Our Command Master Chief (CSM, but for the Navy) changed the wording around to reflect the Navy and send it to everybody on the command. He CC'd the senior officers too _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

The author is a good storyteller. . . but he believes that symbology is legitimate enough to require a major at Harvard. I would describe his works as: "Goonies" for the conspiracy-loving adult. I couldn't finish the first few chapters from a borrowed copy of "angels and demons". _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I think you only see it if you get "staged" while waiting to go to/from some of the camps in Kuwait. Now that I think of it, I doubt anyone from the 'stan would ever glimpse it. Welcome back from the Betty Ford Clinic on crack

It's the tower at Kuwait International Airport. I only saw it twice. . .stopover on my way to Iraq and the stopover on my way out. I had always thought that everyone from both OIF and OEF end up there first before deployment/redeployment. It was a beautiful sight seeing it again. It's stuck right in the middle of a huge dirt area at the airport. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Nope. Puerto rico is an unincorportated territory. Ohio was incorporated. Different constitutional rules apply _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Actually 1953 was the date George Bender sent a bill up that would make Ohio a state retroactively for 1803. But it wasn't needed: 2 Stat. 173, again, stated that "[the State of Ohio], when formed, shall be admitted into the Union upon the same footing with the original states in all regards whatever"-- in plain English: 'once the State government has been formed, the State is considered admitted to the Union'... the question, then, is: 'When was Ohio's government "formed"?' read 2 Stat. 201, where it is emphatically declared that "the said State has become one of the United States of America"- implying that, at the time of this Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Jefferson (19 February 1803), Ohio was already a constituent State of the Union... as of when?-- once "the people... did... form for themselves a constitution and State government in pursuance of" 2 Stat. 173: in other words, 29 November 1802- the date the constitutional convention in Chillicothe formally adopted Ohio's State Constitution. Indeed, I have quite a few reference works on American History from just before and after the Turn of the Last Century which list that date as that of Ohio's Admission (which suggests to me that at least some historians, active long before the controversy of the early 1950s erupted, read the same statutes I did and in pretty much the same way!). http://www.thegreenpapers.com/slg/explanation-ohio-statehood.phtml This seems to cover Ohio's questionable statehood well. I would suggest checking out the actual statutes themselves if this example isn't legitimate enough for you. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Oops, I saw that post now. It is definitely too expensive to deploy a battle group (carrier and her escorts) to protect the lanes. I would have to agree now that UAV's would make it cheaper, but logistical nightmare. They definitely would have to be launched from a warship. That would mean a whole team of UAV guys to keep them at alert status, comms with the pilots who would more than likely be somewhere else and a hell of a lot of coordination between units and armed services. It would be a practice in communication. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I find it interesting that the guy who does Crab's voice and others (clancy brown) was that huge Kurgan guy on the Highlander. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Where would the UAV's take off from? There is a huge amount of sea lane and ocean out there that would require many hours of flight time. Those things tend to crash also. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I don't see why he needed to. The engagements happened according to peacetime ROE's. What exactly did he change? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Years. There may be changes according to what's going on at certain periods. These are CO's Standing Orders, Pre planned Responses, Rules of Engagements, Use of Force, ect. In this situation, Obama's orders was redundant as the use of Deadly Force is authorised by their actions. He can order the Captain not to do something, but the CO as a Commander At Sea has been granted from the very beginning of his tour, the ability to order the use of Deadly force to protect the interests of the US. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I recommend Jergen's lotion. Doesn't chaffe. What really should have happened in this renting dispute is you rent a movie you like also. There should have been two movies to see this night. Compromise should start at the planning stage; not in hindsight during the argument stage. She wants her Meryl Streep, you deserve your Southpark. If she balks at your choice of movie, remind her that her movies are really Lifetime tv shows that got to the bigtime because the quality control team was smoking hashish, and you deserve some sort of accolades for bravely watching it with you without chewing your foot off. This is both of your fault. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Yup, the CS rate is still closed. You see a lot of old second class and third class CS's. In my experience though, if someone took you up for being late, he's been waiting for you to make a mistake for a while and finally got you. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I have shown you at least five different abstracts for support. I have shown you links that make good arguments about social impact, greater addiction rates, youth perception, apparent legitimacy that legalization will bring and health decline and increased crime rates. All of them smaller arguments that are part of my central argument against legalization. But, you haven't supported your argument that legalization works. It offers evidence that their relaxing of laws didn't work. This is my principle argument. All those countries are against trafficking. They are not legalizing drugs; possession may not get you into any trouble, but trafficking is dealt with seriously. Lets see some support here. Because, I am finding articles that say this is wrong. http://www.higheredcenter.org/services/assistance/faq/are-there-fewer-alcohol-related-problems-countries-where-youth-are-allowed-d http://www.ncjrs.org/html/ojjdp/compendium/2001/9902NCPC_PIRE.pdf http://student-health-issues.suite101.com/article.cfm/student_substance_abuse ***Our current state of knowledge seems to indicate that the best way to prevent drug and alcohol abuse is through education (with facts, not the bogus propaganda that governments and non-government entities, e.g. Partnership For a Drug Free America, currently, and in relatively recent history, provide in the US) I agree. And, a lot of gov studies show this also. I've given you the NIDA site to check out. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Even though the "how stuff works" can't really be good for argument, the source it quotes I believe, is legitimate. Your link takes in account of both deaths per user and deaths per abuser. It will always put alcohol first. But I believe that it is too simple to use. the Lancelet report takes three different areas in account: Physical harm the drug does to the body, Dependence and potential for abuse, and ill effects on society. Your link only takes in the account of death. My argument is not what kills the most. We both already know Alcohol does. My argument is the increase availability of the hard drugs will cause much larger increase of abuse and social impact than is present. Yes I have. A lot of the support I posted uses both Netherlands and Switzerland. Netherlands is closing down their coffee shops more and more and switzerland : Over the same period in 1993 and 1994, two people’s initiatives were presented with opposite objectives. The first initiative called for a strict, abstinence-oriented drug policy (“Youth Without Drugs”),([12]) and the second proposed the legalization of drug use (“DroLeg”).([13]) The federal government and Parliament found both initiatives too extreme and recommended their rejection. On September 28, 1997, Swiss voters rejected the initiative “Youth Without Drugs” with a majority of over 70%. On November 29, 1998, Swiss voters rejected the “DroLeg” initiative with a majority of over 74%. By rejecting both initiatives, the Swiss population showed its massive support for the Confederation’s more measured approach to drug policy. Between the time that these popular initiatives were launched and subsequently voted down, some major events influenced the evolution of Swiss drug policy. In 1994, the violence occurring on the “open drug scenes,” from Letten to Zurich, made headlines in the international media. Certain government parties (Socialist, Christian Democrat and Radical) clamoured for decriminalization of drug use, increased access to heroin assisted treatment, stronger prevention measures and stiffer sentences for drug traffickers.([14]) The open drug scene in Zurich was shut down in 1995, resulting in new co-operation between the Federal Council, canton representatives and the city of Zurich. A joint task force, called the Drug Delegation, was established. This unusual co-operation made it possible to implement measures that would never have got off the ground under more traditional circumstances: the creation of prison spaces in Zurich for drug traffickers, the adoption of emergency federal measures allowing for more drug addicts to participate in heroin assisted treatment and the creation of centres for the treatment of hard core users.([15]) Today the “open drug scenes” are a thing of the past. From this site: http://www.parl.gc.ca/37/1/parlbus/commbus/senate/Com-e/ille-e/library-e/collin1-e.htm Switzerland may have a better drug program that than ours, but they did not legalize to get there. It always got voted down. In the past, their relaxations had led to problems. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

We seem to have similar experiences. It ended differently for us though. I claim the same amount of confidence on my argument also. I agree that alcohol is the largest problem now. It will more than likely still be the largest problem with legalization of drugs. It will more than likely assist in a greater drug problem with legalization. There was a study done in Great Britian and it indeed showed that alcohol was more dangerous than some drugs: http://health.howstuffworks.com/drug-ranking.htm But alcohol was not at the top. It was fifth. There are more links at the bottom of that page to click on. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Argumentum ad Populum- anything for legalization has a conflict of interest. Your argument is dependent on the Legalization debates, It is wildly unlikely that you will publish anything that suggests that Legalization is a bad idea. You know. . .most debate fallacies work well at the podium and abstract, but concrete life doesn't seem to like to follow those rules. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

"The current U.S. policy options on drug use are reviewed in the context of the history of drug policy in the United States." comparing options based on previous experience isn't a strawman. Nothing that didn't exist was built up to be knocked down. It was about the youths' increase, they were challenging, they aren't challenging adult uses. There was still an increase of usage. None. It doesn't matter. Almost all data that is used for today's debates on both sides come from before and during that period. Recent studies are about toxicity and danger levels that always show that they are still toxic or more toxic than previous. MJ is the only winner here because you have to be a heavy user for a period of time before it gets dangerous(to adults). If you haven't figured it out yet, the mid eighties to the early nineties were the peak in number of studies. That study was a part of a series for the argument against legalization. I posted different articles from different time periods. It shows that legalization isn't a new idea and has been dealt with countless times. Pretty much like your written in response Nope. Against legalization. Alchohol is the most common killer, but that's because it's more prolific. It takes many years to get dangerous side effects and requires an automobile to increase death rates though. Pound for pound, it is less dangerous than hard drugs. I believe legalization will dangerously level the playing field. It's my opinion. I believe that since they are using economic models and not taking in the account of the larger social and psychological factor, they are missing the fact that their arguments are only one slight facet of the overall cause and effect of legalization vs. prohibition. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

NORML have been criticized for thier mixing of research as you accuse the DEA for. Of course. They are original sources, programs, interviews and sessions. If you have to do hard research online, you usually find that looking for the actual studies are near impossible. You would have to have access to some of the professional journals or you have to pay for them. The ones you find for free were there because they were put online by website owners that used them for research. They are arguments against Legalization, but they have sources. But if you insist: These help with the evidence for the dangers of Drugs. http://www.drugabuse.gov/NIDA_Notes/NNVol11N3/MarijMemory.html http://www.drugabuse.gov/pdf/monographs/34.pdf These are abstracts against Legalization. http://www.ncjrs.gov/App/Publications/abstract.aspx?ID=127678 http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/abstract/123/6/461 http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/extract/330/5/361 http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/sci;249/4976/1513 http://www.questia.com/googleScholar.qst;jsessionid=JPmZMbPvl9Vvhz7ydBYL9q6bMxyFkpqL3nLwZ1cBpVl5l8rMx12k!111030713!1507451015?docId=5010967148 http://www.ncjrs.gov/App/Publications/abstract.aspx?ID=172367 http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/full/124/8/777-a To be fair, I looked for scholarly articles for legalization. I didn't get much there, except for maybe here: http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=13438457 Others are usually economists who look at only the supply/demand concept of drug legalization and usually don't consider the multifacet aspect of drug problems that trump their theories. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I want you to read these. The first generally talks about most of the issues brought by this thead. The others are support of the findings: http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/about-unodc/speeches/2007-12-06.html Legalization has led to increased drug addiction: http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/demand/speakout/06so.htm Drug violence is caused by those that are high, not by those commiting crimes to get overpriced drugs. http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/demand/speakout/07so.htm The DOJ also believes that the legalization of drugs will make the problems worse. http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/demand/speakout/08so.htm Europe's drug legalization experimentation didn't do to well either.
