  1. Apparently, the cartridge got an ammo of the year award from the NRA in 09. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  2. Did a word exist in ancient Hebrew for kill, separate from the word for murder? Do you have a reference? Yes, at least that's what some of the ancient Hebrew experts think: http://people.ucalgary.ca/~elsegal/Shokel/001102_ThouShaltNotMurder.html This came up in conversation with a friend over here who really is a Hebrew language expert and she gave me a similar explanation. You don't even need to be an expert. First semester Hebrew students learn what rasah means. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  3. How do you top C-4? I was going to suggest a flame-thrower. Chuck Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  4. Donating it to charity would have made more sense to me, but it wouldn't have made a very good YouTube video. But I'm sort of skeptical about the authenticity here anyway... smells a bit like balloon boy. I personally wouldn't donate my computers to anyone. With all the personal info that is hidden on it, I wouldn't want anyone to dig up, say, my bank acxount info. The reason why the dad had the daughter's computed is because she wanted him to fix it. That is how he found the comments. If he wanted to donate it, he would have had to pay to fix it and then wipe it. If it's an older computer, it would be cheaper just to buy a computer to donate. I heard on the news earlier that grounding and other typical parenting techniques were not getting through. A dramatic gesture was what finally got through to the kid. For all the arm chair quarterbacks, when was the last time you have had to deal with a teenager? MTV and their friends at high school have created some unique parenting challenges. The guy sounded pretty tech savvy, or at least, savvy enough to do his own wipe. There are free programs out there that will scrub your HD clean of anything and everything by writing/rewriting pseudo random data over and over and over and over again. I use one such program at work to scrub off patient info. Works really well and is pretty quick. And yeah, if you go back and listen again, he makes mention a few times that normal techniques / punishments weren't working and so this was just the next step in a long line of things. Apparently, this wasn't her first offense. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  5. I would have sold it (or my parents would have). Silly to toss that much money away. But, if you're going to be dramatic about it, I would have slung it out trap/skeet style and hit it with a 12 gauge =D You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  6. I usually don't reply on these, advice wise, since my profile is accurate and with a whopping 80 jumps, not only do I not know what I don't know, sometimes I feel like I don't know that I don't know what I don't know :). Anyway, I feel your pain about wanting something for a camera. I've always been a fast learner on things that I dive into, be it books, work, or sports, and so hearing about needing a C for the USPA recommendation was really frustrating at first. Sometimes I'm still thinking, "120 jumps to go! Weee!" But I do lurk and read the forums a lot, incidents and safety, and I can see -- as much as I can at this level -- why the numbers are there. And then I got to thinking, if I'm really going to spend a lot of time in this sport, both in jumps and years, really, what is 200 jumps when compared to what I hope will be thousands and thousands? Not a whole lot when you look at the big picture. At only 4 jumps a weekend, it'll only take a year to hit that magic number, and that's starting from 0, and I imagine it will feel like its on me before I know it. I'm already in awe I just hit my 1 year anniversary (Jan 30). So anyway, point being, after I sat back and thought, and thought, and thought, why not just enjoy the ride to 200, learn all you can, and be comfortable in the fact that maybe waiting is best, even if you are a normally "good" at things. After all, it's *only* 200 jumps, and 1 bad early jump will ensure you never fly camera. Just my .02 You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  7. Sure, if it's in a firearm that is in the fire, and the firearm is pointing at the dog. But I don't think you can say that the bullet which killed the dog came from loose ammo. I don't want to go into detail too much due to HIPAA, but there were no firearms in the house, just left over ammo that was in a big bowl of stuff. I imagine that the one that killed the dog was one that cooked off at the bottom and was compressed / tightly wrapped so the gasses had no choice but to push the bullet out fast. Anyway, my point wasnt so much that 1 loose round is super dangerous, but rounds outside of firearms in the right circumstances that cook off can be. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  8. Depends on the round, where it is when it cooks off, etc. It's not likely, but people have died from it before. For example, a tightly packed round (or rounds) would cook off closer to a real firing due to the gasses trapping than one just laying out in the open. Not sure the exact chances, but it has happened. I can attest to the fact that we had a patient's house burn down a long time ago, and during the fire, his ammo cooked off, and a bullet killed his dog (a large one). So, I would tend to believe that if it can kill an 80-100lb dog, the right circumstances of a cooked off round could kill a person too. 9. Glasers are pants. I'll see if I can find the report I had in mind, but google some of the tests people have run. You'd be better shooting wad cutters, really. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  12. And if you want to talk about suicides.... Canada's rate of gun suicide did go down with strict gun control laws... But the RATE of suicides didn't. Other methods went up. Studies have show that suicides are not actually reduced by gun laws. Only suicide by gun. And removing suicide the number of gun deaths drops in half. That's because people that really want to die, will. The world is a dangerous place, and with a little google-fu, you can find much more lethal and painless ways to die than blasting your head off (which does fail at times) You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  13. A lot less than donating to charity. But if you want to be "patriotic" throw it in the money hole: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnX-D4kkPOQ You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  14. What about people who defuse bombs with one hand, tame lions with the other, all while having a king cobra wrapped around their neck and crocs strapped to their shoes while in free fall? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  15. Well the point is, that we're comparing people with different levels of ability. We're saying, "What about a blackbelt vs a normal guy/girl with a gun at close range" That's silly. If we're going to compare defenses, the ability of both the aggressor and defender needs to be the same in whatever they choose to use. So, in a CQB, let's pit a blackbelt in whatever vs someone who's trained repeatedly in firearms, like a military unit, a SWAT team member, etc. Again, there's a reason why guns are used now to kill people and not bare hands -- and that's because the firearm trumps in the vast, vast majority of scenarios, even up close and personal. Not too mention that a firearm at the very least, equalizes the encounter, if not gives you the upper hand. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  16. It's strange that militaries across the globe then train predominately with guns and not martial art skills. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  24. Ya, which is passed off as truth and imposed on evreyone else's beliefs as if it's some type of supreme authority... I think the point you're missing is that the result of a corrected mistake is something which is correct. Not necessarily at all. You can easily make another mistake. 25. As far as the OT/NT is concerned, it never was a "believe God exists" requirement. God was already a given. Or to quote, Jam 2:19, "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that" Any rate, even today plenty of people see more than enough evidence of some sort of God being out there. So maybe the problem isn't in not enough evidence, its that no amount will convince skeptics that a) God is real and most importantly -- going with the above -- that b) Following God is a good thing (which is what its really all about). You can believe God exists all day long, but in OT/NT theology, if you aren't trusting that His word is for the best, and trying to be in line with Him, you're in trouble.
