be safe. Christina's evil twin sister that only comes out on weekends

Hey Zennie, Sorry to hear about everything. I understand how hard it can be. If you need an ear inside or outside the DZ just let me know. I filed for my divorce, uncontested, myself, no lawyer or anything so I know what all it takes and how a lot of it has to get done. Let me know if you need anything. Are you jumping this weekend? I'm thinking about visiting Skydive Houston on Saturday or Sunday, not sure yet, so let me know. Christina

I only have 150 jumps, just to say that up front. But 130 of those have been on my Sabre2 190, loaded at 1.1:1. I bought me gear as soon as I got my A liscence. As a student I was jumping a Sabre 210 and then a Sabre 190 fairly well. These are the only canopies I have any experience with. The Sabre2 is much more responsive and seems faster on landings. It took me quite some time to get to stand up landings on it, about 20-30 jumps and then I was only standing them up about half the time. It took me to about 80 jumps before I consistantly land standing up. It was just like something clicked for me one day and I got it. But now I am very happy with my Sabre2. I have a lot of fun flying it and feel that I still have so much more to learn about it. I will be jumping it for a long time to come. That said if I went back to do it again, I probably would've looked for something used and a little more docile or bigger instead of buying new and then worked my way up to the Sabre2. Some of those first 50 or so landings on the Sabre2 were pretty rough although I didn't get hurt. I think bumps and bruises can be fast teachers although I went out to dinner with some skydiver friends when I had about 70 jumps total and someone said, "Girl, when are you going to learn to land that canopy." Anyways, don't know if any of that helped but that's my experience with the Sabre2. It really is a great canopy though. Christina
