  2. So....to sum it up the most annoying thing is their job? Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  3. Probably because it's trending right now. Not all things that are trendy are bad. As far as advertising and recruiting goes...the social media slam makes sense, but boards do not as gyms are local. I just think its a lot of fun and a great workout. Very personally rewarding. I am surprised at the feeling of accomplishment I get after a good WOD, it's very similar to a good base jump. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  4. Anyone else hooked? I've been doing it a couple months now and can't get enough. I know several other BASE jumpers that do it. As weird as it sounds I get it. The feeling of accomplishment after a good WOD is similar to the feeling of accomplishment i get after a good base jump. 5. For those interested so far the best deal I have found is Hostbandit.com for $1 a month for unlimited space, transfers, and some other goodies. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  6. Yeah, I used to do that with my desktop. Since i have 3 laptops and a tablet the only purpose it served was a server/NAS. When the power source on it went i never replaced it. Now I travel so much i dont really feel like replacing, updating, and leaving something liek that running all the time when I am gone. 7. Can anyone recommend some cheap hosting space? I was using Dreamhost. Signed up a couple years ago and got 2 years unlimited space for something silly cheap like $15 for 2 years. Just got an email this morning saying they want $120 for the next year. I only use it to point my domain at and store some footage via ftp. Less than 500GB easily and I could keep it below 100GB if need be. Thanks Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  8. Math Mike? Really? You're not fooling anyone...we know you can't count past potato Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  9. Not a bad article but seems very amateurish. Pretty much just working from assumptions. If the authors theory were factual, then everyone who suddenly gets a high dose of dopamine would be addicted which isnt the case. I still think the theory of low MAO levels is much more accurate based on what we see with extreme sports athletes, violent criminals, addicts, etc. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  10. I did, and after they hired me they told me it played a big part in their decision. The key is to demonstrate how it relates. I was applying for a sales management/strategy role. They liked my jumping because I was able to use it to demonstrate: -Discipline -How to properly analyze risk -When to assume risk -threat analysis -demonstrate i had a clear decision making process -experience managing and training others (coach) -nonverbal communication -teamwork/cooperation -leadership Again, it all depends on how you sell it and can show some sort of relationship. 11. I got mine at a Walmart in WV, but it was also the week before Halloween. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  12. Nope. Unless you get a handfull of tutu instead of PC...thats why I went handheld Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  13. Missing a picture, but based on your description I think it's safe to assume thats a trouser snake. Mostly harmless unless you are careless with it. Try not to handle it too much as they are known to spit. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  14. Haha sure dude. I guess I missed there this was a paying customer getting instruction. The video certainly doesnt suggest that. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  15. While your post is very well thought out, it doesn't make it correct. How about this for an analogy: I just watched a video of guys base jumping off a 270ft ft antenna! As a skydiver with 500 skydives I can tell you this is absolutely dangerous! A parachute takes a certain amount of time to open and these guys are leaving no room for error. One guy even waited a full 2 seconds before releasing his PC! Any type of a hesitation and he would be dead! My point? To each their own. 16. Sony was at Bridge Day this year and gave a few of us some free ones to test. I shot a few jumps in 720p @ 120fps. Footage was crisp but it wasnt a fair test with colors because it was completely overcast that day. I also used the same settings on a base jump in Utah last weekend and the colors were a lot better. I'll see if I can get the raw up on youtube this weekend and post the link. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  17. I wasnt around back then either, but there are some major differences. First, AFF is vastly more popular than FFC for obvious reasons. Because of this more AFF classes happen, which means potential instructors can get qualified much more quickly. I think the point many of us are getting hung up on is the whole 200 FFC requirement. That is by and far completely ridiculous. By having that requirement, this proposal essential ensures the original WSI/E will dominate the WS world for the next decade with all that it entails. If someone wants to be a WSI, they would have no choice but to go through this original WSI/E. Even if an WSI taught a FFC every single weekend of the year, which is completely unreasonable, it would take four years for them to be qualified to be a WSI/E. 18. I have asked several times both on DZ.com and Facebook (since apparently that's the official form of communication now for USPA issues) yet no one seems willing to answer my question. The way the poll is worded asks the membership if they simply want to adopt a standardized system. However, the underlying tones suggest the question SHOULD ask if the membership wants to adopt the previously submitted standardized system. Is that correct? Is this two separate issues? If someone votes yes for a standard system are they also voting yes for the system already submitted? What if they want to vote yes for a standardized system, but no for the current proposal? Second question I have asked numerous times across several forums and websites and yet to get an answer: Can someone please tell me how many people currently meet the requirements of Section E Subsection 1 of the current proposal? Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  19. Sorry to be a bother...but I want to make sure this question is answered, since the answer to this question should determine exactly HOW the question is delivered to general membership. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  20. If the membership votes yes, then do we also have a say in the content of the standardization? What if a WSer agrees to the idea of standardization but does not like the current proposal? Are these separate issues...or is the current proposal simply going to be adopted if the membership agrees to "standardize"? 21. You are the first person I have ever met that would trust their life with a KelTec. There is a reason you can pick one up for $150. Pretty much since the day it came out the LCP has been praised as one of if not the best weapon for ccw. I like the LCP a lot and will probably pick up one soon. I was looking at the LC9 pretty hard but didnt care for the long trigger pull. I currently have Ruger's SR40c which i am in love with. It's actually very easy to conceal for a .40 but it's still just a tad big to comfortably conceal when dressed for work. 22. My favorite is the sound bodies make falling off of a very large tower in the middle of the night. Sounds almost like a plane overhead. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  23. Why on earth would you want nomex? I can't see it being a good fit in either a canopy or lines. Not to mention expensive and limited supply. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
  24. What is the name of your company? Looking through this thread there is a lot of confusion between several people. A bolt is very different from a bobbin. A bobbin holds yarn, like a pirn, whereas a bolt hold finished fabric. Fabric is a woven material made with filaments of yarn. (For non textile people when you hear yarn think of fiber or thread.) Part of the problem you are facing is you are too high in the supply chain. The parachute manufacturers aren't buying yarn, they are buying fabric for the canopies and braid for the lines. You need to get into the weavers and braiders. Now, if you have a really cool product, as in a really cool yarn, then yes, you could get the parachute manufacturers interested, but then they would be asking their suppliers (the weavers and braiders) to source it since they are not weaving their own fabrics or braiding their own lines. 25. Sounds like you are looking at areas outside the US but have you considered Utah? Legal(ish) base jumping year round with very easy access to at least a hundred exit points, cheap skydiving, easy and cheap flights to the rest of the US, cheap real estate, great weather, perfect PG launching grounds, perfect speed flying launching grounds, and not to mention great for all kinds of other non aerial sports such as skiing, biking, hiking, climbing, etc. Fiend I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark. - Thomas Hobbes.
