  8. Maybe, those parking lots always had those same cars, but you just never noticed them before. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9
  9. First off, I barely remember ever seeing seatbelts. They were rare, and regarded as something to get tangled up with, and so impede one's egress. Do they use those nowadays? I can't imagine jumping for any length of time and not riding one down for some reason or other--clouds, engine trouble before enough altitude, winds, or Oh wait, it really is dark For me, the most enjoyable memory in a jump plane (the freaking awesome helo ride is another story) is, when, I went up as an observer in the co-pilot seat in the Skyvan at Perris. After the last group went out, the pilot (Howie Somebodyorother) went in to a spiraling dive. It wasn't long (mere seconds) until we were even with the formation circling around it. We kept going and they were above us. We kept spiraling down until it was time to land. That was a pretty cool sight. I was back at the packing area before any of them landed.
  10. Ahh yes, Elsinore in the summer! It was such a fine balancing act there and then. Waiting for the winds to die down and getting up before it got too dark.. My first jump it was purt-near black by the time I walked back in. This was repeated again and again. And then came squares, and the wind tolerances went up.
  11. Before you pull it out, download a copy of the owner's manual from this here hazy place called the webernet or some such. That way when you have it out you will know what you are looking at. You know what it looked like 3 or 8 years ago when you put it in, and probably, the manual is available now. Oh, and if it turns out to be something you still can't figure out, you will save yourself a pretty penny, because of the labor of pulling and replacing it (so the repairman doesn't charge you for that bit of labor) Check in the back of the space and see if what you are smelling is the manual burning. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9

  14. When you say "classic" do you mean 550 cord with the guts pulled out? Or 5/8" binding tape (which was easier on the hands)? I ordered one of the first Racers in So.Cal. and almost immediately converted it to leg strap. I just begged some scraps of parapack, took it home and converted it(velcro was widely available). A little PVC pipe to take the place of the "pud", a longer bridle and good to go. Never had a problem with the mod. Maybe a little ignorance is bliss? lisa lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9
  15. I've been waiting all week to post this. It may be the end of the world as we know it, but, 21 May, 2011 is the 33rd anniversary of my first jump ('78). It was out of a DC3 in Elsinore. It was also my first airplane ride! I had quite a few takeoffs before any landings. I made 6 s/l jumps. My first FF was a hard pull (how many of us thought that, and how many really did have a hard pull at that point?) Things went well until my 11th jump when I had my first mal, but that story belongs in another thread on another day. lisa p.s. anyone remember the coolness you felt when you could walk around with the rented ripcord? Or when you could proudly walk around with your pull-up cord firmly attached to a belt loop? lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9
