Visual for Swooping (Was - audible for swooping?)
Derekbox replied to Bolas's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Dont used polarized lenses.... -
That would be tough unless Aerodyne starts handing out free replacement canopies when you cutaway and loose yours. ;) I do have to say, very professional damage control though. D

I didnt blame Terry Pike, but the logistics of outsourcing would increase the risk of an issue arising and making it more difficult to resolve the issue wouldnt it? This is strait from Karl. I dont need to justify anything, Karl justified it just fine. What flawed logic do you derive from that? On another note, last time I placed an order in with Aerotech (directly to Terry), for a set of risers, he qouted me 2 weeks, I called 2 weeks later, nothing. I never cancelled the order because I was still willing to buy them and I wanted to see what would happen. But 2 years later, I still don't have risers. I have not heard anything about the quality of the product. It seems to me that he is likely just over loaded with work.

I agree with you Bigway, but it is our responsibility as informed consumers to take the information we are given and make our own decisions. We have to extract the good information and disregard the drama. He has the right to express his views. We have the right to hear them. We then should use our best judgement and move on from there. Mr Meyers seems like a very helpful and forward man who was trying to help resolve the issue. But it seems the issue was out of his hands. Here is my opinion, buy a Vector and PD canopies.
-
If the details are true, then he has EVERY SINGLE RIGHT to complain publicly. Since Mr Meyers conceded that the ball was dropped, it seems all the facts are true too. It doesnt matter what Aerodyne offered todo, the bottom line is 5 months is entirely way to long for this job, barring some very good reason. Even then. Also at what point was the loaner offered? After 2 months if the loaner was offered isnt that a little late? Regardless... I would be willing to bet the underlying issue here is not "Aerodyne" itself but Aerodyne outsourcing its US side labor to Terry Pike. We may be a family, but business is business. All businesses make mistakes too, but when the issue is brought to light, good customer service fixes the issues in a timely manner. That is hall mark of a *good* company - supporting there product. It should be noted too, that many of your experiences may also have been PRE Aerodyne departure, before everything was handed over to Mr Pike. I know per BB policy, calling anyone names is a nono - but if someone had my canopy for 5 months todo an 1 day job, idiot would be the nicest of the words I muttered. One more thing. I think everyone should check out the track record for RWS/UPT and PD for there customer service before deciding on buying any gear.

Avoid Lake Wales and Titusville. Lake Wales is pretty dead on a regular basis. Titusville has turned tandem factory. Many of there jumpers hit Sebastian now. Sebastian is an amazing place to go, but can be slow during the week. 1.5 Hr from Orlando. Deland is Deland, the vibe there has improved much lately. They jump pretty much as long as the weather is nice. 45m-1hr from Orlando. Zhills has a great vibe and always has something going on. 1.5hr from Orlando. All these DZ's are turning during the weekend, but it can be hit or miss during the week in summer (except Deland normally). Sebastian is my personal favorite between the view, the people and the vibe. If you are looking to unload the family, Daytona Beach is 20 minutes from Deland and there is plenty to do there. Tampa is close to Zhills, 30m or so, plenty to do there too. Not a lot near Sebastian besides the beaches. I have personal reasons for not jumping Lake Wales, but ask most people and they will tell you its slow and not a lot going on. At least thats what I hear. Titusville has some good people there, but management is trying to do the factory thing. Call before going to any of the DZ's. I would suggest Deland during the week and Sebastian during the weekend. Be sure to get some collateral and something in writing. -
You dont want to jump in Mexico, youll catch a bug and poop a lot. Sebastian is much better.

Im with J on this, we all have had much worse do down the hatch... who cares, it isnt going to hurt you. All the hype about food is that hype. Germs are good for us, keep the immune system busy. Think about all the crap that you have eaten and dont even know about, it didnt hurt you... I would worry more about the bacteria in my sushi than the hair in my steak...

I saw the twin star the other day, pretty snazy plane, deisel (Jet-A) too. But for 1/2 a mill you can buy a used twin turbo prop... To be rich. ;) They didnt destroy the starships, they are mothballed, there are some satellite pics of one of the boneyards where most of them are stationed. Good times non the less. The Piaggio Avanti has taken up in the spirit of the starship (Canard rear turbo prop pusher). Good times... D

What to do when Jump Pilot isn't licensed???
Derekbox replied to JUDYJ's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If its a true club, no tandems and the jumpers all know what is going on... then thats a different story. A student spraining an ankle on landing lies in the hands of the student and the instruction. Thats a different story. I based my argument on the assumption that the operator is taking up joy riders. Students are a huge grey area because there is really no way to comprehend what you are doing until you become an experience skydiver. If experienced jumpers go up on a plane, well they know the risks... that is a different stoy. -
What to do when Jump Pilot isn't licensed???
Derekbox replied to JUDYJ's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What happens if that plane were to crash - at no fault of the pilot mind you What if there is a tandem passenger on the plane or a student jumper on the plane? What happens then they sue the dropzone, the USPA, anyone and everyone they can? "The pilot was not qualified." Case over, we loose - WE ALL LOOSE. It doesnt matter what skill he has, what experience, Id imagine at this point, he is more than capable of doing what he is doing - but he wasnt legally qualified to do the job. As if the skydiving community does not have enough issues defending themselves against the powers that be, rouge dropzones operating with blatant disregard for the law stand to substancially hurt the sport as a whole. Its one thing when someone buys some weed, pulls low, jumps out of a 182 with your buddy flying... that is putting yourself in danger. When a pilot is breaking the rules, he is putting the lives of his passengers in danger, The passengers who voard the plane not believing that the person whose hands they put there lives in was qualified todo the job. What if an airline pilot were flying without a commercial license? A small airliner even, a commuter with say 20 passengers? How would you feel about that? What would you do if that plane crashed, and your parents/spouse/child died on that load err flight? We all have something to loose here... -
I was about 240-250 or so when I graduated AFF, I put about 100 jumps on a sillouette 230 before getting a sabre 2 - 210. Like its been mentioned, a young fit 240 is a much different than an out of shape 240. At that time I was a relatively fit, athletic 20yo. I loved the sabre 2, everything about it, but demo everything. Something to remember is that wing loading is relative, us heavier boys have a great advantage under canopy being able to fly larger canopies to get the same wingloading others need significantly smaller canopies to get obtain. That translates into effieceny. Im 275ish out the door now flying a 120 velocity, I wouldnt advise that for you. D

I would throw a USPA sticker on my new car... but I dont want anything that makes it uniquely identifiable on it while the police are chasing me... Muah
