  1. Well he won the Nobel peace prize for....wait, why did he win that again? Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  2. His latest commercials talking about getting stuck in two foreign wars suggests the new slogan will be "Let's beat Bush again!" Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  3. I thought it was a perfectly reasonable questions. I know many base jumpers who have contemplated the very same thing including myself. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  4. +1 I'd also recommend Nevin. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  5. Never had problems with mine. I've had rings and barbells. I prefer barbells as they offer even less of a snag profile but with that being said I am currently jumping one barbell and one ring because I am too lazy to go buy more jewelry. BASE jumping is a different story, for some reason climbing in my rig will loosen the end of the barbells and eventually they fall off. I've also had a hard opening pull at one before before but never rip it. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  6. 10 Years - No one uses "normal" high performance lines anymore, hybrid fibers and fabrics are now the norm. Additional regulation means everyone that jumps now has to have government regulated certifications. 20 Years - Fully composite aircraft with electric motors reduce fuel costs to offset the raise in fuel costs over the past 20 years. Additional regulation means much fewer jumpers and you can only jump one at a time with 10 video cameras, a special government permit that costs a fortune, and your attorney as well as a govt agent present on the dive. 30 Years - Due to increased regulation skydiving no longer exists. 7. Educate them and include them. Show them you know what you are doing and that you are as safe as possible. Introduce them to people, the sport, the program, the regulation. Let them know how important it is to you, it's your lifestyle, it's your happiness. This will take time. Three years ago my mother faked a heart attack to try and get me to stop BASE jumping. Now she is incredibly supportive. (Well...supportive of the legal jumps anyway.) Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.

  10. I know, lots to do in LA, but I am by myself this time and bored. I was thinkin of venturing up to Santa Monica but thats what I always do. Anyone around wanna do dinner and/or drinks? Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  11. I leave for Malay on Saturday but spending a couple days in LA on the way out then spending a week in Sibu jumping a building there. I'll be back in KL on the 26th for the Menara jump. See you then. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  12. There are several small regional airports around, but depending on where you are coming from it might be easiest to fly into Huntington WV and rent or hitch a ride. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.

  15. That Park that pops referred to has a really nice maze. It's right next to StartSkydiving and we can see if from the air. They spent a LOT of time on it and it's shaped like a skull and a spiderweb and it was done REALLY well. Not sure why they put all the effort into it though as jumpers are the only ones that can really appreciate the design Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  16. I'm 4'6" and 300 lbs. I would be comfortable on a 200 because that's what i fly skydiving and am used to it. I think i want one with the holes in the bottom because I am going to do like 7 flips. Don't worry I know that sounds like a lot but I am going to use the holdhand method so i just have to let it go and it will open automatically. My friends tell me a slidergate and WTF handles are also a good idea. Probably because I am going to have a gopro on each wrist. I know what you are thinking, thats a dumb idea, but its ok because i am also going to have two on my helmet, one facing forward and one facing backwards so that what i miss from the handcams i will get with my helmet cams. Also, it would be nice if it was wingsuit compatible. I plan on taking things slow but if my first jump goes really well i'd like to hook up my V4. Do you have anything like that? PS: Can you pack it for me? Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.

  18. I dont normally post serious things here but I wanted to chime in. This is something you really dont want to halfass. Every now and then people will try something "silly" that they dont realize could be very dangerous. The glass on mirror balls shatters very easily. I wouldnt worry about the panels coming off, but small bumps makes the glass shatter and come off in splinters and as dust. It would be very very very easy to begin this splintering process in the aircraft itself and any impact, even minor, in freefall and going to make even more come off. I have spent hours trying to wash tiny glass fragments out of my hands on numerous occasions. Furthermore, you really dont want those panels coming off in freefall with people above or around them. I'm not saying dont do it, just dont half ass it. Treat it like a raftdive with a lot of people. Get an organizer, have a plan, dive the plan, and make sure everyone has gloves, covered skin, and preferably a full face. Actually the more i think about this its just a bad idea. The person holding it is gonna beat the shit out of it and there is going to be glass shrapnel everywhere. Not to mention you cant drop it at the end of the dive and you REALLY dont wanna hold onto it through deployment. Call me a buzzkill, but this seriously needs to be reconsidered. 19. No offense taken. One of the articles i read said it was a complex legal maneuver. However, this is just one source, so who knows. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/19/west-memphis-three-free_n_931449.html#s333742&title=Craighead_County_Court Experts believe both sides have entered into a complex legal agreement, in which the three men have entered into so-called Alford pleas. "The plea means that you maintain your innocence but you believe there is a substantial likelihood that a jury will find you guilty so you are pleading guilty per State v. Alford," Anne Bremner, a Seattle attorney and legal analyst, told The Huffington Post. "The effect of the corresponding finding of guilt by the court is the same as with a straight guilty plea." Such pleas could make it more difficult for the men to sue the state over their imprisonment. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  20. No, they are not pleading guilty. They didnt exactly say what they are pleading but it sounds more like no contest with time served. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  21. I wouldn't want to speak on behalf of any other poster but I don't believe that is the point of his post. The point, as I interpret it, is name calling or labeling of ANY kind is wrong and nonproductive. Maybe we should call it "labeling" since "namecalling" might lead people to believe we are only speaking about insults. You are asking to OP to use a word to label someone. I see this as wrong. If you do not agree with someones words or positions that's fine, but to properly express your disagreement you need to tell them why and support your point of view. This cannot be accomplished by simply labeling someone. Let's look at your example: "What word(s) do you suggest for describing Bachmann's propensity for making outrageously wrong statements?" You are asking the original OP to label them with one or two words. If we do that, and for example call Bachmann an idiot, all we have done is say that we dont agree with what the person is saying. We arent saying what part, or why, or even stating what our position on the matter is. That's not debating, and it does nothing to progress or change the issue. This is what frustrates me so much about many people that follow politics. If you have an opinion, and want to discuss it, that's great! However, simply labeling or insulting someone is debating or discussing at all. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.

  23. I've never seen a BASE jumper flat pack. Most start our PRO pack standing and re-dress the initial folds on the ground although I've seen a couple people start with their canopy on the ground like a flat pack. Most ram-air reserves are packed the same way. When a base jumper is observed "flat" packing most of the time they are actually "stack" packing because as previously mentioned in a couple other posts the canopy is still flaked symmetrically like a pro pack just on the ground while stacking the flakes on each other. Personally I prefer to start on the ground. It gives me more control throughout the entire packjob and I dont have to redress anything. 24. No, it doesnt bother me, and no, you're not getting under my skin. I guess i just figured we could have a rational debate but apparently not. Unfortunately I wont be able to take part in these wonderful discussions anymore. I enjoy debating but what is happening here isn't debating. From your post history it is quite obvious that you are delusional and live in your own world. To be honest it pains me to see that you have so much blind hate. I can honestly say I have never met or spoken with anyone else with as much hate as you seem to have. I feel sorry for you. In your mind I suppose you will see this final post of mine as a victory for you, and that is just fine with me. Kind of like a dog with a rope toy. You pull and pull and pull, and when you get tired of playing the stupid dogs game you just let go of the rope, and it trots around triumphantly with the rope in it's mouth since it obviously won. 25. That's it? No counter argument? Just some incoherent nonsense? Did you mean Fromunda? Are you insinuating i was whining? I was actually just countering your point. You see, in intelligent debates, you have point and counterpoint. The less intelligent ones contain insults, but the ones that ONLY contain insults cannot even be considered debates since there isn't any evidence being presented. And are you calling my skippy? Or saying I need peanut butter with my cheese? edit: formatting Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
