"used to" - I would be pretty sure there are a few low key jumpers and like you said some well knowns that do on occasion suppliment the income by creative transportation techniques.

See that headline? $50mill Drug smuggling? I dont think there isnt an avenue they dont use. If it works most of the time, then Im sure its used...

I think cutaway was written on (semi) true accounts of stories only told by the ole timers around warm campfires.

Skydiver is found dead in middle of suburbia. Reserve deployed, minor injuries (inconsistant with a high speed impact death). A small arsonal of weaponry. Ohh and like 70lbs of uncut funfun powder. They also found a second rig stashed (accomplice) behind a hanger. They also find MANY other bags stuffed with *sniff sniff*. Good times.

Ohh yea well - One time, I rewired an entire airplane... it was in flight, at night, out on the wing, and it was raining. i had to shimmy out onto the wing with the soldering iron inbetween my teeth. The pilot light blew out so I had to relight off the jet. beat that.

Mine takes a shit all the time. Its the battery, there is an area of low battery charge where the IPOD will still run, but not low enough to shut off, where itll poop out. It never happens on a full charge. If you have one of the first 3 generations of IPOD get the battery replaced free (pending lawsuit approval -- which looks like it will happen). Woot. This unit will support all 3 standards: WRT55AG It can be had for $130 at best buy. If you can wait, you can find it online cheaper, or an equivilant unit from a competitor cheaper.

Simple answer - You DO NOT switch out the router, you add a wireless router. I have used and like Linksys but any should work. Most all wireless routers have ethernet ports, so you can also plug in several devices into the router. (Your computer would be hooked up with a wire, the laptops wireless). One thing to be aware of is that there are 3 different wireless standards, A/b/G. Make sure the router supports what ever the laptop wireless uses. If you or they dont know, its probably A/B. Just get an A/B router. Hope this wasnt to confusing. Derek

I have installed XM systems into several jets now. Little known fact - XM also broadcasts weather information in digital form that can be viewed on some aircraft MFD (multi function displays). I just did an Garmin install and got to toy with it a bit. Really cool, showed Nexrad, Metars, TFRs, Winds Storms, Lightening strikes, etc. You could also download weather info for your destination in textual or graphical form. Nifty-riffic. (ohh yea, add another couple wires itll pipe music out to your audio system too... wouldnt want to leave that out.) Who wouldnve known this would exsist a few years ago? Derek

Damn the weather is nice today.... ;) You know you wanna....

The blind spot in your car isnt over the dash. But like most cars around the passenger door area on the left and right. The point is that car dashes dont cause blind spots rather that cars have blind spots.
-
To clarify, you can LOOK out the windshield 100% of the time, its there and its clear. If your pilot is not looking outside well that sounds like a "your pilot" problem not an "otter" problem. I would give benefit of doubt to the pilot though. Im sure you just dont see him/her maintaining awareness - Im sure they are though.

The type of system you refer to is called a TCAS. Traffic collision and avoidance system. It can be added to an aircraft post production. I can pretty much tell you for a fact few if any skydiving aircraft will have this. They are very expensive systems. As for visibility. A good pilot will constantly be scanning for other aircraft. The "dash" being high, well look at every airplane, does create blind spots - just like in your car, but by maintaining situational awareness you minimize the change of collision. It is a nature of the beast. If this scares you I suggest maybe frisbee golf or maybe crossstiching. By the way, your pilot can see out the window 100% of the time. Sometimes there is nothing to see (ever fly through a cloud). Where do you get this 90% of the time? Maybe your pilot was flying with his eyes closed. *Thats sarcasism* Anyways, if you would like a TCAS in your Otter, give me a call, itll cost about $75-100k, Im sure the DZ will gladly put the plane down for the 3-4weeks itll take as long as you float the bill. Itll also need 2 new transponder systems, 2 new antennas and a fair deal of sheet metal work, that might be extra - Ill be happy to install it for you. Derek Derek
