They will raise your rates for non moving violations too. I was qouted a clean record price recently, and then when they pulled my records, several equipment violations were found that raised my premium $100/6m. I was driving an OLD BEAT up pick up, the lights kept going out or the muffler would fall of... you get the idea.

Thanks... ;) I had a beautiful blue one, but the seller dicked me over $500 so I walked. Im inspecting it tommorow, *MIGHT* be in my posession by this weekend.

men are stupid, women are crazy. its my hypothesis. im collecting evidence to form a theory. Care to contribute?

I hope she gets no points either. But if she consistantly gets busted speeding, well then she deserves points. HA - bet you all didnt see that coming. Really though, its rough being a young driver.

Why the hell are you sitting online arguing with me online on your bday. Come to S FL and Ill show you a proper bday blow out complete with sushi, boobs and shiny things.

I have both. I know, because I have them.... both. Many ppl who have one, often have the other apperanly. Its not entirely uncommen. Gurgle, now thats hot. But dont be jeolous of me, no one likes me anyways. Thanks for pointing me to the subtle clues. "andvent your angst".... I kinda think thats what Im doing here. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment This has some amazing insight in what happens when people blindly follow authority and its social reprocussions. Pretty interesting stuff.

So when the law said that black people had to sit in the back of the bus, it was ok because it was a law? just because its a law doesnt make it right. Yes I know this has nothing to do with speeding, but its the concept, the principle you need to see here. Just because someone said so, doesnt make it right.

Thanks for the input. Next time Ill stupid up my posts so itll be bonfire friendly. Come on really... I have ADHD and ADD. But I get my shiney thing/booby fix in real life. I come online because at 11pm because I want to talk to people, discuss, read, learn, argue, whatever. If you dont like the discussion, stay out. I have seen plenty of threads where you babble, and now you have to jump into this one because you feel it has some merit outside the discussion of tits?

See I was cool with all your responses until the last one. By the elderly ages... most of these guys and gals for this matter have long been past the stages of ego. I see just as many old men drivers as I do old lady drivers who really shouldnt be behind a wheel. Were not talking about drinking or speeding for that matter. I am talking about how I feel limits are imposed on me and on others that I see as unjust and not based on logic. My point of that analogy is to help conceptualize that just because someone says its illegal, doesnt make it wrong. It is illegal because they have the powers to write it in law books. Can you think of other examples where this has taken place?

If that little kid is on the interstate then.... Thats where I do 90% of my driving. In the cities, I drive according to the situation. Can you promise me that you will stop in time when you are doing the limit? Its relative, maybe you will, maybe you wont, but just because your speeding doesnt automatically mean you are no longer in control. Let me throw a little tangent here? Ever been to a dry county? So because you walked 10' into a new county, do you believe it is now automatically wrong to drink? Arbitrary rules. I choose not to live my life under the thumb. Your welcome to do as you wish, that is your right, just dont get in my way when Im passing you all.... But feel free to wave and laugh at me if you pass me sitting on the side of the street in front of Officer Joe Doughnut. And no he shouldnt get a ticket for being older, he should know his abilitys, adjust his speed, following distance, and driving habits accordingly. When he pulls out in front of a motorcycle/drives through a building/plows through an intersection....

Yea pretty much. Its a right I have, and I will excercise it. Like you never have broken a law. Let me ask you this: if were given a $1000 fine, and you could legally get it reduced to $50 by legally paying a layer $50. Would you pay the full amount because its the right thing to do? Would you "buy" out? There is no morality here, there are no values, just rules arbitrarily imposed on me. It is my right to speed, and I am being patriotic by excercising what I feel is my right. I am being extra patriotic when I pay the fines. I do it for America. Realisiticly, I want to see America have more stringent road construction standards to support higher speed interstates, better (manadtory) driver training, and adaptive speed limits (i.e. the speed limit lowers when its pouring, it raises when its night and no one is on the road, etc).

Who said anything about lying and cheating. I hired a lawyer. www.ticketclinic.com $90 and (in my case) they guaranteed no points, no school and adjudication withheld. How can they promise that? Well I suspect they have an agreement set up with the city. So that is neither lying, cheating or manipulating, that is excercising a lesser punishment available for those who chose not to roll over. So eat me.
-
Ill admit I was speeding, everytime I drive I speed. But I will not pay outrageous fines that I feel are unfair and unjust for driving in a manner I feel is safe and within my and my vehicles ability. That is what I am fighting. But maybe thats because I learned to drive in Germany.
-
I say you fight it, not only because its your right to fight it, but you should never roll over and just take it. Besides, you are also fighting for your (well your daughters) economic freedom. Tickets can quickly become a vain.

I agree, unsupervised is precarious at best, thats why I delegated to NWFlyers idea of supervised time, mall, whatever you work out. The bottom line that you have to remember, is that at that age, it is basically impossible to supervise kids 100% of the time, and if they want to do something they will.

Think of it this way, in a year she can start skydiving in Russia...

At 14 the control you have over a child is mostly superficial. If they want to do something behind your back, they will. Forcing them to do what you want will likely cause rebellions reactions, and as you have seen cause a strain in your relationship. None the less if they want to do it, they very well will do what they want, maybe even just to spite you. I think NWflyer has a good point. The issue between you and your daughter needs to be resolved (*comprimised*) between you and your daughter, she is no longer a child, she is a young adult now. She is or will be starting HS soon, reality comes fast and you need to be able to trust her, and she needs to trust and respect you. I also personally feel, by that age, the installation of selfrespect, selfconfidence and selfreliance is mostly done so to speak, if she is going to stick to her guns, respect herself, then she will. I have seen the results of children who have been overly sheltered, and it generally isnt pretty. The kids I have seen who did well entering into independent adulthood (i.e. leaving for college) had been living and had been treated as adults by there parents for many years. Times have changed, and so has parenting, I think working with your kids, respecting them and treating them like adults is the best way to get them to act like and become adults. Just my opinion.

Do you jump with an AAD? (turned on)
Derekbox replied to Mr17Hz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think you need to reevaluate the way you stated this. There have been many incidents that an AAD may have saved your ass on, but they would have not prevented the incident itself, just possibly prevented the outcome. Proper gear maintenece, training, awareness and proper emergency procedures, at the proper altitudes for the most part will prevent *most* of the incidents from ever escelating to the point of needing an AAD fire to save your ass. That said, if shit hits the fan, the AAD, your last line of defense may save your life. So I do think it has its well deserved place. I think that when you start skydiving, there is a lot going on, very fast, and as a new skydiver, an AAD is a very good investment, after a few years, a few hundred jumps, and loosing a few friends, then its time to evaluate if you should keep it or not. -
Lake Wales and Collegiate Nationals
Derekbox replied to katseyes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although it is a pretty callous thing to say, I think everyone has there right to speak there minds. That being said, there are a few pretty well document cases of the staff there being rather callous. Well I left Lake Wales, the state it was in, this kind of comment would be of little shock to me. -
Lake Wales and Collegiate Nationals
Derekbox replied to katseyes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lets not sugar coat this.... The staff "restructing" was Fayard (who bought out Betty Hills 1/2 of the dz) firing pretty much everyone. After that, they ran off pretty much everyone else who was still around, instructors, staff, residents, packers ohhh and customers (including myself). I walked, took my money and my business with me, off to Sebastian, best move ever, so for that, thanks Eric (*sic*). I hear they are dieing a slow miserable death. On the non drama, factual side, they still do not have the new hanger, it was supposed to go up a long time ago. I invite everyone who shows up at Lake Wales looking for the glory that used to be to, to hop onto Highway 60 East to Sebastian. As for collegiates, itll be interesting, Betty did a good job of managing events, but as far as I know, she isnt around much anymore. As much as skydiving is my family and my life, it is still a business, and it is my power as a customer to take my business elsewhere. Have no doubt Ill do my best to take others with me, and I did. blue ones Derek -
who or where was swooping invented?
Derekbox replied to agent_lead's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I think swooping was a gradual development that just now in recent times came into its own. Someone did not wake up one day and invent it, so much as over time, it was developed through the input of many and the sacrifice of many more. -
That is just a kick ass lil story. Congrats. ;) Im car shopping now... shit if I was half the closer you were Id be a much wealthier person... I think 97% of ppl spend way more than they need to most of the time. ;) 2004 GTO 6spd is what Im looking at.... *grrr* ;) Derek
