  1. I had read the 328's door was the same size as the twin otter. Could not find numbers on what jump run speed would be, but I was thinking it might be difficult/immpossible to unload 30 on the same run when we have go arounds with 20 on a twin otter sometimes. Ohh well. It was a fun exercise...no jets.
  2. That's just maintence and reserves? Jeez. Ok. That's where the numbers blow out.
  3. Points one and two were why I was thinking something smaller like the 328, but I would guess even with that size jet the runway may still be an issue. Regarding maintence, I figured about $300/hr for maintence and engine reserves. Is that about right? EDIT: For apples to apples comparison I was running numbers based of the 328 which has a fuel burn rate of (best I can ascertain) 230 GPH total.
  4. The An-72 is nice...got to love the tailgate. Could the popularity be a function of the price? WFFC and the Peris DC9 is before my time, but if I heard correctly all of those tickets where in the $100 range. It seems there has never been an attempt to incorporate a jet into normal operations. Obviously, financial viability I'm sure would be the major consideration.
  5. Based on what I read regarding the costs, that's about $300K in work to get the Perris Jet flying again. Should i take that as another probably not going to be seeing jet loads anytime soon vote? As noted previously, I really don't know these numbers, but I did some rough back of the envelope math.... I came up with an operating cost of about $2,000 pre hour. At a DZ with the ability to sell 5,700 tickets per month at $30 a jet seems financially viable. Obviously, these numbers have been looked at for probably longer than I've been alive and by people with actual qualifications.... what am I missing here? Caveat: The initial capital investment I came up with was close to $1MM
  6. Where would said aircraft come from? I have limited understanding of these things (FAA, etc.), but I'm sure it's not just a matter of paying X to lease some jet and then flying it into a boogie.
  7. I've been looking at the Dornier 328 Jet this morning (god it's sexy) and thinking how awesome it would be as a jumpship. If I understand things correctly jets were a little more viable in the "golden years" of skydiving and the Peris Jet has not been in operation for quite some time. Ideas on what the future holds? What would it take for Peris to get their jet back in operation or for another DZ to take the plunge and purchase a jet? I don't really understand the finances, but I'm just wondering if jets are a thing of the past that us baby jumpers are unlikely to have the joy of jumping.
  8. I've found the trick is to let your "freak flag" fly high right out of the gate. If you have a filter in the begining its sets a precident that is hard to overturn. I managed to not get fired my first day...almost two years in and I can say ANYTHING at work and the responses simply range from laughs to raised eyebrows. Becareful if you have a reputation as having a filter and you start getting "loose". I would suggest having a good defense.
  9. Look like they are? I've seen the actual duct tape. LOL This thread is really making me want to head to a cessna DZ this weekend.
  10. As someone who was recently on student status the best I can tell you is that the fear is normal and at some point you will find yourself missing it a bit. Do you not have any door fear in the Caravan or the Otter? What scares you about the 182. Verbalize what your fears are and then you will be able to rationalize them. I know what scared me about the 182... I was new and I did not trust the plane (Nevermind the fact that I flew 152's and 172's). lol Best advice I've got (you've heard it before): Breath, smile, relax and have fun...at some point that saying will click for you and you will be off and running. It's an amazing feeling to have fear and then push past it and once you start making a lot of Caravan and Otter jumps you will find yourself missing that strut...I've been wanting to get back on the strut A LOT lately. What caused the repeats on Level 4?
  11. You sir are correct. The penalty tends to affect lower income couples while the benefit tends to be seen by those with higher incomes. You sir, are incorrect. Perhaps we disagree on what "higher income" means. Per the 1997 CBO figures, of the 49% of those that saw a penalty those with incomes under 20K say a penalty of 7.6% of AGI. Those with incomes over 100K saw a penalty of 1.4%. As you stated, the law favors income disparity between the spouses. I'm not going to bother looking for numbers to support this wild theory, but I'm willing to bet that there is more income disparity in "higher income" households. Seems to me that there would be a tax benefit if one took the traditional view of marriage where the little lady stayed at home and took care of the kids while the man of the house worked to support the family. ...or I could be completely off base, but I could really care less....I not married and getting pounded by the IRS like married and single folk alike. Great graph. Forced me to look a little deeper at the matter...thanks...I think. lol

  13. Marriage is a business. Existing businesses rarely welcome competition. Think about some of the benefits marriage confers: Survivor benefits. Lower insurance rates. Automatic Inheritenace rights. Preferential estate-tax treatment. Workplace health and pension coverage. Reduced income taxes.
  14. Out of curiosity how do you determine if someone needs the "in your face" approach or the "nice" approach. Personally, I don't respond (at least in a positive manner) to the in your face approach.
  15. I read recently that a statistically significant percentage( nearly 10% ) of young people under the age of 25 are reporting that they have never had a sexual encounter. I'm wondering if there is some correlation between this change in behavior over the last few years and the decrease in the number of bare breasts in the sport of skydive.... Things that make you go hmmmmm.
  16. I'm really jealous. I would love to make this boogie, but with a recent rig purchase (that I still owe money on) it's just not financially viable. Ahhhh...Next year. No idea on WizzAir, but I did spend a night in the Grandhotel in Prostejov. For the price the accomidations are quite nice....right around 60 pounds per nite.
  17. Maybe you are at the wrong campus. Yesterday on the ASU campus I was thanking god everytime a pair of those shorts walked by.
  18. Has it seriously been almost two years since this thread got a BUMP?
  19. BACK UP!! From the depths of 2009! Been on an Ink kick for a while and just got my first skydive related tattoo last night. I have only alloted so much canvas so for all I know it might be my first and only skydive tattoo. Curious to see others pics.
  20. Like any new girl has trouble making friends at the DZ. The problem is more like getting those "new friends" to slow down. True. I've never had problems making friends But I figure I could use a few new strategies. & I just really wanted to hear Shah's advice. First things first, are you a size 6 or under?
  21. Should be just over 90 in Tuscon tomorrow. Welcome to the desert. Sunday will be clear, sunny and 85 in Eloy. You plan on jumping this weekend?
