  2. As noted by a number of posters, their already are procedures in place to make sure that mistakes are not made in sending people away. However. sometimes mistakes are made. You use your example as a case where a mistake was made. How can anyone here evaluate if a mistake was indeed made and that procedures should be re-evaluated without case specifics? You could just be a nut job that's lucky to have not killed yourself or someone else and your are looking to grind your axe on dz.com. I'm personally way more concerned about the nut jobs that are bound to kill themselves or someone else who do not get the bowling speech. SIUBC
  3. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/wingman-gary-connery-stuntman-completes-844926 Includes post jump interview.
  4. Where do you jump again?
  5. I'd like to get Mike McGowan's signature, I have a brother-in-law by that name but he is not a skydiver. He is probably at Skydive Arizona, but I could be wrong. You are correct.
  6. Quote Those just don't look big enough to be lactating breasts on the mother...reply] I said the same thing. Those are not breasts that have been nursing a kid of 2-3 years or however old that kid is. I'm thinking photoshop.
  7. Don't think I would classify it as evil, but my favorite right before exit when there is an obviously tense tandem next to me on a load is: "Do you know what the difference between a Ferrari and an erection is?" (Usually just get a blank scared stare back) "Your tandem master doesn't have a Ferarri." (exit when the look of fear turns to confusion) Aside from that and the old (to the TM)..."One more and you get to jump by yourself, huh?" or when packing a tandem rig handing it off and saying "In theory it should work (with a smile).", I try to keep any talk of malfunctions, danger, etc. away from the tandems.
  8. Good call on the pic. While it was public domain, people do get funny sometimes. Also just a rookie...not TI/Rigger. PM Headed your way.
  9. It seems that it's a grey issue, but I am inclined to believe that it is very black and white. As someone who has experienced deep depression for long periods of time (largely in my teens) I understand how the desire to die can be stronger than the will to live and I view the ability to make the choice to die as one of our most basic freedoms. From that point, if you believe in freedom you can't be against someones right to commit suicide. One day, at one of my darkest moments, I adopted the view point of Albert Camus/Bill Hicks and realized that life is absolutely absurd and can be quite entertaining even at the lowest points..."just a ride" if you will. With that realization I immediately came out of my depression and have never experienced any depression remotely like it since. From my current perspective suicide seems simple minded in many instances, but it's at unalienable right in any case. It seems to me that the arguments against suicide have either a religious or societal component (or both). Furthermore, it seems to me that those individuals believe we do not hold title to our own lives..."it's not up to you, think about God, your family, society, etc.". Weak-sauce.
  10. That's because they put a hesitator loop on the main as well. If the closing loop snaps, the hesitator should keep the main in the container if the drogue isn't set. But, that's if the packers use them, I can see them breaking a bunch and packers just not replacing them. I've seen the test jump pictures. The drogue is out.... I don't know sqwat about tandems...I'm assuming the main container is staying closed because of a three-ring configuration or a second loop. I would like to better understand this. See attached picture. Edit to add: Could it be the attachment location? In regards to why someone would choose a rig over Sigma...I'm hearing price point.
  11. Thank you. I've been looking for this information for a while. Now. The million dollar question. Would you use it on a component, say line attachment tape, in a single parachute system?
  12. +1 Was thinking the same thing while reading this thread. In another 75 jumps will be on BJ.COM telling base jumpers to fuck themselves if they don't think he's ready to start BASE jumping. Starting young is such a blessing and a curse.
  13. My guess (if this contest has not already been judged) is that she will not come in last. The worlds just too PC for that, but pageants are a bit of a traditional thing, so I don't expect a win. I would love to be a fly on the wall to get the REAL candid reactions from some of the contestants when they lose to "her". ...I bet one of them cries.
  14. I've got 6 and I'll get more. I've noticed that tattoo's seem more prevalent on the west coast.
  15. I'm in a similar situation. A bag was taken from the DZ and it contained my logbook. I've since not bothered to obtain a new logbook. When I have the requisite time in the sport and jumps I will want my D-License at which point I'm going to need a logbook. I've also run into hassels when going to other dropzones where I'm not known. I only tell my friends in the sport that "i'm too cool" for this or that. I've just been lazy. Unless you are trying to get a rating or jump at an unknown DZ it's not all that important (IMHO). However, the first time you need it and don't have it, it's a serious PITA. If your asking on DZ.com and everyone is telling you to get one do it now instead of later... i'm still dreading re-creating a logbook.
  16. How does that not make him caucasian? I would consider both aryan and iberian to be subsets of caucasian. Agreed...for the most part. Who is to say he is of Iberian heritage? The "Hispanic or Latino" ethnicity can overlap many races. More often than not those that identify their ethnicity as Hispanic or Latino also identify their race as "white". It's all kind of moot. However, I do enjoy watching the race cards get played.
  17. Where is this building? How did you get on top?
  18. Great example. Odd it did not come up in previous discussions regarding sh/sp rigs out of aircraft. Edit to add: Any examples that did not involve an injury or fatality?
  19. From my understanding the FAA is not going to get involved unless there is an incident. Unless someone goes in it's just a matter of "prove it". Can anyone reference a case where a pilot lost their license because a non-tso'd rig was jumped?
  20. If you have the $ I would suggest Skydive Arizona for the following reasons: 1. Weather is damn near bulletproof this time of year. 2. Top notch instructors. 3. Tunnel time included in the training. 4. Enough loads going up to get all your jumps in. 5. Solid student gear. I've seen students move quickly through the school there and while at the end of the day they are "just another new A-license", they tend to have a pretty good grasp on the basics for a new licensee. The only major drawback I see is the price (after AFF jumps all jumps until graduation are coached)....but I guess you get what you pay for. Get your license in a week, a month, a year... I don't see much difference between the three. I took a month. My buddy who started with me took a year. I know people who took a week. As long as you do not feel rushed....go for it.
  21. If you are staying for more than a few nights you may want to look into beach rentals.
  22. Going to leave work and then fly some canopies for a little bit until my buddy gets out of work. Then we are headed to Venice. Concert tomorrow. Speedflying in Soboba for the first time Sunday...and hopefully a jump or two at elsinore if I have time....pretty pumped.
