  1. Of course, but the supposed celebration of the birth of Christ has been perverted in to a greed driven celebration of capitalism.
  2. I think it's a very accurate representation of what this day has become.
  3. So what? The parents already paid taxes on that money. Greed envy and jealousy is what all of this sounds like. My customers already paid taxes on the money they paid me to do construction on their house. I guess that shouldn't be taxed either? Your argument that the money has already been taxed doesn't fly. Income is taxed. Inheritance is an income. (taxed at a higher rate, which I don't necessarily agree with).
  4. Actually what he said was that his views on gay marriage are evolving, but that he still supports civil unions. Guess, once you're president your views aren't allowed to change.
  5. and an inheritance from a super rich parent is a nice big income... yep. And one that they didn't even have to work for.
  6. LOL, yeah, they're being torn down from "all over the place". Comedy. The only place religious symbols are being removed from are places where they shouldn't have been put in the first place. No one has an issue with religious symbols on private property. It's when you put your religious symbols in places that are funded by my atheist tax dollars that we have a problem. Schools, courthouses, federally insured and backed banks, etc.. Go ahead and build a shrine to on your own property with your own money. Try to do it on public property using the publics money, and you're going to have a fight on your hands.
  7. yeah, that's pretty screwed, but to put it on Obama is bullshit. There aren't any vocal republicans on the side of net neutrality either.
  8. because it's income for them. And furthermore, it's income they didn't even have to work for. The whole argument that the money has already been taxed is ludicrous. The money isn't what is taxed, it's the person that is earning the money.
  9. except that he did prove the point that atheists are discriminated against. More than any religious followers atheists generally have to keep their opinions to themselves if they don't want to be ostracized in the workforce.
  10. It - IS - rather difficult to be everywhere all at once. So you have to get your news from somewhere. Funny thing is - even if you WERE able to be everywhere at once - you would still be "misinformed to a certain extent." (Perception is reality and all that.) If you can use the internet you can find many news sources and pretty well inform yourself of what is actually going on. If you get your news from the boob tube, well, you're going to be kind of a boob.
  11. absolutely. They can refuse to sell to anyone not in their church, as far as I'm concerned. As far as I know hardware stores aren't supported and regulated by a branch of the federal government.
  12. so you're ASSuming things. Doesn't surprise me.
  13. What does this have to do with Christmas? This isn't about Christmas decorations.
  14. I would agree for any private businesses. Banks, however, are not private businesses for the most part.
  15. as long as they included atheist symbolism as well. It may be hard for you to believe, but non Christians are regularly discriminated against in this country.
  16. Regardless of partisanship, anyone that gets their news from the major networks is going to be misinformed to a certain extent. Major media in this country (especially fox, and to a lesser degree msnbc) is entertainment not reporting.
  17. but does it make you feel like you are going to be discriminated against? Like it would if the place was adorned with atheistic slogans? Not endorsing any religion by having no religiously symbolic statements is much different than endorsing one specific religion.
  18. Never should have been put on there in the first place.
  19. absolutely. I, as an atheist would be offended, and would have every reason to assume that I would be discriminated against based on my religious beliefs.
  20. It was already repealed this afternoon. Now the pres signs it and it goes in to effect in 60 days.
  21. so excited. Can't stop thinking about this. Just made my winter vacation that much more amazing.
  22. Just got so excited. 2 hour 45 minute drive for me. Woo Hooo. Think I might have to stop by on my way back from Whistler next week. Holy cow. Even better, one of the 'rents lives in Ferndale.
