Rantoul is a very expensive party. If you've been a couple years in a row, you've pretty much seen what there is to see. Sure, it's a great time, but it is NOT the safest place to jump. At this point, for me, I would rather meet my friends at a small low-key boogie or a skillz camp.

4; 10; 0 4 hours it took me to get to the dropzone Friday night! I couldn't believe it! It's usually no more than 1 1/2, but traffic was a BIOTCH! 10 jumps (I think). Mostly tandem and AFF video. Made a bunch of money though. Got one freefly in at the end of the day.

I'm not going this year either. And I miss the Hellfish. Somebody tell Bubba at the Hellfish tent I said "wasssssssssssssssssssssssssup!"

Iwan, I owe you a beer for all the information. I'm just a baby vidiot trying to figure all this junk out.

Do you have one? What brand? I'm looking at the Pelican models and trying to figure out what size to get. Not sure what that standard "vidiot" size is that I see everywhere. Hard to tell by looking at pictures on their website. Can anyone clue me in? http://www.pelican.com/cases/cases.html

Cool. All good information! I also have someone who was nice enough to offer their help to me this weekend out at the dz. He says he has a bunch of lenses I can check out. My camera is coming in tonight. I'm all excited now! Yay!
-
I got Julia Stiles too, but I've NEVER heard that. Also, Natalie Potman and Catherine Zeta Jones. I don't necessarily agree, but hey..... I'll take that any day!
-
No doubt. Actually... my packer went home for the weekend last weekend. So he gets to come back to this. Sorry John!
-
oh, that's something i didn't know. i didn't realize that the 35mm and digital cameras had exchangeable lenses. that's pretty sweet. now i'm actually more tempted to buy a lens too. thanks for the info!

Count me in! I mean, where else would I be?? And Addie... your boss called me... you're fired... you can't go to Greece anymore.
-
Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... have fun at Summerfest!!!! I would totally hook you up with a ride if I were cool enough to be there. I think that's my favorite boogie of the year. Enjoy!!

I totally agree with you there. Generally, there is only one packer that I use out at Orange. Not to say the others aren't worthy, but at least I have a fair guess at what I'm getting. He's usually consistent, and when he packs me a smack down, all I have to do is show him the video and he makes adjustments. It was the same up at Tecumseh.... one guy, who had me on every load without question. This isn't to say I will never buy another pack job. I'll need to flying video and stuff. But I just love the fact that I've got my own packing game back.

Yup. For the last, I dunno... 500 or so jumps.... I have packed maybe 20 or 30 times for myself. Damn near ridiculous. So, for the sake of math, let's call that 475 pack jobs at $6 each. That's $2850 I've spent in the last two years on pack jobs. It all started after a cutaway. I was gear-whoring for a month and didn't feel confident packing all the different rigs. Then I got busy working at the dz and didn't feel I had the time to pack if I wanted to continue to jump as much. Regardless of why, I am SOOOO glad I started packing for myself again. This last weekend I saved probably $90 on pack jobs. AND.... when you pack for yourself they are usually twice as nice. So, how much have YOU spent on pack jobs in the last while? Think of all that you could have done with that money. That's almost 150 more jumps I could have made!!!

Presents your canopy has brought you after landing

I paid a packer at a boogie once... went up on a load... and dumped out only to find a shiney silver object knotted up around one of my toggles. Apparently the packer had so kindly left me his packing tool. Thankfully, after a minute of futzing with it I managed to get it untied. -
It was first load Monday morning. They helped fill our plane. Was pretty cool having 18 or 19 people on load 1 so early on a Monday!! A bunch of us... maybe 10 or so... bombed out and just formed a big ol' belly round. It was the perfect morning jump. However, I wish I could have stuck around and done some freeflying with them.
-
Cool! They are really nice people. I got to make a jump with them on Monday. Glad it worked out for you!

The Teanage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt is definitely your selling point!!!

Mike, that is a beautiful tribute to some really wonderful people who touched the lives of many. Hold onto those smiles forever.

Ah, yes. Everyone's dream. A season without a fatality. Unfortunately, this is probably never going to happen. But everyone can do their part like you said... look out for others, make sure planes are safe, etc. Here's a thread I started last year with the same thing in mind: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1432880#1432880.
