I believe the term used is "less-than lethal" and that term is used by the jack ass cops quick to taze the shit out of somebody for "non-compliance". I was hoping this thread was about banning cops from using these devices. Much better to be shot, I'm sure. Not at all. There can be, and often are, severe consequences if a police officer goes off half-cocked and shoots someone with a gun. All this "less-than lethal" and "non-lethal" talk has resulted in good knows how many instances of people being electrocuted for "offenses" like "not STFU when told too".

Should UAVs be used to kill Mexican Narco Terrorists?
ManagingPrime replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
I see your angle so I'll take a crack at this one: Humanity knows many divisions over gender, nationality, race, religion and class. Let's look at it. Gender: Probably the most divisive force, but not really applicable to this situation. Nationality: Hmmm. Americans live in a "democratic" society. I'm willing to bet if polled today or 15 years ago Americans would view mexico as much more "democratic" than pakistan. 1 strike against pakistan. Race: Both Mexicans and Pakistanis are "brown". Lets call this one a push too. Religion: Mexico tends to be a Christian country. Americans tend to associate themselves with Christianity most among the religions....Pakistan? Muslim. Another Strike against Pakistan. Class: I would wager that most Americans would view Mexicans as having higher socio-economic status than most people from pakistan. Another strike against Pakistan. That's three strikes against Pakistan. In my mind that means we can bomb the shit out of them for damn near any reason someone makes up and most Americans won’t give two shits. The issue you are alluding to, and the drug issue for that matter, might be cured if people would work towards fully understanding and appreciating "the other."....I'm not holding my breath. -

http://images.sodahead.com/polls/000881289/GHOSTRIDEWRONG_xlarge.jpeg It's called "Ghost Ride the Whip" or "Ghost Ridding the Whip" as popularized by a certain E40. Please don't ask how I know this.

Oh I'm sure they will find other taxes to up or create. Indeed. Out of state homeowners will benefit the most as they will not be subjected to the higher sales taxes, income taxes, etc. Retires will also see a benefit. Despite the claims from some that this will bankrupt some counties simple common sense dictates that shotfalls will be made up elsewhere...this is actually mandated in the proposal. It's renters, consumers and the working that will feel the additional pinch. Never really thought of ND as a retiree meca.

Possible Skydiving Reality Show
ManagingPrime replied to jjrainyday's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Been saying for a while now that a Real World/Road Rules format would sell well. "This is the true story... of seven strangers... picked to live in an Airplane...work together and have their lives taped... to find out what happens... when people stop being polite... and start getting real...The Real World from 13,000 feet!" Have the group travel around the US in a Casa and "bandit" jump into DZ's. Feed the cast members copious amounts of alcohol. Perpetuate the "You did not lose your girlfriend bro...you lost your turn" image....shit throw in a few spikey haired fist pumpers for the Jersey Shore crowed. The American consumer would eat it up. -
Landing without a rig or a wingsuit
ManagingPrime replied to Austintxflight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Still jump with a rig. If you don't have a perfect spot...bail. I think the real issue would be one of economics. The material used would have to be very nearly indestructable (for the purpose in mind) and relatively cheap. If a 100 ft by 100 ft by 30 ft vat of Polystyrene packaging material would do the trick I think there would be a lot of interest. -

No. Public school in a fun state where you can live by yourself, "get an education" (instead of being stifled by your parents), and maybe slap a brand name on yourself costs that much. In-state tuition and fees someplace like CU Boulder is about $11,000 a year. Other schools are similar but more likely to be surrounded by cornfields not mountains. Of course your degree still says "CU Boulder" when you get core classes out of the way first at Front Range Community college which runs only $105 per credit hour or about $3150 a year. Doing so doesn't even preclude graduating summa cum laude. 2 x 3,150 + 2 x $11000 = 28,300. Fees add a few hundred more to the community college tab so you might round to $30K. Living with house mates you can get by on well under $1000/month living by yourself, or $24K for 2 years. Divide by 4 years and you're looking at $13,500 a year for a "university" degree which you could pay for working summers and half-time during the school year if that was available. Or you could just finish at community college and spend under $3,500 a year. America is _NOT_ about making a stable society. It's about serving corporatist interests which are many and varied. For instance we exempt student loan debt from bankruptcy so the financial industry can write and profit on loans that otherwise would not make sense. More money chasing the same number of college slots does cause tuition to rise which hurts students; but they can't afford their own lobbyists so they don't count. We let professors teach just 9-15 hours a week versus 30 for high school teachers and give them teams of assistants for menial chores like grading papers. Obviously more professors means higher tuition which hurts students; but unlike professors students don't have unions looking after their interests. I have a great solution: Don't spend more money than you can afford to. When it comes to college that means attending schools that you and your parents can cover with assets or _realistically_ expect to pay back with earnings from your degree. Obviously, community college at $3500/year fits in with a lot more profession + family wealth combinations than private schools running $50K/year for tuition alone. Some places give job candidates credit for going to expensive schools. I don't because where peoples' parents could afford to send them (or how much debt they were willing to accept) has little to do with how well they'll do their job or even perform in the interview process. More expensive schools may even count as a negative because of the incentive to game the system to make more profits, like graduating more students that aren't capable enough to survive in the real world. My favorite professor got in trouble for failing too many students (who couldn't handle engineering, but did bring valuable out of state tuition payments to the college and department) and was no longer allowed to teach a core class. Her replacement didn't fail so many people and there was a significant increase in my company's reject rate interviewing graduates. +1

Private client group...nice. Just cross-collateralize the yacht! lol I'm aware that there is a need for capital among other things, but in this whole thead loans have not been discussed. It's a lot easier to bring 1M into a deal then it is to bring 5M in. I've only worked on one SBA deal in the past, but to my understanding it's not one of those loan programs where the lender would require you have enough assets to not even need the loan. In fact, if I read quidelines correctly I think that there a maximum income levels for some of the SBA programs.
