Un-fucking believable. Never in my life did I think I would see Americans siding to protect Russia against the unanimous opinion of the United States Intelligence community and government. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

When the world listens to scientists the world gets better. - Ozone Layer
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-36674996 When I was a kid this was just becoming common knowledge. I grew up with this as fact and wasn't exposed to whether or not there were deniers. At that point it was unfortunate for those in the fluorocarbon industry but it was something the world agreed to do. Now we're reaping the benefits. Here were are years later and this is the only time I've seen someone deny how the gases in hairspray affect the ozone layer. I present out Asshole-in-Chief https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU2p6YakNJg http://www.factcheck.org/2016/05/trump-on-hairspray-and-ozone/ When it become good politics to dumb down things so much? "No way. No way. That’s like a lot of the rules and regulations you people have in the mines, right, it’s the same kind of stuff." These rules and regulations are intended to protect those workers and citizens from THIS and THIS. But nevermind all of that, we need your votes to get rid of these regulations so coal can make money (that these voters will never see). The thing is just another data tracker. What I noticed they did is bomb the web with their own trouble-shooting guides that are thinly veiled advertisements so that anything disparaging doesn't show up on the first page. Yeah, it's funny when there are thousands of articles about how this was the best gift of 2017.....and the articles and posts are dated early December. They're now apparently having a freeze/crash issue because since they want to route all functionality through their cloud they've overloaded their cloud with all the new xmas users. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Got one. It's cool but how in the fuck does a bluetooth device not operate alone, it won't work as a stand-alone bluetooth device. What I want is to stream to it via bluetooth without having it connected to wifi. That's job number zero of a bluetooth device. I don't want to enter a wifi password to it every time I'm somewhere different. Fucking internet of things. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Soooooo, I'm pretty sure it was posted with a little bit of tongue in cheek too. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Anyone who thinks that Trump won't go two terms is living in the same fairy tale that got him elected in the first place. The Republican Party will keep him in place and placate his every tantrum as long as he appeases their party line policies. Nothing will change, you can expect a very strong re-election push for him in four years. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Electoral College voters who didn't vote for Trump or Clinton
DJL replied to nolhtairt's topic in Speakers Corner
Ha, oh God forbid that people should take issue with those who steamroll morality for what they see as the greater good. CIA botched the job with the Gitmo detainees, FBI warned them. Now we have people who have confessed to everything from the Kennedy assassination to that one bad season of Lost and since they didn't follow due process in collecting evidence we have no way to prosecute them. -Regurgitated from the writings of FBI agent Ali Soufan. No it was fake witnessing. Everyone at this point, courtesy of news reporting on it knows that he did not have his hands up. The slogan is perpetuated within police shooting protests regardless of it's original veracity. Think what you will of that. I have to ask, why is this so confusing? If you receive news do a search on a few key words, if the sources before that just reference each other or are just another news report with no actual source then it's probably bullshit. If you search results in several examples of it being debunked then it's definitely bullshit. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yes, you'll ignore the fact that your real life example worked in the exact opposite way to what you intended, and instead will make up some hypothetical situations where every factor has been described in such a way that it supports your argument.... if real life actually mirrored that same situation. Which it doesn't. The hypothetical is basically why it is, even with us knowing that the whole thing needs to taken apart and put back together again. As early states were added to the union they didn't want policies dictated to them just because they had a relatively small number of people within their borders. That's reflected by the number of Senators, etc, to give tiny Delaware an equal say to New York. The "Kill Indians and Take Their Land" budget wasn't of much concern for Rhode Island so why would they care, but to Missouri, it's a big deal. I think you're all just trying to hand to pigeon-hole each other on absolutive details. There are many parts of the puzzle and they all contribute to the whole. Just because you can pin down a few doesn't mean you can't figure out the picture. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Wow, We finally had the same thought, I feel so cheap............ No kidding, the only difference is that Russia is already conducting unrestricted warfare on the people represented by the perpetrator of this murder. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Continuing about Electoral College vote weighting. I'll put it like this. Let's say you're the states of New Georgia, East Kansas, Left Bernistan and you you have a low population density despite the fact that you're the same size of the post apocalytical coastal states of West Virginia, East Tennesee etc. They want you to join the Republic of Trumptopia (After a few name changes, cough - Bernistan) but they have 18 million voters to your measely 2 million. Now, if you just go by a popular vote then all you'll ever do is work by the whim of the Eastern Coastal States. When the candidates come along some support rebuilding Atlantic shipping and other support Mississippi Sea Lane shipping you'll want actual leverage as to how that balance is reached. So there you have why population density should not dictate every decision. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Um, fucking chill the fuckety-fuck out!! Continuing,,,, Quade: In regard to swing states, I agree, it's something that should be more directly reflect a balance. But good luck changing that. As I said, the issue would only get worse, meaning it doesn't work well right now. Worse would be the heavily populated states having the only say in how the country is governed. There are issues more closely related to the densely populated areas than there are to the more sparse areas, that doesn't mean that they're more important to country's health. This is a very large country and it's difficult to make one shoe fit it all but unless we become regionalized it's how it'll need to be. For Angry Jakee: A) You would never that in a popular vote. What you would have is areas with higher population densities controlling the vote. There's nothing wrong with a certain degree of that but it needs to be balanced with the needs of the more sparse areas. Just because Northern Virginia thinks the school system is A-OK, doesn't mean that SW Tennessee is OK. B) You have more of that with the EC than with the popular vote. I disagree. C) Why is it about states instead of people? Why is one American's opinion less valid because they live within an arbitrarily created political division that has lots of people in it? They're imaginary lines, but for the context of this conversation, that's what we're talking about. The answer is because eventually you have power migration to those city centers and the good people of Dubuque are left with no educational funding or business incentives because the people in Newark or SanFran all have good jobs after good schools and don't see that as a priority. A popular vote can be the result of a mob mentality. Ironically, the concept of electors is supposed to protect against that but I guess we're shit out of luck. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
-
I may be in the minority here but I agree with the point of the electoral college as it relates to balancing against the popular vote. It's a pretty fundamental principle of protecting the minority from the mob. You can't have every state in the country affected by only what a couple of states want. If that were the case then the problem of pandering to a couple of states would only get worse. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm with you 100% on the issues of overfishing and it's effect on the environment and ecosystem. I grew up on salt water, fisherman, blue water sailor. I'm just saying that her article isn't the "end all" of environmental discussion....unless.....unlesss.............Dammit, IT'S A DOUMENTARY!!! I don't know about a Monkey Wrench. That woman is an anti-fishing activist local to Nova Scotia. She's a biologist but I don't think her 15 year old article is exactly the bedrock of climate change information. It's a good read for it's own scope and it's well known that there's a direct link between things like whale shit, plankton, and the ocean's ability to absorb CO2. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/russia-ambassador-shooting-turkey-nato-security-services-andrey-karlov-a7485296.html So, here we sit with a NATO member on the political defensive and bullshit stories swirling that this was something perpetrated by NATO and "The West". Hopefully they are protected against Russian and Chinese hacking by some kind of isolation as well. Tit for tat cyber wars are just around the corner. And don't forget that Putin is up for re-election in 2018. I foresee plenty of "help" from every American who he pissed off and knows how to Photoshop him into gay porn. It's a cultural thing in both the military and government. How often do you hear someone say something like, "Ha, yeah, I'm technologically challenged." When I hear an Army Major say that I really wonder what the fuck our military is prioritizing. Sure, it's not his job to know what the nerds are doing but he needs to know what the fuck the nerds are doing and know what kind of threat his communication and operating systems are subject to. Assange and Wikileaks has no ability to verify or investigate the hacks and how they received their information is no indicator as to where the info came from. Besides, it's not just government agencies but independent security companies such as Fidelis and FireEye who have reached the same conclusions.
