Just my two cents.. if we remove religion from this, what we get is a group of people / cultural entity who burnt down an embassy and threatened violence because they don't like what the Danish newspapers published... I have to say i have issues with people using religion as an excuse and reason to commit violence, and i have issues with people who think that everyone have to live by their rules and values. Just my two cents here.. One thing i did in the wind tunnel was to fly with both arms back like i waas trying to reach pilot chutes at both sides of the container. You really have to bring your heels in to stay stop yourself smacking into the wall of the tunel, but i can do turns and slideslips just fine. still able to control my fall rate, but that's in the tunnel, ended doing a 360 turn in the bottom, foreward left of the tunnel then moving in a straight line to the top, rear right for another turn. Just in case i break both arms on exit my instructor said, i'll be able to fly with only my legs :) Eugene... "In the beginning the Universe was created. Got 20 min in the tunnel and finished AFF in 3 days. 5 AFF jumps on day one. It can be done, but do it at a pace you're comfortable with, there's a lot to take in. Just remember you have the rest of your life to skydive, so what's the rush? Be safe, ask questions, buy beer, and have fun! Eugene . "In the beginning the Universe was created. And if you spit and it comes back at you, you know you're flying into wind. Came up in a discussion i had about being in a bad spot and not seeing any references for wind direction. Wow! I'm not alone! It usually takes a while to explain where i'm from, My passoprt is from malaysia, and i lived there until i was 16, but i was born in Singapore. During that time i studied and have my entire social life in singapore, where i was a permernent resident frim birth until i was eighteen. Went to boarding school in Shropshire, UK when i was 16, during which my parents moved to to Singapore, and i live in my own place in the UK ever since. Hope i learrned something from this, i still don't know what to answer to the question! Eugene Where I'm Born: Singapore Where I am: the UK Where i've spent most time: Malaysia by a technicality . Fair enough, would love to have a good chat with you over a couple of beer sometime

I'm not trying to argue for the death sentence, just pointing out that gun control plus a strong, some say draconian law plus cultural views on guns and strict policing resulted in a practically zero gun crime rate in this case. Would be intersting to get the opinion of a British firearms officer about arming the British police, i've been livng in the UK for the last six years. Eugene "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
-
And yet countries with strong gun laws still have violent criminals as well. Singapore has a strong gun law: use a firearm in a crime and it's a mandatory death sentence. I can't remember the last time there was a shooting, and there's no repeat offenders. A bit of background: All police officers are armed, but ownership of guns are strictly regulated since 1823, The entire male population over the age of 18 have served in the military, and a gurrellia war was fought there (Malaya) in the 1950s for 12 years when still under British rule. Eugene "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
-
Funny enough, 1st degree murder is a capital crime in singapore, mandatory death sentence. 2nd degree is life imprisonment. Eugene edited to add: actually, there's nothing funny about it. Does cut down on repeat offenders though. . "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

I was referring to your comment about the policing and border control in singapore. Eugene "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

I'll be the first to admit that i have some issues with the way the goverment is run, at least you guys didn't have to live with it. As far as i know, the laws were put into effect during the Malayan emergency in 1948-1960 where a guerrilla war was fought between communist insurgents fighting against the british. A war with indonesia, with the indonesians dropped paratroopers to form guerrilla groups just north of singapore when singapore was part of the Federation of Malaysia, didn't help. Historically, there has been a need for the laws, they just didn't get around to changing it. Eugene edited to add: The laws i'm talking about here are the border control and policing laws in singapore. . "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

First off, i grew up in singapore, and i agree with you (rehmwa) that they don't have much of a drug problem. The goverment does a lot to re-habilitate people who suffer problems with drug addiction. Walk into a drug re-habiliation centre and you get the treatment you need. But once you get arrested and convicted as a drug peddler, and that's the term used there, is a whole different matter. For heroin, the cut off point is 15 grams. Caught with that or more and it's a mandatory death penalty. The limit is different for other drugs. I don't see why a foreign national should be treated any different considering that in 1998, a new provision was made in the law to treat consumption of drugs outside Singapore by a citizen or permanent resident as if the offence took place in Singapore. I'm not trying to argue that death penalty is moral, but it's effectiveness in reducing crime is apparent in singapore. There's also a mandatory death penalty for people convicted for using firearms in a crime in singapore, and there is no gun crime in singapore to speak of. I guess law enforcement is a lot more effective in what is a very tightly controlled state where everyone is issued ID cards, all entry points tightly policed and not a lot of space to hide, but it's effictiveness is proven Eugene "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

Well, i was taught never to double stow all locking stows. If the bungee is loose, i pass the bands through itself another time when putting the bands onto the d-bag, shortening the bands where it goes round the lines. I've been living on the opporsite side of the world from my parents since i was 16... Went to boarding school in the UK then stayed on for my degree. (they are in singapore, i'm 22 and still in the UK) I usually see them once a year, go home for a month over summer usually. Don't know about you but what annoy's me most of the time is that i'm treated like a small child with no say whatsoever. Might be a cuitural thing, i don't know. Anyway, what i mean't to say, is it happens to me too, i think it might be sometning to do with having someone around who can and do make decisions for me... It could be just me though. Well, Luci must be doing something right then.. She did my FS1 qualification dive, a 16 point 4-way.. Could have done better if she didn't get a brain lock. Well, as long as you have the sight lined up right it isn't much of an issue. If you mean the compound shooters with magnifying sight, mechanical release and funny glasses with lenses in it... That's just cheating. E "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

?? Never had a problem with the tube-scarves... I tuck the bottom edge under my jumpsuit collar though. Am using a elasticated skull cap for wearing under cycling helmets. Kept my ears from falling off when jumping during the English winter. Edited to add: Am jumping with an open face helmet for a while, mostly FS. E "In the beginning the Universe was created.
