Wanted to add my 2C. I flew 4-way vid and competed in 8-way on Dawg Catchers. Your adice on canopy type and WL is sound. What I don't agree with is that if you're in the burble then you're probably too high to see the points. You need to be under the bottom canopy so you can get their grips, otherwise you'll have a bust - especially on Rotations. For keeping proximity I used front risers to get down and then slammed the rears to kill my speed. It didn't cause any wobble on the vid. I then warped to maintain my position. The prerequisit to all of this was using a matching canopy/load that flew how the formation would fly. For some this could be a canopy that is a little more ragged out than everyone else's. Tandem canopies have the right of way in all situations?
DJL replied to stevomooo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I think this is the main problem. Your tandems should be establishing and flying their pattern. Where does this opinion of their's end? Can they land opposite to the traffic pattern into an oncoming crowd of upjumpers? If they're spiraling down into the pattern then it's not just a TM vs fun jumper issue, they could be screwing each other also. Growing up a sailor, I always put issues of right-of-way things into terms of the nautical rules of the road; the oldest and most internationally consistent form of right-of-way and is what aeronautical right-of-way is based upon. The least maneuverable vessel gets the right of way but it is their responsibility to maintain course and speed. Your TM's should quit with their antics and establish their pattern well before the time that their actions push someone away from their chosen landing spot. Kenneth Foster (getaway car driver) death sentence commuted
DJL replied to Nightingale's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup, I got the email a little while ago. That's great news. What I think is good here is that it was not a knee-jerk pardon; he still has the life sentence which as a participant in this murder, he deserves. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
You're on crack. But anyway, I see her as hot in a "study partner I would hook up with" kind of way. Which I'm sure is exactly the angle the show is going for. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yeah, and whatever you do, don't do a google image search for her with the adult filter turned off. http://images.google.com/images?q=Kari+Byron&hl=en&safe=off&um=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=title "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

The connection that's already on my bike looks remarkably like the 12V connection to a car's trailer light connection. I know there are chargers that work through a car powerpoint and since that's 12V then I image the amerage would be the same there as on the lights. Anyone done it without frying their motorcycle? By the way, I do intend to use a trickle charger to charge the battery. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Guys, there's not point in making this a pro-anti death penalty conversation without missing the point here. Regardless whyhe was driving them around, a rider in his car got out, shot someone and then got back in. It didn't have anything to do with robberies, the guy got out and got into an altercation with someone's boyfriend. If you want to keep him in jail for being an accessory to robbery, then that's OK. But from what everone is quoting, this had nothing to do with the robberies. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Actually, putting two males together is not that bad. A friend of mine and some of his buddies got drunk one night, thought it would be an awesome idea to put two male bettas together to watch them "duke it out." About two hours later, they got bored watching them do nothing, so they put the other one back in his original tank. Quite uneventful to say the least. That's quite the exception and probably had more to do with the owner's ineptitude in keeping them healthy. Healthy Betas will fight until all of their opponent's fins are gone and the loser usually never fully recovers. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I've jumped every single exit imaginable out of our King Air including a ton of CRW with poised exits. No prob with the HS to date. The one and only BM jump I've done I tucked just as a matter of my training. Having seen some of the lift people get out the door I would advise all to tuck with a birdman first out of low tail aircraft. We also have a very firm understanding at our DZ that you don't even dream of getting out of the plane until the pilot is configured for jump run. Try to light a glass bottle full of gunpowder with a lit bottle rocket by throwing the lit bottle rocket inside and then trying to screw on the cap before it goes boom. Luckily it didn't work. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Freeflying makes you a better belly flyer?
DJL replied to RB_Hammer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it's more like that jumpers who have become good freeflyers, just as a matter of getting to that point, being more naturally talented, and probably shooting a crapload of tandem vid have become better as overall skydivers. Compare that to an equally talented person who dedicated that same about of training to team 4-way and you tell me who the better belly flyer will be.
