  2. Just out of curiosity, why are you so adamant that there is no man made global warming. What do you think you're accomplishing? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. Wattsup with you and this website? It is a huge crock of boiling shit as far as sources go. Honestly man, do the smallest bit of scraping on your sources. For example go look up what "wood for trees" refers to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling The "woodsfortrees.org" website is something run by a software engineer and you can create any type of graph you want just by putting in the numbers. Look! I made a graph! http://woodfortrees.org/plot/sawtooth:10/detrend:90/mean:91 "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. It seems like the people who have the worst things to say about USPA usually do the least to engage either them or the situation they have an issue with, much like the OP who said he saw a TI smoke pot before a jump and did nothing to stop it. 5. You're asking the same people who have trouble comprehending the shortcomings of the visual cues of the 45 degree rule to be able to gauge another visual cue right in the middle of their climbout. The period between groups takes into account the climbout so somehow this person with their shoe in the door needs to estimate not only their distance across the ground but also be able to gauge the amount of time to when their group is set in the door. It's a good thought but not realistic unless for some reason there is a very large quantity of time between groups and this spotter can do rule of thumb mid-air mental telemetry. 6. Then it appears as though a benefit of not being a member is that if you park in the landing area you might end up with a new car. Thanks, USPA!! Maybe we'll see this happen when people's memberships expire. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Unfortunately for prospective new CRW jumpers this platform is considered to be incredibly archaic but I know the main population of CRW jumpers prefer it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  9. I'm talking about the effects of temperature change. BH had said there would be no adverse effects. Yay, America! Can you confirm that this is a permanent situation? I'll go invest in coastal real estate if you're sure. My background is Mechanical Engineering in the heating and cooling industry, I'm literally an expert in the properties of gases and liquids.. Here's just one LESSON, if you'd like to brush up. I'll leave the rest to you. EDIT: Also, if you can please confirm that the the coefficient of expansion is negligible for water I'll stop specifying all of these expansion tanks in buildings. Seems like a big waste. Again, it seems like you didn't follow my comparison of liquids between a cup of coffee and a bathtub and a bathtub and the Atlantic Ocean. 10. Good for you Bill, but just because I take issue with my tax dollars subsidizing Elon Musk's toys-for-upper-middle-class-boys factory, doesn't make me a Luddite So then what toys are OK with you? You prefer that it instead be used for things like the $800,000 per round ammo that goes on the Zumwalt main guns? No that I'm being a peace-nick but you can do a shitload of barbecue with $800,000. You make is sound like that nobody is being paid to do a job for this terrible Elon Musk stuff you hate. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. It's sad to see the rest of the world flying by us in energy technology because we're sitting here filibustering over global warming politics. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/11/india-unveils-world-largest-solar-power-plant-161129101022044.html "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  12. I don't think we need to destroy it but I also know that any change will be too late. We already understand that micro-generation is easier in the long run than large coal plants and nuke energy is getting easier and safer. I PM at a commercial electrical contractor and we're seeing a huge change in energy consumption on lighting going to LED. Anyway at this point it's just salvaging what we can. Hopefully the metaphor of the runaway reactor will be untrue and we won't end up in some Mad Max hellscape. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  13. Do you understand what it means to be "elite"? It should not be an insult. I want my leaders to be elite people. Donald Trump does not have the attention span to function in the high pressure world he is about to enter. You can only hope that he has the wisdom to leave important decisions to those who do. But it is unlikely his enormous ego will allow him to stay out of the way at critical times. Your nation is potentially in great danger. Examples of people who are...um...not elite (and not even close to it) are two of his possibles for Sec of DHS, the Sheriffs Joe Arpaio and David Clarke Jr. Both of these guys are hard hitting Sheriffs but in comparison they're just street level enforcers. I've seen it before in many cases and organizations, there's someone who does a good job, the company gets by and then when it's time to hire some new staff or replace that person you realize that they're not even in the same league. Many people just do not know what they do not know. Many people have seen too many movies where the grunt gets put in charge of the Army and kicks ass up and down the street or the Secretary does her boss's job better than she does. 14. You've got to be kidding me. There are ample examples of things that are severely affected just by a few degrees temperature difference. Do you fish? Do you chase the spawn? Do you know what temperature the water needs to be at a certain time of year for those eggs to live? How about temperatures that trigger seasonal changes in plants and trees or crops in Texas? Do you understand the energy difference in a cup of coffee vs a bath tub at a given temperature degrees? What if that bath tub were the Atlantic Ocean at the beginning of hurricane season. How about the difference in volume a liquid at two temperatures? Again....Atlantic Ocean. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  15. Oh man, stir it! Ask Kallend if he was crying into his Che Guevara pillowcase. Shit....everyone can read this, can't they.... "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  16. I've seen that situation. Going to the DZO was all it took to fix it. Did this guy consider that? I'm with you. What someone does on their off-hours is their business but.....holy fuck, I wouldn't let that guy on the plane. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  17. If you don't know the answer then you should cut away. You're posting video of someone who has plenty of experience making a safe rear riser maneuver. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  18. Let me guess, you wanted to get USPA involved in your personal pissing match and they told you they can't pull a rating just because you said you saw a TI using a 1-hitter. If you saw this and you give a shit why didn't you do something, this is very fucking serious but you did nothing and complain that someone else should have? It is USPA's job to get involved in exactly that situation through the SnTA or RD. USPA took on the role of policing the TI's and does a horrible job at it because no one really knows what to do at the field level or just blatantly looks the other way. Twenty-five years ago, when tandems were a small, small fraction of the money pie, USPA listened to the members. They had no choice, we were the sole source of income to USPA. Then, they added the Group Membership program and had to serve two masters with competing ideals of how skydiving should be. Lately, the manufacturers (specifically the tandem manufacturers) have heavily influenced USPA. Now they serve three masters and the members are the ones with the least amount of political pull. And you pretty much do have to be a member of USPA to jump in this country. I don't think there are ten DZ's that are non-Group members in the US. USPA essentially is a monopoly and certainly acts like one. top I think you answered your own problem, people look the other way and should not. USPA sees all sorts of he says, she says BS. You can't enforce something at an upper level if there's no proof and I'm sure you know how many pissing matches are out there. You have to at least handle your own problems before getting mad that someone else isn't, that's just lame. I certainly don't feel controlled by the lifetime membership, rating renewals and bare minimum of continued training I need. I know it's a huge can of worms but God forbid that USPA should agree with the manufacturers that they don't want to get sued by someone under 18 who doesn't have insurance and broke their leg on a landing. 19. USPA Chesley H. Judy Safety Award The USPA Chesley H. Judy Safety Award is to recognize any current USPA member who through example, deed, training, or innovation, had promoted safe skydiving in a substantive way. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=121367;t=search_engine BTW, the local S&TA awards these. USPA was not able to refuse this. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  23. Once there was Hanoi Jane, a blithe actress who allowed herself to be used for propaganda. Now there's.........Moscow Steven. Edit: Oh Come ON! You gotta admit you loved Under Siege. A Navy Seal turned cook somehow runs bad guys off a Battleship....and for some reason drags Erika Eleniak into every fight he gets into. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  24. It might still be tough, but not as tough, if you would hoe the row (like the expression), not the road. Maybe you didn't understand. But Brenthutch did. Actually, no. It was coined by prostitutes in the days of westward expansion. Between the seedy settlers, typically small towns and the religious sect they phrased some streets as "Tough roads to hoe." just cause you guys got it all wrong: I believe the colloquialism is "A tough rodeo" coined by rodeo clowns when expressing concern over particularly determined bulls - it's now expressed for any situation where you just can't shake the danger "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
